Just received the new jar, I double checked and the model number is correct, the jar looks just like the old one, but the jar is just slightly too big and does not fit in the assembly. Am very unhappy.

On my Counter there are 3 appliances: A 50s era streamlined chrome GE Toaster, still works like the day it was new; a 70s GE Toaster Oven with fake wood grain, not as cool looking but still works perfect; and last this Krups espresso machine, it never worked right, agonizingly slow, I thought perhaps it was just my inexperience, I did all the cleaning, descaling as advised, now after barely a year the pump makes groaning noises and nothing comes out, I'm thinking with its rubber feet and ample weight it may make a good doorstop.

I too had virtually the same problem. My machine is only two months old. When I first bought it worked great. Then I started having water drip everywhere, steam coming out all over the place. It would take 4-5min to heat up milk for frothing, wouldn't froth. KRUPS website is horrible. Very little information, customer service hard to get a hold of.

So what changed? What is the solution?

Two things first when I bought the machine it came with the automatic frother attachment installed. After trying this method a few times, I wanted to try the manual attachment to see if it would do better. So I switched it by removing the screw underneath the attachment and then inserting the new attachment and putting the screw back into place.

I can tell you I was unhappy with the results. Tried this a couple of more times thinking it was just me. I got fed up and put back in the auto frother. Now this wouldn't work either. I was frustrated wanted to throw out machine!

Contacted KRUPS they told me to bring it in to a service center to checked maybe faulty.

Here's what they discovered:

The machine itself was working 100% within manufactures specs. They discovered that where the you insert the screw through the attachment and onto the machine there is supposed to be a small black rubber seal that goes with the screw into the attachment so it makes a good seal and all the pressure is then directed down the frothing tube. Without it its a mess! When chaging attachment sometimes this rubber seal is jammed inside the attachment so you don't even know its there (I know I didn't), and probably will eventually fall out and lose as in my case. They replaced the seal at no charge. Its maybe a 10cent seal at best.

I am happy to report that I am again making great frothy cappucino's. Everything works wonderfully!

I used this espresso maker daily for a bit over a year and then intermittently since. I use the frother almost every time and the entire unit still works perfectly. If you keep it clean and follow the instructions for maintenence you shouldn't have any problems. I love it. It makes great espresso and it saves money on my trips to coffee shops.

As another reviewer experienced, our Krups also leaks coffee all over the counter and subsequently the floor quite often, which is apparently related to having to have the carafe situated in just exactly the right place within a half a millimeter, and which place I have not yet discovered except occasionally by chance. Carafe positioning appears to be the problem, because it doesn't leak every time. Maybe my unit is defective, because other reviewers don't mention this, and believe me, you would notice this if it were occurring with yours.

The opening to pour in water is relatively small, but I don't have a huge problem with it. Be aware there is no automatic shut off. It makes a fine cup of coffee for this non-coffee-gourmet, and I don't have a problem with spilling when I pour from the carafe into a cup. But the leaking is forcing me to find another machine.

I wish I could find a reasonably-priced, non-leaking 12-cup machine with removable water reservoir, no-drip carafe, programmable, auto shut-off, easy-to-find replacement carafe and removable filter basket but alas, even on amazon.com, that machine does not appear to exist. My sister has such a machine (Mr. Coffee URX23), but that model has been discontinued.

This machine makes great coffee. I love the filtration system. The warming and shut-off features are excellent. After more than a year of steady use, I've noticed that when I remove the carafe, coffee does drip on the plate. Now before I make coffee, I apply pressure to the hinge and it works fine.

My wife has had hers for almost four years now(4yrs Aug.) and loves it. I know it is good cause in the old days with old coffee maker mornings were HELL. Now all is well. This why I'm buying her another new one, the water pipes in our new place have excess rust and the minerals sitting in the tank overnight have caused her coffee to start tasting funny by her. She loves the auto timer. So now we'll get bottled water and another coffee maker of the same. I have found that she likes the coffee best when I grind the beans extra long so they are really fine. She says this allows for a better steep time and thus more flavorfull coffee. I don't really know as I don't drink it, I just know what makes her happy. That is why I would recomend this coffeemaker and will be buying a new one as soon I'm done here.
