A Great tool to have around for those pesky jars
A must have gadget! This is an excellent jar opener. Use it right side up for large and small size jars and flip it over for medium size jars. All you do is grip it on the jar, firmly hold the handles and twist. Your jar will be open in a blink. It has teeth that grip but do not damage the cover. I have not been disappointed with any of the new line of KitchenAid tools and gadgets and I am sure you won't be either. They are excellent quality and made to last. Definitely a gadget must have!

Kitchenaid can do betterMy kitchen is all Kitchenaid so of course I had to have this, but as other commenters said - they can do better. It's a pain to set, it's angle is awkward and you have to be right in front of it to see the display and at the right angle (I'm short). And the beep isn't that loud. There's no clock in it either. The metal band around the outer rim corroded too so it doesn't look nice anymore.
I have a non-Kitchenaid timer that's got the clock, 2 timers, a button to set H/M/S seperately, and shows you how long it's been since you missed the beep that beeps for over a minute. I use this one more. (I think it's an older West Bend model)

Does the jobIt's my first kitchen timer. It's reliable. Sometimes I find that if you accidentally activate it, it stays on for a while; I've had to take out the battery to get it to turn off at times. I wish it had a feature that told you how much time had expired since the timer went off.
R2D2Cute little pudge looks just like the charactor from Star Wars. I bought a new stove and it gives one little buzz and then stops. I was burning too many cookies, so I bought the Kitchenaid Timer. After years of plastic junk, I am very happy to have a quality timer. It is completely enclosed, with no crevices, so you can pick it up with your gunky hands and just wipe it off when you're done. It has an ingenius way of activating, but as soon as you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature. It rings long and loud, which makes me happy.

Not the results I wantedI thought this would replace the need for a food mill. Not quite. I tried it for tomato sauce and it worked more like a juicer. I do use it when making spinach lasagna to get all of the water out of the spinach. The screen can be hard to clean.
I've only used it for the two tasks above. I'm sure I'll like it more as I experiment.
Update 3/21/06 I made applesauce yesterday with this attachment and it was wonderful.

Making tomato juiceThis is a wonderful attachment for the Kitchen Aid Mixer. I have made lots of tomato juice this year and the attachment made it so easy. I have always avoided making juice because it was so hard and time consuming.
Great for Applesauce but not for rasberriesI tried this for rasberries and it left too much of the berry stuff among the seeds, so foolishly I ran it through again. That cracked the strainer. I'm still using it (cracked and all) for applesauce, going on 15 years, and its still the cat's pajamas. Everyfall it gets loaned out to my friends who don't own a mixer. (Otherwise I'd buy them this strainer pack).
But for Applesauce, its is so worth it. A 16qt pan of apple mash (skins, seeds, stems) takes about 10 minutes to seperate into muck and sauce. Why can it, when you can make it fresh anytime you want it?

Pan warpsAlthough this pan is heavy, it warps during cooking. (It's flat when cool, but once placed in the oven, it makes a sharp noise within a few minutes as one corner of the pan bends upward). I like my pans to stay even throughout the cooking process. I wouldn't recommend this one.
Heavy Duty & Very NonstickLike the other Kitchenaid nonstick bakeware, this cookie sheet is made from very heavy gauge metal and, unlike Ecko and even Wilton, the nonstick coating is thick and durable.
Don't gouge the surface with metal implements, don't overheat the the cookie sheet (450 F max), and don't use an abrasive nylon pad like a Scotchbrite to clean it. The nonstick surface is so effective that there should be no need for harsh cleaning. Even seriously baked on foods should come off after an hour of soaking in warm water.
From reading the descriptions, I'm not sure what difference there is between this item and the Kitchenaid 17-Inch Slider (item K2901), other than the fact that I paid twice as much for this item. I bought two of them, and they're very nice. This is probably a lifetime purchase, unlike all other nonstick bakeware I've ever bought, so I'm trying not to be too upset by the price. But for those still shopping, look for the 17 Inch Slider.

Only a few cookie disks (the small ones) work...I just received this cookie press last week and tried it during the weekend. The first batch was a disaster. None of dough stuck to the cookie sheet. Turned out my daughter and I had to roll the dough and use cookie cutters to make the cookies. For the second batch, I decided to use the Butter Snow Flakes recipe mentioned in the previous review. The result was a little bit different. Still the cookie shapes were terrible. I was using the flower disc, around one or two (or none) petals of the flower would stick to the cookie sheet.
Finally I decided to change the disc to Squiggle. It actually worked much better. I also tried Butterflies, the result was good too. Both of them are small shapes. The lesson learned here is that the bigger shapes (most of the discs) don't work.
I wouldn't recommend this product.

Still learning -- but funI wanted to make some cookies with my 3-year old that were tasty, pretty and easy, so I bought this press. I should start by saying that I do not know how to use a cookie press, nor am I very good at making cookies in general. I read all the reviews, and the only drawback to this one I could see was that it had no recipes -- so I tried it.
That is only the drawback! I found a recipe online and tried out the press. Worked just fine, first try for the more simple designs (hearts, ribbons and butterflies). The amount comes out fine and the thing is easy to use.
The machine itself is nice. The built-in storage container for the discs is cool, and after 3 (maybe 4 batches) of cookies, everything is still working just fine. Clean up is simple.
I like it.

Excellent cookie press!!I received this press two nights ago and immediately made a batch of spritz cookies...they were the easiest, least frustrating spritz I have ever made!! This cookie press works absolutely perfectly. It is made entirely of plastic with a notched metal shaft. Each press of the lever pushes the "press" down another notch, dispersing the precise amount of dough needed per cookie. Clean-up is easy with warm soapy water. It does not come with a recipe, but I used the Butter Snow Flakes from Allrecipes, and the dough was the perfect consistancy. Again, wonderful cookie press. Skip the Wiltons, the metal one and especially the battery-operated one, and get this instead. You won't regret it!!

It fits the Artisan mixer!!This mixing bowl cover set fits my Artisan stand mixer (KSM 150)... even though the Artisan is a 5 quart bowl and is not listed as a compatible match to this bowl cover set. None of the bowl covers are noted to fit the KSM 150, so I wrote to KitchenAid and they wrote back that this one would, and it does!
I am pleased that the three mixing attachments all fit neatly inside the covered bowl and that I can leave it out on the countertop. I look forward to many years of clean whips, whisks and hooks.

Good-bye ugly mixer covers! These covers fit perfectly the bowls that come standard with the K45S mixer. They also wash up quite nicely in the dishwasher (upper rack of course).
I love using the bowl covers because they eliminate the need for using an ugly mixer cover. It is a much nicer look and I still don't have to worry about dust collecting in the bowls.
The round indentation in the center of the covers that you see in the photo is there to allow space for the post that you attach the mixer blades to.
Very good quality, very nice idea.
Get a set, you'll be glad you did.

gets rusty very quicklybeware of getting rusty after only few times of use, bought a month ago, got rusty, had to return it.
Update:
I tried 3 different sets of this product, all 3 sets got rusty quickly. The set looks nice and it is very handy and resonably sharp. That is the reason I tried it, but it gets rusty very quickly. So I never buy Kitchenaid cutlery set.

NICE SET, NORMAL CARETHIS IS A NICE SET OF CUTLERY FOR UNDER $100. EVEN THE STEAK KNIVES ARE QUITE NICE, UNLIKE SOME OF THE CHEAP STEAK KNIVES INCLUDED IN SOME SETS. LIKE MOST KNIVES IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THEY BE WASHED, RINSED AND DRIED BY HAND AFTER EACH USE. AUTO DISHWASHER USE IS NOT RECOMMENDED. KNIVES TREATED WELL WILL NOT RUST GENERALLY. CUTLERY MADE OF MORE EXPENSIVE ALLOYS IS MORE RUST RESISTANT....A SINGLE KNIFE MAY COST MORE THAN THIS ENTIRE SET. IF I USED KNIVES HOURS EACH DAY I WOULD PURCHASE A FINE SET MADE OF GERMAN STEEL ALLOYS. BEST WISHES!
nice well made set, good looking tooSolid set of good looking cutlery. As other reviewer mentioned, knives must be hand washed and dried after use. All higher quality knives are not all that rust resistant, the more resistant it is, the less it retains its fine edge. If you see your knives rust, it might be a sign of better quality (edge holding ability, ease of proper sharpening).

More problems with constructionThe reviews describing this device's construction problems are accurate. I just had my grater break at the threaded shaft that connects the handle to the grating cylinder after maybe a dozen uses for grating parmesan. Their stand mixers are the undisputed champs, but KitchenAid's hand graters are of a different and inadequate caliber. Save the $20 and look elsewhere.
Does KitchenAid know this grater is mediocre?I received this grater as a Christmas gift, and the following August it broke. I stripped the plastic screw that holds the handle to the grating barrel. And all I did was unscrew it for cleaning! If these reviews don't get your attention, let the amount of plastic on this grater send up red flags. Why would the part receiving so much torque ever be made of plastic?!? I am curious to see how KitchenAid will handle my complaint, since I can't find this product anywhere on their website, and a search for it comes up empty. Not a good sign...

Best blender since I've been a blender owner....This is easy to use, easy to clean, love the cord storage beneath for easy storage. My last blender which did a great job chopping ice was nice, but it also doubled as a food processor and everytime I used it, had to take out the manual and both the blender jar/and processor jar took me forever and a day in the land of frustation getting it on just right, so it would work. I've passed it onto someone else with more patience than myself. And I've also gotten a separate food processor. Kitchenaide is the right tool for blenders and mixers at this point for me.
Wasting away again in MargaritavilleAfter owning a @$#%@#$%!@#$!$#** blender made by Oster this is a great relief.
The wide and short container is the way to go (and it does hold a lot). The shape helps things mix much better than the tall skinny design of other blenders. Of course the fact that it has an industrial strength motor helps. In any case it mixes ice or anything else just fine without bogging down.
The built in cord storage is a nice bonus. As is the way the container just sets down on the base with no twisting or effort. The container takes apart easily for cleaning. The base also is easy to wipe clean. The buttons on the base are actually good for what they say they are, and are clearly labeled. Very smooth operation, not a lot of vibration. Still sounds like a blender, but on the quieter side of blender volumes.
In all ways this blender will save you from blender frustration. You will quickly forget about how wonderful it is because it simply does what it is supposed to without any hassle.

The blenderThis blender sets itself apart from other blenders in a couple of important ways. Its glass is shorter and wider than other blenders, and this in combination with the shape of the blades makes it very difficult for stuff to hand about and not get blended. Also, it is a powerhouse. It has a fat motor and just will not let you down. But, and this is possibly my favorite, the cord wraps up neatly in the base for clutter free storage.
One last point I would like to make, is that this is GREAT for someone you know who has arthritis, or who has trouble using their hands to open things like jars..this is where it can come in very handy as a friendly present toward them!
