Maybe the "Yugo" of Pressure cookersThe pressure cooker set works very well!
The little stainless steel valve housing doesnt't.
I replaced the first after a couple weeks. The second one cost me an additional $15 and only lasted a week at the most. The pressure cooker works very well and this piece is mostly for looks and keeps the steam off of your fingers when pressing the steam release. If Kuhn-Rikon doesn't offer a solution I will return this item to Amazon.com.

Great can openerI know can openers aren't typically something to get excited over, but this one is excellent. It opens the can without cutting it, so there are no sharp edges and you can re-seal the can using the original lid.
Why I Love This Can OpenerWe own the slightly more expensive version of this can opener; at the time we purchased it, this was the only model available.
My wife and I find this to be the best can opener we have ever used; we even use it to open cans that have lift top lids (such as Del Monte canned sliced peaches). Why this can opener is so good is because of how it works and the quality of the product. It is made like a Swiss watch; there is no slop in the movement.
It is different than a traditional can opener which you place along the side of the can top and it cuts off the top. This can opener you place on top of the can and it separates the top of the can from the can cylinder. Contrary to the language used in the Amazon review, the can opener does not depend on cutting. The Kuhn Rikon Safety Lid Lifter depends on breaking the seal between the lid and the can.
The knob that you turn rotates a knurled wheel. When pinched on a can, it is forced into contact with the inside edge of the can lid. The wheel of the can opener that is on the outside is set at a slight angle that causes a lifting action to break the bond between the can and the lid.
Initially, you turn the knob clockwise. When the opener has gone completely around the top of the can and you detect a drop in force, you then turn the knob counter-clockwise and the lid lifts away from the can. Typically, there are no sharp edges because nothing has been cut.
Because of my fascination with this can opener, I have examined a lot of cans that were opened with this opener. Only one time I found a sharp point that must have occurred when the lid did not properly separate from the cylinder.
It takes getting used to:
When you place the can opener on top of the can, it must lay flat. Once you get used to it, you automatically push down lightly on the turning knob as you close the grips. This assures that the can opener is laying flat on top of the can.
The drawbacks:
There are some cans that this opener will not open but these are few.
I notice in some reviews people talk about sliver pieces and I have seen this. What I believe they see is a small particle of the glue ring that seals the top of the can to the cylinder in the assembly process.
The can opener is designed for use by right-handed people. To operate this opener, you need to be able to position the can opener on the can with your left hand and hold it there while turning the knob with your right hand. If you can't do that, you probably don't want this can opener.

Ideal new way to open cansI knew of this method of opening cans to leave them with no sharp edges and easy to pour product out. But this can opener is very high quality and very impressive. It is stainless steel to avoid rusting. and even has a griper to pull the freed lid up and off if needed. A really great use on on products that are solid like bean and bacon condensed soup. If you use the pull top easy open lid to open it, you get a lip around the can that prevents easy removal of the product. With this can opener you get no lip and the product slips out easily!
When it pleases my son-in-law, it has to be FIVE STAR ! ! ! ! !Thanks to the reviews, I ordered two for Christmas; for my laid-back son, and my very outspoken son-in-law, both of whom are wonderful chefs. They love it.
The easiest can opener everI have replaced my electric can opener with this product. It is easy to use, does not leave a top with a sharp end, has a handle to lift the top from the can, and is easy to clean.

Life saverDuring my recent kitchen remodel, my pressure cooker saved my life. All I had was a single burner, but that was enough to turn out a meal that tasted as if I had spent hours in the kitchen when I didn't even have one. For me it feels like magic--I still cannot believe how good lamb stew is when it takes just 25 minutes to cook. And I love to put in a nearly 5-pound chicken, some vegetables, and a little broth and let it rip for 25 minutes. I never worry about excess pressure because of the redundant safety features. It's a much handsomer pot than it looks in the photo. It is definitely NOT my mother's pressure cooker!
Easy, fast, economical with great results!I purchased a Kuhn Rikon in January and have used it over 30 times since, having never used a pressure cooker before. It is simple to use and produces a better finished product than just about any other method of cooking. Meats that take long cook times are done quickly to a juicy, tender, flavorful result.
If you take a little time to learn the basics and watch your cooking times you will be most pleasantly surprised. We have certainly paid for our cooker already by cooking less expensive cuts of meat and eating out less often. We know we can have a really satisfying meal on the table in an hour or less.
Some of our favorites have been; pot roast with vegetables added the last 7 minutes, cooking time approx 55 min total, stroganoff made with stew meat, (no cutting up the meat), add noodles the last 6 min, fork tender meat, total cook time about 25 min., meaty Short ribs -35 minutes, beef stew 25 minutes, split pea soup, 10 minutes, risotto 7 minutes, chicken cacciatore 10 minutes.
I have begun to enjoy cooking again. With the limited time we have to prepapre a meal after work and hectic family weekends this pressure cooker has brought real home cooking back into our life.

Occasional Reviewer1. Very well designed and made. It warms up fast as all cookware with 3-ply bottom. Mirror finish let it stay hot for a long time and use very low level of burner to keep pressure. Pressure valve doesn't release smells and quite silent.
2. Cooking under pressure saves me in average 50% of time.
3. Overprized, but wait for a good sale.

Swiss name but made in China ....of rather light-weight plastic and metal. Make sure you follow the instructions:
Do NOT use non-stick cookie sheets or parchment.
Make sure the cookie sheets are cold.
It was hard to find cookie sheets that were not non-stick on Amazon. I finally went with the WearEver line but have since changed to the highly rated Chicago Metallic 'Natural'. I hope, after ordering the 'non' non-stick sheets, it works. Will update with a more positive review (I hope). Till then, the best I can do is 3 Stars.
03/02/06 update: Go with the Sunbeam set. It is about 1/3 the cost and seems sturdily built with more bells and whistles. Both are Chinese.

So fast and easyI really love having this cookie press. I always wanted to have one like my mother's. I enjoy being able to make so many cookie so fast and so easily. I had no problem with the recipe, product, or cooking instructions.
Elegant cookies fast!I got this press to replace my old Pampered Chef one in time for holiday baking and am so glad that I did! I just finished my second batch of spritz cookies in record time. I've used four of the 20 plates so far and only had two incomplete cookies, both of which were the first press after a refill using a very intricate plate. The cookies are small and dainty-looking, but are not fragile (a problem I had with the larger cookies made by my old press). The only problem I have with this one is that the plunger is concave instead of flat, which makes the last cookie come out as a blob. Of course, there is no shortage of volunteers in my house to dispose of the "extra" dough, so it's a problem I can live with. I haven't used it as a decorator yet, but plan to in the near future. I am very glad to see that the decorator adapter takes standard tips, so I can easily use the ones I already have in addition to the ones that came with it. All in all, a great product for a great price.
Update: I used the press to fill thumbprint cookies with icing and was very pleased. The press gave me a great level of control and was easier to use than other decorators I've tried.

A good pressure cookerThis is a useful piece of kitchen tool that can save cooking time. It is very quiet when cooking. I like it.
What a Lifesaver!I absolutely love my Kuhn Rikon Pressure Cooker! With today's busy lifestyles that sometimes leave little room for flexibility, this pressure cooker solves that problem. Whip up a main dish in no time flat when unexpected company shows up for dinner or you're just too tired to prepare it the conventional way.
My husband has wanted to purchase a pressure cooker for quite some time. I was afraid of them after witnessing one blowup as my grandmother cooked with her's. I'm not afraid of this one. It was very easy for me to quickly figure out how to put it to use it.
I have a gas stove so it was easy to regulate the pressure. The instructions for cooking on an electric stove in the book that came with it seem simple enough to me. I don't think it would be that much more of a challenge to regulate the pressure if you followed the advice of the experienced.

WOW! NOW you're cooking with steam! This POT Rocks! And I thought I knew what a `good' pressure cooker was! And boy does this save energy!
A friend recommend this model to me when I was looking at new pressure cookers. My old family hand-me down Presto worked, but the cap with the white lines that popped up wasn't popping up - and I detest the `rocker' pots - noisy, and to me, dangerous. So I was looking for a new PC and I was on the fence between this model and the one without the long handle. GET THIS ONE. It might seem a bit awkward at first, but if you have ever lifted a pot of pot roast or 6 Liters of Bean Soup, you know how heavy it can be! - and the long handle saves the day! And I have to say that I own several `large' pressure cookers for canning, but only had the 1940's-early 1950's pressure cooker from my grandmother for cooking.
Before I go too far I also have to say that I went to school with a friend who became a beach-bum in the South Pacific - Degrees in Environmental Engineering and Enviro. Planning from UC and she's a beach bum on a sail boat in the South Pacific while I had to teach! - Well she points out that on a sail boat, energy is precious, more so than gold sometimes - and that one of the greatest presents she ever got was a Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker - given to her by a Scandinavian who was about to declare his boat open salvage for anyone who chose to come and take stuff - and she says that this pressure cooker saves them hundreds of dollars a year in gas. WOW!
And I've noticed the same thing - this puppy is so tight that I can put in, literally, 2-4 tablespoons of water and cook two large artichokes in about 15 minutes! Once the water boils (about 3 minutes) I can lock the top, turn the gas down, and in 15 minutes on a bare simmer I can get perfect artichokes! Carrots take 5 minutes, Broccoli about 3. A pot FULL of close to seven liters of whole potatoes will cook perfectly with less than a quarter cup of water and about 30 minutes on low flame! You can have an entire pot-roast dinner in under an hour - and that includes browning your meat in the pressure cooker, adding the veggies and spices, and bringing it up to pressure and turning it down to simmer. And it is KILLER pot roast.
YOU WILL WANT A FLAME-TAMER (or if you have hung around bio. or chem. labs, a `flame spreader') it's one of those things you put on top of a burner that has lots of holes in it and `spreads out the heat' so you keep from scorching the bottom of cheap pans, or cook cast iron with thick tomato paste low enough so it can cook all day and not burn the tomato to the bottom of the pan. Others have mentioned this and the reason has been mentioned by others, this pot is SO energy efficient that most stoves today just don't go low enough to keep the pressure where it belongs. Older stoves do, but newer stoves don't. This is particularly true if you are cooking using very little water.
I took out my personal camping stove - an MSR Dragonfly - and using a home-made stand, was able to make about a gallon of bean soup in an hour! And my Dragonfly was not on `scorch' - even IT was turned down to a medium flame! I tried an old soviet gasoline stove modeled after the ever famous Seva known to back-packers and campers world wide - and I made 7 liters of chicken and dumplings in an hour and 20 minutes!! WOW!
So - is this a wonder cooker or what? Here's the deal - is it worth almost TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR A PRESSURE COOKER!? - well, simply put, yeah, it is!
Why? Because it cooks FAST, it uses very little fuel, you can cook with nearly no water for extended periods of time because there is nearly no water lost through venting - thus the FIVE part safety valves - the friend who recommend it to me had a pressure cooker blow up on her once and was a scaredy-cat. And she loves hers and is comfortable with it. I can tell you that there are enough safety features on this pot that even if you were stupid you wouldn't be able to burn yourself or have it blow up in your face - or blow up unattended in the kitchen - it would simply blow out multiple valves and not vent stuff up onto your ceilings like older designed cookers do. (I've made the mistake of taking the top off of a pressure cooker too soon - and know how scary it can be - this cooker seems to `lock' the lid until the pressure is right enough for me to take the lid off and not have the contents blow-up in my face.
So -- this pressure cooker rocks! - and if you have never used one before - THIS IS THE MICROWAVE OF THE PAST - only it actually cooks food so that it tastes like it should! I've had mine about two years now - and I can say that it is a very rare week when I don't use it for at least steaming veggies - and in the winter - well - you can have amazing home made soups in well under an hour from start to finish - using far less than a quarter of the fuel that you would normally use! - This is a Pressure Cooker for a New Age of Environmentally Friendly and Healthy cooking! I think I have probably saved the cost of the pot in natural gas over two years -- not to mention the vitamins that are retained because you cook with so little water they stay IN the food you are cooking! (not in the water you take the 'food' out of as in older types of pressure cookers) --

Great Time Saver! The vegetable chopper has become my favorite cooking utensil! It saves me so much time in the kitchen and chops into pieces that are smaller and more consistent than I can do on my own. It has become a lifesaver, I would highly recommend purchasing one!
I have big to medium burners on my stove, (gas) when I want something to simmer just a little for a long time, this is a must.
It keeps my soups, stews etc. from burning. gives a more even heat, and I have Calphalon commercial cookware.
It keeps my stove cleaner, from foods that might boil over, or splatter.
If you have a stove with smaller burners, the flame will spread out farther underneath for a more even cooking.
This one says it's non-stick, which looks better then what I have!
I bought mine at William Sonoma, and Calphalon only makes it for them.
But mine is the same size, same price.
Years ago I had one that was a smaller size, and cast iron, this one is bigger and more even heat.
Just remember when using this, it will take a bit longer to heat up your pots, and do not touch it with out using a pot holder.
It stays HOT for a long time.
