Two years is totally accurate!I purchased mine three years ago and have battled getting it to work for over a year. I finally just thew it away. Initially it worked great, but after two years things it didn't heat every time I placed it on the base. Eventually I had to prop it up to reach a certain angle before it would engage.
5+ years old and going stongWe purchased two of these for making tea and instant coffee at the office. They have been working fine for more than 5 years.
I have had no problem with the filter falling out (not a single time). I have not had any problem with either machine failing to work. They work quickly every time they are turned on. I now use one at home to heat chicken or vegetable stock when making risotto or couscous because it is faster than using the stove. I also like that it is safer than using a teakettle or pan protecting curious little fingers.
I do have one caveat for others. If you fill the pot right to the top (beyond capacity), when you press the button to retract the lip to pour the water, the steam that escapes is very hot on your thumb. However, I think this is more an operator error than a design flaw.
Overall, I highly recommend this product for its speed, usefulness and for lasting 5 years with regular use.

A reliable potI've had the pot for 3 years now. My heating element remains in excellent condition; the filter stays in fine. I only use the pot for boiling water, however, and I've never boiled "hard" water with a higher mineral content. Perhaps the mineral content of water affects the heating element: who knows? I've never had a problem.

An effective electric kettle with some design defectsFor a person who has used 3 other electric kettles extensively, the Krups kettle is not the worst.
Pros:
- It boils fast, is relatively quiet and looks good;
- Its lit has a safety lock, a good safety feature if there are children in the household;
- Its footprint is small for a kettle with 1.7 Ltrs (11 cups) capacity;
Cons:
- When the water inside the kettle reaches boiling temperature, the exterior of the kettle can become quite hot, although not scortching. This problem is more accentuated when you are boiling a lot of water;
- The opening of its lit is a little too small. You may have to manuveur your water tap to fill up the bottle if you have a small kitchen sink;
- The heating plug on the base that connects to the bottom of the kettle has a delicate shape. When putting the kettle onto the base, you may sometimes have to twist and turn slightly for the kettle to sit properly onto the base plug;
- Min. boiling capacity is 3 cups, not 1 or 2; If you are only boiling for yourself, you could be wasting time and electricity;
- The power cable is around 2 feet long (approximation only.. I don't know the precise length). It could prove to be a little too short for some household...
Bottom line: For 50 USD, this is not a cheap kettle in absolute terms. However, comparing to the other electric kettles on the market, it is a reasonable value for money purchase. It does have some tolerable defects in design, but it delivers fast and relatively quiet water boiling performance. This is what an electric kettle is all about...
I will keep this kettle.

Great alternative to stovetop kettlesWonderful for tea and coffee drinkers! My fiance (the coffee drinker) uses the kettle for a single cup of coffee. He prefers it to a coffee maker, because the water gets so hot and provides a better brew. I buy quality loose leaf teas and appreciate a kettle that boils water very quickly. The Krups has a rather small footprint, so we don't mind it being on the counter regularly. Other good points:
1. Large enough to boil water for eight people.
2. Easy to clean
3. Safe - kettle turns off when water is ready.
4. Red light indicates kettle is on when water is brewing
A couple of things to consider:
1. At 1500 watts, this is a real energy sucker, on par with medium-sized blow dryers and larger microwaves.
2. The heating element on the base seems a bit delicate and requires one to both lift and lower the kettle carefully.

Love this Kettle!I purchased this wonderful boiling kettle approx. a month ago. I've been using it daily for my tea and other water mixtures I brew up. It's faster than boiling water on the stove and even faster than the microwave! I love that it holds 11 cups of water so I always have enough water for anything I making for myself or family. It turns off automatically when the water is at boiling point. The spout poors nicely too. Some kettles or coffee pots don't poor well then tend to spill; not this one. It's a really handy appliance to have in the kitchen. I'm soooo glad I purchased it.
It is the same exact item as what came with the actual coffee maker and works just fine.
