Cool look factor aside, this wok does not cook wellI bought this wok to match my Le Crueset dutch ovens and casseroles. I can say from experience, do not buy this wok. I'm amazed such a fine company as Le Crueset would market this item. Save yourself a lot of money and buy a Joyce Chen or some other brand carbon steel wok for a 5th the cost. Cast iron is a wonderful metal to cook with in the oven and for select projects on the stove-top, but not for stir fry and not at this price.

Unfortunately, this wok is 100% cast iron just like the pans my dad took camping to fry fish. There isn't a speck of porcelain on it and the porcelain coating is what's supposed to make Le Creuset stuff so good. Uncoated cast iron is hard to clean and it's just a matter of time before it rusts so back it goes to Amazon.
I've asked them to fix the incorrect description but so far, they have not bothered to do so.

I LOVE THIS WOK!!!!I've had this wok for 2 years. It's GREAT! If you know how or learn how to take care of cast iron it's the best. I use this to stir fry, deep fry and saute in and couldn't be happier. The secret to cast iron is to make sure you season it as instructed. When done using each time wash, put on stovetop burner, turn on HIGH until all the water evaporates, place a dash of vegetable oil in it, TURN OFF THE BURNER, swish oil around entire inside with paper towel. Let cool and put away. If you do this EACH time the cast iron is used it will be like Teflon. Try it.

so worth the moneyafter hemming and hawing for months about taking the plunge into the over $150 category of Le Creuset the combo of a sale, (...)convinced me to buy this piece. So far I have been very happy. A few caveats that other shoppers might wish to consider - the frying pan is rather shallow and using it as a lid is somewhat awkward. Fortunately for me, the lid from the post that this one replaced fits quite nicely. I have not attempted to use the frying pan to prepare anything with a large amount of liquid and it has worked great for saute and frying purposes. The pot itself is fabulous, the perfect size for just about anything.
When You Care Enough To Buy The Very Best - Le Creuset!Le Creuset makes the best cast-iron cookware, and cast-iron cookware is the absolute best for heat distribution and retention. I don't believe that one can do better than Le Creuset for food preparation. It may be a relatively expensive purchase initially, but Le Creuset is a wise long-term investment. I have had one piece, the 7 quart French Oven, for over 10 years and it still looks new. My latest Le Creuset purchase is the 3-Quart Multi-Pan with 9-1/2-Inch Nonstick Omelet (pan) Cover. I absolutely love it and plan to give one to my sister, who is a gourmet cook, for a Christmas present.
I love the heft of the 3 quart pot. It has a very stable feel, especially when making sauces and puddings that require constant stirring. It's also great for sauteing onion and other vegetables, melting butter, heating food, etc. When you have your food on simmer, your food simmers, without hot spots that cause food to burn in places. And the omlete pan is a dream to work with. Makes a perfect omlette with no sticking.
All Le Creuset cookware can be used in the oven or under the broiler. The enamel finish is attractive enough to bring food directly from the stove, or oven, to the table. And it washes up easily. I have tried many brands of cookware over the years, but Le Creuset is the best, without a doubt!

The best of both worldsThe editorial review gives a great description of the product, but it cannot emphasize how great Le Creuset cookware really is. I love the fact that the cover is also a small frypan. I get more for my money and don't have to hunt for another pan to melt the butter that I add to the sauce; or fry a piece of bacon to add to the soup. In Le Creuset you can simmer without burning, allow puddings to thicken without scorching, and even fry onions golden brown ... not charcoal black. I used to think it was me ... bad cook. I now know I just had inferior cookware. When you get the right tools you will get the right results. Worth the money.

analytical cook loves this cookwarethis cookware is awesome if you can deal with the weight. but for those who trust opinions like politicans, let me tell you specifically why. 1. the cast iron allows for even heating, that means it browns ground turkey or beef across the pan not just in the middle and in fact, browns it rathering than greying it so your stew soup sauce will taste better 2. nothing sticks, even when i thought things were stcking as you add other ingredients, the browned whatever comes off in the soup, stew, etc adding great flavor 3. there is no teflon and it is only a matter of time until they discover that that stuff flaking off into food is bad news and i'm sure will be proven to cause some major ailment 4. it moves from stovetop to oven no problem which if you want to really learn to cook you need to be able to do 5. it looks really cool. 6. based on what i have seen it lasts forever-really forever-amorize the cost and if youve got the coin it is a good long term deal. now for the bad part, it weights as much as a manhole cover. forget one handing it to move contents into serving bowl or tupperware as leftovers. get a really big spoon.
Top-notch cookware, unlike any other!I received the 6-piece cookware for Christmas and I have to say that this is one of the best gifts I've EVER received! After the first weekend, I had already used all the pieces at least once, even twice. The 6pc set includes the Dutch oven with lid (the one I use the most), 10-inch skillet, the 8-inch nonstick omelet pan which serves as a lid for the 2-qt saucepan and the 8x12in square roasting/baking pan. Plus, there was a bonus 4 1/2 qt soup pot - fabulous deal! I've noticed such a difference when cooking compared to my All-Clad Ltd set. Like the other reviewer, I prefer Le Creuset. Cooking with Le Creuset really brings out the flavors of the food and the cleaning is SOOOOO much easier than say with All-Clad! I'm not a chef by any means, but the food I've cooked has turned out superb! I've made coq au vin, chicken marsala, loster bisque, chicken mango curry, tarte tatin, mango cobbler and the list goes on! Another big difference with Le Creuset and other cookware is the heat distribution. On most cookware, it's easy to burn the food once the pan is heated. But with Le Creuset, it's really hard to burn your food or mess it up in any way. The way it retains the heat is amazing. This set is not only functional but beautiful as well. You can transport this baby from stovetop to tabletop for a lovely dinner presentation! Le Creuset may be on the expensive side, but believe me you won't be buying any other cookware after using this and it's worth every dollar! It is also heavier than the average cookware, but you get used to the weight after a while. All in all, I absolutely love my Le Creuset set and I'm more than happy with everything about it!
I'm in Love With My PotsMy husband gave me a 9-piece set for Mother's Day last year, and I could not love these pots and pans more! The stews, roasts and braises I have made are delicious! I cook many curries (we love Indian) and the enamel holds up beautifully despite the turmeric. And, the grill pan does a great job making crispy bacon! I have the oval Dutch Oven, and am not sure what to do with it besides making a roast chicken with 40 cloves of garlic. But, I am sure I will come up with something! My set is red, which really brightens up my beige and black kitchen.

Get a grip!Like much of the Le Creuset line, these dishwasher safe round silicone hot pads have multiple uses. Covered with ridges they make excellent trivets for resting hot pots and pans on while allowing for air flow. The ridges also make these perfect to set eggs on so they don't roll off the counter. They are firm enough to use as a fan when a little air movement would come in handy. Combined with the ridges, they are flexible enough for opening jars and bending/gripping around medium to large handles.
The only drawback is that they don't work well with smaller sized handles. This makes using these pads with other Le Creuset product like the pate terrine or the au gratins pretty much useless when it comes to grabbing and moving them.

I start by first cooking the onions in it on the stove until they're carmelized, then follow by adding red wine, removing the liquid, browning the beef, throwing everything back into the pot along with a bit of garlic, and a couple of bay leaves, etc. Then into the over at 400 degrees F for 3 hours. About an hour before it's finished, I drop in a package of peeled baby carrots. You can add potatoes too if you want but, if you're watching your carbohydrates, it's fine to leave them out. If you want potatoes, you should get the next larger size (5 qt) as this size can only hold the meat, carrots, and the cooking liquid.
When it's done, pull the hot pot out of the oven and onto one of the stove burners and it'll stay warm in the pot until you're ready for dinner!
When I think of pot roast, I think of this French oven!
