Better than I thought!!!!!!I have been debating on getting this for some time now, but I finally broke down and spent the money on something that was well deserved. I thought I had the best canister vacuum out there. I vacuum everyday due to our large dog in the house, but I have to keep cleaning the filter or i'll lose suction. Before trying the vacuum out, I used my older canister vacuum which suctioned up a ton of hair and dust before using the new dyson. To my surprise, the dyson had a canister of dirt and dog hair and when I went back over the floor a second time the dyson had picked it all up the first time. The ball makes it so much easier and the animal model has some attachments that are needed for pets that the other models don't have. I absolutely love it and reccomend it to all!
Excellent vacuumThis is a lot of money for a vacuum. I thought I'd humor my wife by getting it even though I thought she was nuts. I have to say I'm impressed though. It does quite well on carpet and hard floors. The ball does make it more maneuverable than the averadge vacuum also. The bagless design makes emptying easy too. I you can afford to spend $599 on a vacuum, this is a good choice.

FrustratedI have to admit that I have never used a hand machine before, however I am familiar with sewing machines. I am a very patient person and spent hours on end trying to use it to do some basic hemming on the go. After days and days trying to adjust the tension, I have finally given up. This thing frustrated me to no end and has effectively scared me enough that I am extremely tentative about buying a new (non-portable) machine. The price clearly reflects its quality. I would rather buy a new shirt with my $30 than waste it on this useless piece of plastic.

a very good ironvery happy with the iron, big difference in ironing compare to a regular steam iron.
it only could use a bigger watertank.

A Different Beast!Apparently, I am one of the few remaining individuals who feel the need for freshly ironed clothing. I've always used steam irons, Rowenta most recently, with consistently disappointing results. Over the years, I've increased my use of spray starch to make up for the power I've believed should have originated in the iron. But no more!
After deciding I wasn't ready for a presser or a mangle for my clothing, and knowing I really didn't need to press that many tablecloths, I discovered a new genre: steam generating irons. And, after some significant research, I ordered this DeLonghi model.
It is truly a different beast than anything I've ever used! What steam production!!! The temperature of the iron sole plate is controlled independently from the quantity of steam desired. Tap water is actually recommended for use. The iron, while substantial in heft, is not heavy. And the old-fashioned looking cork handle is soft, smooth and cool to the touch.
But the bottom line is the job it does on my clothing and linen! While the ads say that this machine will cut your ironing time in half, I cannot say this is true.....mainly because I find myself taking the time to marvel over how each pass with the iron produces such a professional-looking surface! Really, the only thing that's been halved is my use of spray starch, which is an unforseen and welcome benefit!
Am I happy with my new "beast?" You bet! Would I buy another? No way....I suspect this well-designed machine is going to last me a long, long time. But can I recommend one for you? Without reservation!

Best Iron I have owned!I love steam generating irons but had a bad experience with my prior iron. I bought a Euro Pro steam generating iron and after about two years it stopped steaming. I thought it should have lasted a lot longer. I contacted HSN, the company I bought it from, and complained. They passed the buck to the manufacturer. When I finally got the manufacturer to respond they wanted me to pay to ship the iron to them and pay for repairs. The Euro Pro iron was a bad investment from the start: It needed distilled water and, after I had trouble with it,I learned that the iron had a history of problems that the manufacturer did not address.
The DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact PRO 300 Iron is a joy. It works beautifully and uses tap water. I researched the product and company and bought the iron because of the warranty and features. So far so good...

DisappointedTheir claim is that the Dyson doesn't lose suction with use. If kept in top condition, clean and emptied then it might not lose suction. But if you allow the canister to fill up or the filter to get dirty then it definitely looses suction.
The beater brushes were never really effective. I have thick plush carpet, all one length, and I never got vacuum tracks with this vacuum. So I knew it wasn't really beating the carpet very effectively. They claim the height is auto adjusting but it doesn't seem to adjust at all and therefore is only effective on certain carpet heights.
The wand wore out early due to design errors. The hard part of the wand tube rubs against the flexible hose causing it to wear early and break. Each of the attachments broke early too.
I got about a years use out of this vacuum and threw it away. I bought a Bissell lift off upright to replace and it is already 100% better than the Dyson. In the first vacuuming with the Bissell I filled the dirt canister with dust and dog hair from my first floor alone, which shows the Dyson had been missing it all along. I now get vacuum tracks with the Bissell and my carpet looks 100% better

Good Machine - but some weaknessesWe bought the Dyson in Dec. of 2002, and it gets used for approximately 1 hour x twice a week on carpet.
In the vacuum cleaner market which, in our opinion, is dominated by poor product design, plastic parts that break easily, motors that burn out, belts that stretch and break, expensive bags that fill up virtually instantly, and a very short useful life, our Dyson has acquitted itself rather well.
Many of the other favorable comments apply and will not be repeated here.
We would add that Dyson has good telephone customer service as well as an on-line diagnostic guide.
We note the following negatives:
- The "off the floor" hose suction is not as strong and is much more awkward than with a "tank type - non upright" cleaner. If you are doing mostly off the floor cleaning, probably no upright is recommended.
- While the parts that you can access are easy to remove for cleaning and "unclogging", there are some critical non user serviceable parts on the Dyson. Even the drive belt and hepa filters are supposed to be changed by a service center.
- There are very few designated service centers capable of fixing the Dyson. So keep the box in case you have to ship the machine back to the company and hope you never need to use it. I would guess that with parts and labor, a major repair could easily be between a quarter and half the price of a new machine.
- The hepa filter, which is supposed to last the lifetime of the machine, doesn't. But notwithstanding instructions, it can be removed and replaced by the user (special replacement filter must be purchased from the company or from a dealer). We found it necessary to replace the filter (ourselves) when the machine constantly cut off due to overheating.
- While it is NOT in the instructions, customer service will tell you that vacuuming up powder (plaster, carpet cleaner, carpet deodorant) will clog the hepa filter and eventually destroy the machine. If you plan to do this kind of work, get something with a disposable bag.
- Periodically, the regular filter and basket need to be washed. Not a big deal but it needs to be done.
- Periodically, the tank needs to be thoroughly washed by running water through it and letting it dry.
Notwithstanding the above, this is probably a better and more reliable machine than anything else available (which, as noted, says something about vacuum cleaners in general), so with reservations, we recommend it.
