Soehnle Review tiny and weak
this thing is just a bit bigger than a cd, so there is not much room to do anything on it, you have to put a bowl or something on top of it to use it effectivley. Also, I did not find it very accurate, as I have a 1lb weight to test with. I found mine at least 10% off. Spend your money on something else more effective.

Soehnle Review Product is fairly unreliable
This product is small and fits well without taking up a lot of space. It is easy to use and set up. However, I do find it to be some what un reliable. On many occassions when it is turned on numbers will show up in the display then turn off. After restarting ~5 times the unit will then reset to 0 grams ready to use.

Soehnle Review Some additional information...
I bought this scale a little while ago, and overall I'm very happy with its performance. I have access to a high-tech lab scale, and a few times I've been able to compare the readings of the two - this little guy is quite reliable.

However, some of the information listed here isn't correct!

For starters, this scale doesn't use a CR 2430 battery as reported. Rather, it uses four 1.5V AA batteries, which are included. Second, you can set the display for either grams OR pounds/ounces - there's a little switch on the bottom of the instrument. And last, the scale's precision is 2 grams in the metric system and 0.1 ounces in the English. I wish this information was revealed to me prior to purchasing the scale, because although 2 grams is "good enough" for me, I would have preferred a more accurate scale with 1 gram or even 0.1 gram gradations.

Soehnle Review 2 stones on the kings head
A cup of all-purpose flour weighs 5oz. If I make a double batch of Toll House cookies then I need 4 1/2 cups of flour or (using a calculator here) 22.5 oz.
Now it would seem that with a digital scale this would be simple enough. Unfortunately, at 16 oz. it becomes a pound so what I would see on the readout is 1lb. 6.5 oz. Granted, this isn't advance physics, but in the rush of cooking I don't really enjoy doing math and, just to be safe, I DO use a calculator.
This may not be a problem with grams, but I don't speak metric so I couldn't say. No doubt this is more an issue with our incredibly archaic measurement system, but it's a shame that such a beautiful piece of kitchen equipment isn't easier to use.
Still, even with this flaw, I weigh everything and would never go without a digital scale.
Oh, and you can use it to roll coins. For example, a roll of quarters weighs precisely 8oz.

Soehnle Review So far, pretty good
I love how this scale looks - that's a large part of my decision to purchase it. I intend to keep it out all the time on my counter & wanted something really cool & modern. It seems very accurate but I did have 1 problem (& I hope it was just a fluke). I turned it on one day & got an odd "error" on the display. I turned it on & off again several times & it didn't clear. Then I removed & reinstalled the battery & that seemed to fix the problem. So I hope that won't happen again. Other than that, I really like this item so far.

Soehnle Review A great little scale.
Haven't used it much but, maybe 6 times, but it works great. And I like the looks so much that I'm leaving it on the kitchen counter for now.

Soehnle Review Elegant but simple
This is a great scale. You can use any pot, plate on it and zero adjust. The nice thing is if it calls for two ingredients, put the first ingredient in as required by noting the weight, then zero adjust and then put in the second ingredient. No need to calculate. The bowl is dishwasher safe and the scale is easily wiped clean. Great products donot have to have a battery, computer and be a gadget. Wonderful mechanical product but as accurate as any digital scale.

Easy to use, Read. Versatile in that you can use any dish or bowl you want. Calibration is a cinch!

Soehnle Review Exactly what I was looking for!

Soehnle Review Exactly as advertised
This scale has no frills, but it does everything that it advertises. The one button operation takes a little getting used to, especially in using it to turn the scale off. Otherwise, it's great.

Soehnle Review Accurate and easy to use
Really pleased w/ this purchase:

+ Compact size so I can actually stick it in a kitchen drawer.
+ Does finer increment than other cheaper brands.
+ Does both grams and oz which is important for bakers.
+ Precise. I used to have a Thinner that the same item reads different weights almost every time.

Soehnle Review still going after 7-8 years
I bought this scale 7 or 8 years ago to weigh/measure my food. I'm diabetic, and the scale is great for getting accurate portions for counting carbs. The scale is small but has handled every job I've needed it for. It takes a battery that you can buy anywhere, and it lasts for a long time. I use my scale every day and it's never had a problem. It easily wipes clean if you spill food on it, it small & easy to store and it's very accurate. This scale can measure in both ounces/pounds and grams. I mainly use the gram setting, but if you want to switch to ounces you just flip the switch on the bottom of the scale.

Soehnle Review I couldn't turn it on either.
I don't know if Amazon keeps shipping the same broken scale or what, but mine would not turn on either. I returned it.

Soehnle Review Nice scale.....but
Very nice looking scale. Unfortunately it would not turn on no matter what I tried. Battery was good, so it is evidently a bad switch.

Soehnle Review Happy scale purchase
Considered the Futura but this scale has a smaller footprint and is easy to switch between grams and ounces/pounds with the button right on top. Glass on top screws off for cleaning. I like it and have had no problems in the 5 months owned it.

Soehnle Review Bad Buttons, Short Battery Life
Beautiful to look at, BUT, I agree with other reviewers that buttons are difficult to operate and don't even work sometimes, plus be prepared to change batteries every few months--ridiculous for something that uses TWO lithium batteries and is not in heavy, or even everyday use!

Soehnle Review 2 things
Having a scale is great for portion control.

This scale looks artful and is accurate, but there are 2 things I don't like about it. The turn off button and the reset button don't work very well, and the grams/ounces switch is very difficult to reach. And yes, I find the grams/ounces switch to be important, since on all packaging serving size calories are always given in grams, but most other sources of info give calorie info in ounces.

Soehnle Review WOW, what a beauty!
When I bought this scale from amazon, I couldn't quite picture how big it was, and I was afraid it was going to be too large (I have a very small apartment kitchen). When it arrived, I was very pleased on several levels--first, it is really compact and sleek; second, that it is even more beautiful in person than it was in the picture; and third, because of the open base, it is hangable! (Not to say that the manufacturer would RECOMMEND hanging it but that it's design makes that possible.)

The scale now has a place of honor on the wall next to my stove, along with my Henckel magnetic knife rack and my stir fry pan. When you have a tiny space, you have to make use of every available inch...and that includes the walls! :)

I have not used the scale a great deal yet but love it already. The only criticism I have, and perhaps my package was just missing something, is that the only instructions I got is a series of pictures in multiple languages. You've GOT to be kidding! I was so turned off by this that I just put down this so-called "instruction" sheet and turned on the scale...just one button and easy to use. Still, some text instructions for switching from pounds to grams, cleaning, etc. would have been nice.

Soehnle Review Piece of Junk
This scale is a piece of junk! Every time I would put food on the scale and get a reading, after waiting a few minutes the number would change! Or I would weigh an apple once and get 6.0. I would weigh THE SAME APPLE again and get 6.2. I would weigh it again and get 5.8! It drove me crazy. Even when I would zero the scale out, after a few minutes it would show a negative number. I returned the first one and asked for a replacement. I thought it was just that particular scale. But the replacement scale did exactly the same thing. Argh!

Soehnle Review Don't walk away, it will change weight
I totally agree with the last review of this scale. By the time I weighed out the next ingredient to be added to the bowl on the scale, the display showed 8-16 grams more. I even delayed the time between adding ingredients hoping the scale would settle on a single weight. I tried using different types of bowls (plastic, glass, metal), but it made no difference. The buttons are inadequate. It is hard to discribe the button design because the right front edge of the scale is labeled ON OFF TARE. You may turn the scale OFF trying to TARE the weight of the last ingredient. This usually leads to a loud expletive. I purchased this scale based upon the good reviews this product had as well as the fact that this scale is from the same company that manufactures the most highly rated, but very expensive, scale I've found. However, based on what I know now, I would never recommend this scale to anyone. I guess I got what I paid for - a cheap scale.

Soehnle Review Can a scale be too cranky and indecisive?
I've gotten into bread baking and many of the books recommend measuring ingredients by weight instead of volume so I bought this scale. It's very affordable and made by what I considered to be a good manufacturer. I didn't think, though, that I would meet a scale that is so temperamental and indecisive. I always place the scale on a level, flat surface but when I put something on it to be weighed, the readout fluctuates anywhere from tenths of an ounce to an ounce or two, going up or down and not really settling anywhere. I have to wait a minute for the scale to make up its mind about EXACTLY how much the object weighs.

I probably should have gone to a brick-and-mortar store to check out the actual design of the scale before I placed my order. Instead of individual on/off and tare buttons, this scale has "on", "off", and "tare" marked on the front edge of the scale and you are supposed to press down on your function of choice and the edge kind of buckles down and activates hidden buttons inside the mechanism: Bear with me here, this is weird and hard to describe! And it doesn't work very well either. Sometimes, pushing down on "tare" turns the scale off. I don't know why they didn't opt for simple straightforward buttons for the functions, but there you go.

The button that switches the scale between pounds/ounces to metric is on the bottom of the scale. While it doesn't particularly bother me, one time, I did want to weigh something in one system and switch to another (too lazy to bust out the old conversion formula) and I had to remove the item, turn the scale over, flip the switch, and start the weighing process again.

I think I should have returned this and bought another model that would have made me happier. This was a lesson in buying gadgets without physically checking them out--this scale looks good on paper and has a very affordable price tag, but it's not the best digital scale out there. More than half the time, I don't feel like dealing with this wishy washy scale so I just measure out my ingredients by volume. Which, indeed, defeats the purpose of why I got this scale in the first place!

Soehnle Review Extremely disspointed, and I wanted to love it!
My husband got me this scale for Christmas. My parents also got me a scale, one of the salter ones with what they thought were similar features (granted, it was approximately $10-$15 more than the Soehnle).

First - the Soehnle scale came out of the box with a peice rattling around inside it, and the sticker(!!) that covers the digital readout totally off, and sticking to the manual. It felt flimsy and cheap, and even the buttons felt as if they would come off in my hands. It looks so nice in the photo, and even though I had known it was plastic before I requested it - it doesn't look quite as nice/sturdy in person.

Second, I had thought it was more feature-rich. I wasn't expecting it to be so simple, yet so difficult. There's no easily found way to zero the scale, and the tare button is the same as the on/off button! Addtionally, it is a large scale, and I found myself wondering if it really needed to be that big for what it does (or rather doesn't) do.

I'm keeping the Salter that my parents bought me, and returning this model!

Soehnle Review Easy to read scale
This scale is easy to read and also accurate. It is larger than I had anticipated but is light weight.

Soehnle Review Works GREAT, holds up under use.
Well, I've had this scale for over a year now, and I love it. It's accurate, easy to use, and despite what other reviewers have said about durability, it's held up perfectly.

Sure, it's plastic, but it's lightweight and easy to handle. Just don't drop it. I can't imagine that would be good for any scale!

As for the single button for on-off-tare... it is simplicity itself. If the unit is off when you press the button, it turns on. If the unit is on, and the indicated weight is not ZERO, pressing the button will TARE the current weight to zero. If the unit is on, and indicating zero weight, pressing the button turns it off!

This all sounds more complicated when read than when you actually use it. In fact, the use of this single button was completely intuitive to me... I had no need for the user manual whatsoever.

The readily-accessible metric/english switch is really great. You can weigh something, flick the switch, and see the weight in the other units! Nice...

I've had no problems with this scale after 13 months, and would buy another one.
