Daniel Boulud Cast Iron 5-Quart Oval RoasterI was looking for a roaster that was sized to receive an Oven Stuffer Roaster for purposes of making Salt Baked Chicken. I started out with the 3-quart size which was too small, but the 5-quart is just about 1 inch larger around than an Oven Stuffer Roaster which is just about ideal. I agree with previous reviewer that the height could be slightly higher, but it did barely clear "the bird". Nicely designed cooking vessel for price charged. Seems ideal for chicken/fowl. Interior dimensions are 11" long x 8 1/2" wide x 4 1/2" high.
Well done enameled roasterI had looked at the le Creuset pots and found them ludicrously expensive (overpriced in my view). A cast iron, enameled pan is not made of unusually expensive materials and does not seem likely to require an unusual amount of processing, so it probably should be fairly inexpensive.
The Boulud roaster, which I believe I read elsewhere is made by Sabatier, is an excellent enameled iron pot, with simple but functional handles and lid. I got it for poaching chickens, and it is just about the right size for that, though if I had my way, I would like one of the same cross-section but with higher sides so that it would hold a roaster or hen comfortably. The oval shape is nice for reducing the amount of liquid necessary for poaching, which requires less reduction at the finish.
The interior is enameled as well, which was not clear in the description.

Beautiful and fits in my toaster ovenI mostly use this small-ish dish to serve candies or dip, but I also once put some chicken tenderloins in it to thaw, and was delighted to find that the dish fit into my toaster oven. Thus, I did not have to dirty another dish or turn on my big regular oven.
Once I made that discovery, I have been happily making single-serving dishes for myself to bake in my little toaster oven. Because it's not a metal pan (and so pretty,) I then eat right out of it. Lovely and easy, and it minimalizes cleanup.
I highly recommend for singles or people who often eat by themselves. However, it is such a nice dip-dish, that I would be giving it the full 5 stars even if I didn't use it in the toaster.

Look closelyThese knives may have "ergonomic" handles, but they look really strange in a place setting. I do not like the handles, and I think they are too big compared with the blade. The blade is serrated. It works like most other serrated steak knives. Another reviewer mentioned that the fat handles do not fit easily into the drawer, and this is true. The blades will get spots if put into the dishwasher. Not bad for the price, but not something that looks good on the dinner table.
Great Knives at a Great PriceI was happily surprised to discover that for once I got much more than I paid for. They cut the through thick and thin with ease and, as a side benefit, they are great at cutting rolls and baguettes. After I got my initial set, I returned and got 6 sets for Christmas presents (plus another for me). The handy wooden tray is an added bonus and is also of good quality.

Cheap, all-around. OK Starter Set.For 19.99 this is an "OK" starter set of knives. The blades are all serrated so you don't have to worry about sharpening them. They are EXTREMELY sharp. The set looks amazing out of the box. HOWEVER, after washing the knives only one time, the black handles are fading badly. The once pure black handles are now a faded, and "used" looking black. The blades on 4 of the larger knives are rusting BADLY. They look horrendous after only one wash in the dishwasher. It's obvious that the grade of Stainless Steel they are using is extremely poor. It's a shame because at a glance these look like fantastic knives. Heavy duty, thick blades, full tang, beautiful block, etc... I would save my $20 and go elsewhere. Unless you want to take a shot at hand washing and hand drying them every time you use them.
Sabatier is a SUPERSTARI bought this attractice cutlery set about 2 months ago. I am extremely pleased with the quality of this set. Use of the utensils has been made easy by their ergonomically correct handles, the high quaulity steel blades are sharp and ready for any project. I am very particular about my paring knives and the one included in this set is now my favorite one. Overall this is a great value for the money. The only con: they are not meant to be put in the diswasher. (I'm a little lazy) The steel blades are fine, but the handles tend to discolor a little. I love this set so much, I bought another to store for that day that I lose or damage a first piece. :-)

Too bad looks aren't everythingWhile this set of knives does look pretty cool (and for that reason alone, I've rated them as worthy of two stars, vs. none). They were not even remotely sharp upon arrival-I was able to run my finger across any one of the blades without having fear of injury. Right then I should've sent them back, but my failure to do so has understandably left me "stuck". Even so, my opinion would've been somewhat positive if they could be quickly sharpened by using the steele included, or else if they held an edge once sharpened, but that's not the case ... not by any stretch of optimistic imagination. Fortunately, they were obtained at half price during a Yahoo sale; if not for that, I'd be thoroughly disgusted.
Okay for priceGood price, but unfortunately have a couple of problems. First, the set I received is not that sharp. The company could have done a much better job sharpening them. Second, they will start rusting if washed in the dishwasher. Otherwise an inexpensive set of all metal knives.
Sharp but SlipperyI liked this set of knives, but the copper handles are sometimes hard to hold on to. The knives themselves are very sharp, including the top portion of the blade, if you're not careful you can cut yourself while chopping. Nice value for the price.

Nice box kidThe box is untreated pine, pleasant smelling, and rustic in finish It displays and stores the knives well. One Star.
The knives are apparently "made by French Mastercraftsmen." This might be what you expect from the name "Laguiole." The 'mastercraftmen' must have been very very drunk though. Instead of nice hardwood handles they put on tacky plastic ones. The rivets they used were slight ones of poor quality brass that matched the rest of brass fittings which they must have found in recycle bin. The high carbon steel blade they replaced with low grade quality blades with lots of branding all over them. We can only assume they looked good through glazed vision. The quality control person must have cut himself on the burrs and rough edges of the finished products and bled to death on the floor while production went on and on. Thousands of terrible low quality knives in wooden boxes. No Stars.
So, one star for the box which your fourth grade child could make in woodwork shop.
(The great danger with internet shopping is that you have to trust brand names. Don't trust this name - see an earlier review explaining what happened.)

Pleasant EnoughI Purchased a set simply because they came close in design to our everyday flatware. They come in a nice pine box which has no lid so they do take up space on a drawer or shelf. The knives themselves are very light weight. Our set (black and steel) was fine with no obvious flaws. The handles are lightweight plastic and the rivets are small so there is a question of how long they will hold up. They would have done better to use resin impregnated wood. The tang does go the length of the grip. These seem as sharp as any steak knives I have used and are quite comfortable in the hand and do afford good control when triming a steak or a chop close to the bone! I would say they are of the same level of quality that you might find at a Woolworths (of sainted memory!) or a K-Mart. Not something to buy if you are really looking to even come close to the traditional high quality of either Sabatier or Laguiole. That said I am planning on buying a second set to match the number of place settings of our everyday flatware.
Stylish steak knivesA grand surprise, these are much better looking and definitely better behaved than any I have bought over the years while paying much more. They are nicely balanced, cut well, and even look good as part of a place setting. The more slender shape, curved handle, and even the position of the Napoleonic bee come together in a nice design that is functional and a pleasure to use. (The little bee-shaped finger rest is a conversation starter too.) I've heard of another set by the same company with bone handles and a much higher price tag. These suit us just fine.

Don't buy these! These are described as stainless steel, but they rusted dramatically after being washed once. They are so badly stained at this point, that we don't even use them. The only useful part of this product is the wooden storage tray, if you have other knives that will fit.
For the money...I paid under $20 for these. They came in good condition and have stood up to a couple years of use. They're not amazing, but then I didn't pay all that much. I'm happy.
I am astonished!Perhaps I got the only good set?
I am completely taken aback by the other reviews. I have had my Sabatier Balance knives for over two years and use them at least twice a week, throwing them in the dishwasher each and every time. They are the only steak knives I own, and I have no thought of replacing them - they look nice on the table, feel good in the hand, and remain as sharp as I could ever reasonably wish. After reading the comments herein, I went down to scrutinize my set, and I did find one small spot of rust on one knife, but it was easily polished off. After two years, that doesn't seem so very bad to me.
