Motor Burned out on 4th useI purchased this model and had it for 2 or 3 weeks. Used it 4 times and the motor burned while juicing apples on the 4th use. I purchased it from Caplan Duval in Montreal (buyer beware) and was led to believe since I'd had it such a short time, I could return it and pay for the upgraded 800JEXL. After talking to a different salesperson, I was told I would have to have it repaired or I could contact Breville and ask them to exchange it for a 800JEXL. I am waiting on their response but will not be holding my breath. Very very unhappy with Caplan Duval's service as well as the poor quality of the Breville JE-95XL motor. I've since researched the internet and found this to be a recurring problem with this model.
Seems like a great product, but...I have not yet received my juicer because I did not order it from Amazon. I'm military stationed overseas, and Amazon will not deliver to me, despite the address being no more costly than any other destination (the military ships all mail from New York with no additional postal charges).
It seems like a great product, but I'm disappointed that Amazon can't figure out how to ship it to me. People get tires and vacuum cleaners shipped here through good ole US Postal Service, but Amazon can't ship me a juicer.

Could not be more pleased. The JE-95XL is everything it is advertized to be, fast, easy to take apart and clean, efficient, and very well crafted. I was even impressed with its packaging. I compared it to another juicer on TV and some store bought juicers under $200.00. None of them compared in product quality or price to the Breville. I chose the late shipping method from Amazon.com and got the Breville for $104.99., brand new. Thank you Amazon.com, I will be back.

Spend a little more and get something elseAfter 2 months of use, this machine started to leak. I can't find where the leaks coming from but the problem seems to be worsen everytime I use it.
I always use fresh filtered water, and clean the machine after each use, so I think may be the one I got is defective... Also, the pump seems to be very poor quality. 7g of espresso tamped with about 30lb of pressure gets me about 3 drops of extraction. if I don't tamp, I hardly get crema.
Overall, it was waste of money in my case. I'm shoping for another one now...

So far.. averageI must say that I'm not an expert on expressos nor expresso machines. But so far, with the right grind and the right tamping you get a fine expresso. I've just bought the machine so I'm still getting there.
The problems that I've found are 2:
1. When trying to make a cappuccino I haven't been able to find the exact point to get the frothed milk with the cappuccino accessory.
2. When using the big filter to make 2 cappuccinos, I don't know if I should wait 50 seconds or the double expresso should come out after 25 seconds. So I just wait 4 oz. of expresso to come out and then I turn it off. I would like to know so I can get better expressos. That's why I play with the tampering to brew double expressos.
Finally, I'm giving it 3 stars because I'm still having some problems, perhaps when I become an expert on the machine I'll be ready to give it 4 or 5 stars.

Great Machine When Used With CareI've read several reviews good and bad on this unit. I can't comment on machines that are actually defective, but I have learned some tips that might account for disappointing experiences by other owners.
Tamping is probably as important as getting the grind right. Since Krups provides no tamper with its machine and finding a tamper that fits is rather difficult, I suspect that many folks have had to improvise and this can easily lead to disappointing results, especially when you combine this with never having tamped espresso before.
1) The tamper size is 53mm which is hard to find because most are 50 or 58mm. Being warned in previous reviews, I experimented with the least pressure, graduating to firmer and firmer pressure and found one that works right every time. (It is true that too tight a pack will block the puck from passing the brew.)
2) Getting the right grind is all important and it's very easy to overgrind. Even the best of home grinders can make too fine a powder if left on for just a couple of seconds longer. Looking for some granularity and avoiding the powdery appearance is key.
3) Expect the puck to be consistently soupy if ejected too soon after a brew. If you wait about five minutes or so with a spare cup under the filter holder, the puck will drain and allow removal without a mess.
4) Cleaning. I try to clean the filter holder, filter, head gasket and surface within about 10 minutes of my last brew (and also between consecutive brews.) Coffee does a number on rubber or plastic-rubber seals, so I always use a dishrag with soupy but very mild detergent, then rinse a couple of times.
I've had great success with this procedure and consistently good pulls without explosions or mess.

Great when it worksI have the chrome model bought 4-'04. Very sleek looking, heavy (no tipping), pierces cans easily, cuts cleanly and has an excellent knife sharpener. Had to have it repaired after a few months because the handle was loose and would not activate motor. Same with the sharpener. Worked for a while and now handle must be repeatly pushed up to coax it to work and the sharpener does not work at all. 5 stars when it works but a great disappointment. Not what I expected from Krups.

Poorly Designed and weak performerI have had this unit for approximately 6 months. It has not lived up to expectations. The auto-cappuccino device produces lukewarm milk (at best) and requires constant cleaning to prevent clogging. The drip tray fills up quickly. I have had to replace the filter basket as it has become inoperable. A note to Krups outlining my concerns generated a boilerplate response telling me to return it to the nearest service center. I am very disappointed in this item and will now question any claims by Krups about their products.
