Cutlery Review crap
I'm not even sure how it works? Its not that convenient for everyday use. I really just wanted a sheath for 1 knife.

Cutlery Review Professional Cook Likes it, little small though
I'm a professional cook and have to carry and keep my knives at work...It fits my 14" carver, honing steel, 10 serrated bread, and 8" chef's knife and carving fork well...but that already takes up 5 slots....I end up stacking my paring knife with my peeler, baller, zester, pens and thermometers together....
This is a good beginner knife case...a little expensive, but a placeholder until your ready to plunk down bigger bucks for a larger case.

Cutlery Review Best boning knife in the world
I have used this knife for almost 30 years and rate it #1. This time I'm buying one for my daughter.

Cutlery Review The Henckels 4 Star Knife
I have owned this particular knife for 5 years now and it is one of my favorite and most useful knives. As a professional chef, i own several boning and filet knives both curved, straight, and stiff and flexible. At 7 inches it is long enough tobe used for everything from trimming tenderloins to cutting through tuna loins. it has a decent heft and the handle is large enough to fit my hand (a problem i found in other knives) another feature i enjoyed with this knife is how smooth itis without any crevices to harbor microorganisms in its handle or bolster. My girlfriend on the other hand finds the blade a bit too long for use in our home. prefering the 5.5 inch pro s boning knife. I also enjoy the slight flex in the blade it allows me to use knife in situations suitable for either a flexible or a stiff bone. All in all it is extremely useful in a professional kitchen and not a necessity in a home kitchen but it is very nice to have in both settings.

Cutlery Review Works fine. Cheap. Cute. Not for hot foods.
These aren't the most durable, but they do last through quite a few uses. The colors are cheerful, and they work fine. Their thin shape makes them easy to store. You can even curl them in your hands to make a sort of funnel to easily dump the chopped food into a pot. Nice item, and a bargain. And you can clean them in the dishwasher.

Recommended, but with these limitations: (1) Because they are so thin, you don't want to put anything hot onto them -- they will warp. (2) Because they are so light, they can slide around the counter. These limitations eventually made me switch to much more expensive, thick, rubber-footed cutting boards -- but only after a long period using these with good results.

Cutlery Review Spend a little more to get a lot better
I LOVE OXO products. I think they are some of the best designed kitchen tools on the market. I started using OXO knives when I found a 6" utility knife. That is a great knife. OXO makes many other great/good knives but this one is not worth the money. I was very excided to use it for the first time and when I did I noticed that the blade was flimsy, it was more like cutting with a sharp piece of sheet metal rather than using a sturdy knife. I would recommend spending a little more and getting a better knife.

Cutlery Review Better Knives For The Money
I also am sort of a kitchen knife nut. I enjoy cooking and any cook will tell you that knives are the cook's most important tool.

The first knives I ever actually purchaed was the OXO knives including this Chef Knife.

These knives work _GREAT_ at first and if you sharpen them they'll keep cutting. These knives are also very cheap yet the handles are comfortable.

The problems with the knife are also related to the low quality. Since the knife is very light it makes you do more work when cutting (if you cut properly and are not using your chef's knife like a parer or slicer). Also the knife is not full tang and has no bolster. Most cheap stamped knives like this are at least full tang. As a result this whole line of knives are not safe. Hence the one review about the knife breaking while cutting cheese. No chef's knife should break under such simple usage. Trying to cut a raw whole chicken with this knife would be dangerous if you did not know how to cut. Not a safe learner knife.

My advice is take the money you'd spend on this knife and look elsewhere. If you only need a Chef knife consider the Calphalon Chef knife. It's the best value for the the money. It's forged from German steel and will last a lifetime. Its about twice as much as this knife and sometimes can be had cheaply during a Friday sale. Or consider the forged set from Farberware which have received many best value awards.

I have top of the line Wustof an Sabatier knives which I've learned from experience are my favorites. If you have the money to spend hundreds on knives then top of the line knives are worth it. Happy knife shopping.

Cutlery Review Outstanding for the money
THis is a great knife that arrives quite dull. After correct sharpening, however, it became one of my favorites. It is easy to hold and the balance is good... a great buy overall, but it does dull easily. If you hate the rusting and/or discoloration of expensive high carbon steel knives, this is the knife for you. I find myself using it even when I could use a smaller knife. Use a stone to keep the edge on it after every use.

Cutlery Review Don't buy these!
I registered for these because Henckels has a good reputation, but i am really disappointed. The knives are not recommended for the dishwasher and I have hand washed them all. Despite this after one time of using the chopping knife and hand washing it, it has begun to rust. I wish I would have registered for the more expensive knives. In the long run it would have saved me money!

Cutlery Review Better than you might think
I understand that many people are disapointed in the quaility of this set. However you must realize that you are looking at the less expensive and there for lower quality knives. This doesnt not mean they are not good. These knives are better than any other in this price range. Just understand that you are not going to get the $50.00 per knife set and you will be more than satisfied with the purchase. I was.

Cutlery Review Great Knives!
We got this as a wedding present...what a great gift! I use these knives constantly, but especially for cutting up meat or vegetables. They are so sharp but even cut up baby tomatoes with ease. The wood block is small enough to be stored on a counter top and not take up much space at all. I'm so happy we got these!

Cutlery Review An investment? That's funny.
Brass rivets expand and contract. Wood expands and contracts. Together these elements are a bad concept from the word "go", because they will ultimately separate because someone will at one time or another put them in the dishwasher. The metal is only tempered 4 times leaving the metal soft, meaning there is a lot of sharpeing to do. Henckel, cutco, trident are expensive and chefs all over the world use them because the are used everyday and they retain their sharpness because they are tempered 7 times (the maximum amount before metal becomes so hard that it becomes brittle)

Wood is pourus and is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. You don't just wipe off knives and put them in a wood butcher block? What moran came up with that great concept? Utensils need to be sterilzed through a dish washer and very hot water with good cleaning agents.

Why woould you buy a knife that you can't put in the dish washer? Why would you ever purchase a knife that requires maintenance. There's no moving parts

Wood handle and stainless steel spells disaster. Learning to sharpen your own knives is not easy, chefs don't even do it. Reading direction from a pamphlet and attempting to sharpen your knives for the first time spells disaster. Your knives will never be the same if you attempt this. Companies sell sharpening tools to inexperienced knife sharpeners (like yourself) so they wreck their own knives and buy new. You buy clothes that require dry cleaning, correct? bring your knives in and have them professionally sharpened and protect your investment. You should only buy one pair of knives in your lifetime and they can be handed down from generation to generation.

A dull knife is a dangerous knife. A dull knife will require more pressure which will lead to a person cutting themselves.

Take it from me. I was a CEO with a company who marketed these knives to people like you and we made alot of money too. These knives were never designed to be passed on from generation to generation.

Cutlery Review J.P. Ess rebutal
J.P. Ess may have sold Chicago Cutlery but he does not know anything about good cutlery and its care. Knives are not put in a dish washer because they can hit against other utensils and this dulls the knife. If sterilization is required, only sterilize the blade. Chicago Cutlery does not make the best cutlery but their value for their quality can't be beat. You can verify this statement with Consumer Reports who has ratead knives during the past two months. I have had a 20 piece set of Chicago Cutlery knives for more than 20 years and they are very durable and hold a sharp edge better than knives costing much more. My knives never go close to the dish washer and are sharp enough to shave hair from your arm! ! ! ! !

Cutlery Review Premium steel between two wooden handles
I've had my set for maybe 20 years or more. I have an electric knife sharpener and every few months I run them all thru it. I use the steel on them every two or three times I use them and they are always superbly sharp. Being a lazy bachelor I run them thru the diskwasher. I'm not going to baby them, would rather buy a new set every few years, but haven't had to. Wood is white with age and a few cracks here and there but still holding up just fine. People who complain about these knives aren't doing the bare minimum to keep them sharpened. This is superb steel.

Cutlery Review Fantastic Set of Knives
My husband and I registered for this knife set when we married in 2005. I can honestly say that we both LOVE this knife set. We both love to cook, and value a good set of knives. Even when its received as a gift, we could not justify spending twice the amount on an "elite" knife block set. The knives are well balanced and nicely weighted, with a good in-hand feel. We have not yet had to sharpen them either (although the packaging states to sharpen before each use, we have not....)The fact that the set has every knife you could possibly want is a bonus too! I do have to admit though that seeing the empty slots did prompt me to fill in the gaps with a few more knives! The block also holds all of your steak knives too (I purchased an extra set to make 8) which is better than having them clank in a drawer against the rest of your silverware! Cleaning them is a breeze, in spite of the hand washing...a little soap and water on a cloth, a nice hot rinse, then dry and off to the block again. It never takes more than a few seconds, and to be honest, it's worth the extra effort to take care of something you plan on having in your kitchen for a while! (Like my Husband!!) This knife block has proven to be a great value, and our most prized wedding gift! We would highly reccommend it to anyone looking for a better than good, but not outrageously priced, knife set. It's well worth the $. If there's a BB and B or LNT near you, buy it there with the 20% off coupon and save yourselv $60!

Cutlery Review First Review...
This is a premium knife set from a premium cookware company. Granted, you can spend a ton less on a kitchen knife set, conversely you can also pay a ton more and get less knives too(see Wusthof). You get what you pay for in knives and you should generally buy the best set you can afford. Consider premium knives an investment because they are backed by a solid company for life and the quality construction & precise performance speaks for itself. It's like in hand-tools for example, Craftsman is considered the best (though higher priced than it's competitors). Why? Two reasons, one because of it's superior construction and two it's lifetime warranty from Sears.

I did not want a low end/low priced set from makers like Farberware or Chicago Cutlery - those types you can find at any kmart, walmart, or target. As far as kitchen knives are concerned hand forged, fine edge, full tang, high-carbon, stainless, German steel is widely considered the best(This set is that). High end knife brands such as Wusthof & Henckels are top of the line, however their pro quality forged sets are priced through the roof! I simply can't afford to splurge a grand on a knife set. I finally decided on this 20pc set after reading the reviews for Calphalon's 15pc set(180$). Admittedly, at first I was hesitant due to the fact the handles lack rivets. I really like the sleek styling, the ergonomically contoured handles, and the Calphalon brand. The style is simple, sleek, & modern.

The 15pc (Calphalon) set is nice and also a lot less expensive, however I wanted a more complete set and after comparing the cost to add knives individually, this set came out to be a better value. Some main differences (besides the obvious additional knife types) from the 15pc set are that this one has a better block (27 slots) w/ room to grow or add knives you may already have & also spaces to store your (8 included) steak knives-a feature the other block lacks. By the way, the block even has a stainless steel Calphalon tag on it that looks cool and just speaks quality in my opinion. The only con I noticed is that Calphalon downgraded the paring knife from 4.5 to 3.5". Maybe a cost cutting thing, I don't know. I love the fact the ends are etched (not simply printed on) to help you select the correct knife. What a great design improvement that is!

I got lucky and special ordered mine for 240$ after a 20% off coupon from a local retailer. That made the cost only 12$ per piece! I was also given a Calphalon 2pc. wood cutting board set(30$ value) as a bonus from the store.

In closing, this is a very well made premium set of knives and also a great value for the price. German Steel, baby!! (Always hand wash & dry) Highly Recommended. Hope my review is helpful. Thanks Calphalon, the Contemporary line Rocks!

Cutlery Review Our favourite cheese knife
The idea of a cheese knife with "holes" in the blade is to reduce the friction as one slices cheese, thus ensuring consistant slices, without the cheese crumbling or falling apart. This Global knife delivers admirabley to the task. Indeed, the design best fits hard cheeses, and Global have (imho) the best knife for this, period. Our old "stamped" knife bends and is awkward (dangerous) on hard cheeses.

For soft cheeses, this may not be the best knife, probably a knife such as one would use for pate would be best. But, it is the penultimate for soft cheeses, and the best all round cheese knife my wife and I have ever experienced. We never regret the purchase.

Cutlery Review Another great Global knife
This knife is great for hard cheeses, I can cut them without the slices crumbling to pieces. It feels very comfortable and sturdy in my hand like my other Global knife. The blade has a serrated edge so you will not be able to sharpen it easily, but if you only use it for cheese, it should stay sharp for a long time. This is another beautiful Global knife.

Cutlery Review Amazing piece of art for all cheese addicts
This beautiful Global knife comprises all distinctiveness of that great brand, including the price though ...
It is great for semi-hard and hard cheeses (although I would not strongly recommend it for Parmesan cheese, despite that it worked fine for me, since Wustohof parmesan cheese knife is appreciably more efficient for that purpose). Don't pay much attention on those that tell You advices such as that other [less expensive] imitations with similar shape would do the same job (I tried several of those prior I got Global). On the other hand, don't expect this knife to do a good job for soft cheeses.
Global knifes need a tad amount of attention and care, and in return beside superb design and balance (of course, which is an individual thing) are very thankful and durable. So if You are not cheese addict and prepared to give this knife care that it needs, then rather buy something else (cheaper that You can toast and replace after short time) - but of course, You won't know what You are missing ...

Cutlery Review the bagels will run and hide!
I bought one of these after using one in the caffeteria at work. Then I bought another after my mother took the first one!

Possibly inspired by the French revolution, the Bagel Biter borders on overkill - but you can't question it's effectiveness. Drop in a bagel, drop the blade, start schmearing cream cheese. It's very quick, very safe (if you can figure out how to hurt yourself with this, you're too smart for that nonsense in the first place) and very easy to clean. It's nonstick blade should cleave every conceivable bagel in your life.

It misses 5 star perfection on account of messiness - its straighthrough design deposits crumbs right on your countertop. A crumb catcher of some sort would be the garlic spread on the potato bagel :-)

Cutlery Review Dual Purpose Quick Action Tool
I've found this Bagle Biter to be a dual action tool. One that slices without dicing and also serves a stress buster after that rough mornin' commute. Never once known to fail and like those watches, it takes a lickin,' and keeps on splitin'those bagels each morning.

Cutlery Review Gotta Have The Bagel Biter!
We use one of these at work, and it is the best thing to use to cut bagels safely. When I saw this online at such a great price, I had to have one myself. I don't know how many times I've cut my fingers using regular knives to cut bagels! This holds the bagel for you, and all you do is push the blade through the bagel. The blade is sharp enough to easily glide through with one push. It is great! If you've gotta have a bagel, make sure you've got the bagel biter!

Cutlery Review Quality / Price Ratio = Excellent
After moving into college without any cooking or baking supplies, I needed to purchase a knife. Honestly, I purchased this knife instead of a smaller knife mainly because it looked murderous. Beyond that though, it works extremely well. I realize that it will not be as smooth as a high-end knife, but for the price, I couldn't imagine getting a better blade. I use this knife to slice fruit, cut boneless meats, and scare the girls in my dorm. Also, as an eversharp knife, it is even more suitable for a student like me because I won't need to worry about sharpening it. Even if it does get dull, I wouldn't mind paying the low price for another one of these knives.

Cutlery Review Good price for an all-around "filler" knife for daily use
I have extremely expensive knives I use when making elaborate meals, but I don't want to waste them on everyday use. I bought this knife to replace another cheap "eversharp" knife that finally lost its edge, and I have not been disappointed. No, this is not a knife for a chef nor to use on expensive meats and vegetables, but it's a great all around knife for every other use. The blade is NOT thin and flimsy, as another reviewer contends. It's probably one of the firmest blades I've seen on a $10 chef's knife. And the balance is just fine for slicing through tomatoes, making fruit wedges, slicing onions or cutting sandwiches. Yes, it can tear, but if you know what you're doing, you can adjust your technique to avoid this problem. It's one of those "what do you expect for 10 bucks?" situations. Anyone who buys this knife thinking it will compare with a $100 forged steel knife is rather foolish, but if you want to get a lifetime's worth of use out of your $100 knives, knives such as this Henckel cheapy are great fillers for your collection.

Cutlery Review great knife
Very sharp blade and comfortable handle. Excellent quality for the money. Only possible drawback is the box indicates it is not recommended for lefties. My wife, a lefty, says she has no problem slicing but has cut her fingers several times while chopping. I, a righty, have no such problems. Well worth the purchase price but be aware if you are, or you're buying the knife for, a lefty.
