I had the Krups fast touch grinder for 12 years and loved it. It only finally died because I cleaned it with water. I replaced it with this Krups grinder and it makes a huge mess. The stainless steel design seems to cause an excessive amount of static electricity so the coffee dust goes everywhere. I've put up with for about 6 months and today I am ordering the original fast touch which is still available in black and white.

As with all plastic grinders, static is a problem.

The plastic broke on my unit very quickly.

Any kind of blade mill grinder is going to result in uneven coffee grounds, and it will be impossible to get a fine grind. For $10 more you can get a cheap burr grinder, which gives better results (flavor!)

You can get a nice coffee maker for $30! Just use a regular blender to grind your coffee beans OR find a cheaper coffee grinder. But anyway I don't grind my coffee anymore, I just buy it already ground. It's just a lot easier.

This is a very good basic coffee brewing machine. I have the Solea Time version which includes a programmable timer. The brewing temperature is near the ideal range (about 190 degrees F, checked with an instant thermometer), therefore, it produces good coffee. I like the compactness of the machine and nice curvy design. Like all Krups, the urn is conical, double walled, and easy removable for clean-up. My unit also came with a gold-tone permanent coffee filter. Programming the Solea Time is very easy. There's no trick to it.

One thing I was annoyed with is that the carafe it came with does not come with cup level markings. It's just clear glass. you have to estimate the amount of fresh water for brewing. Luckily, the water level indicator on the unit is easy to read.

The hourglass shape attracted me to this coffeemaker -- it's so charmingly different from the old rectangular one. When Joe DiMaggio stopped advertising for that other brand my husband finally allowed me to buy a Krups and I loved it. When the time finally came to replace it, the brand wasn't the issue (I like Krups a LOT), but I wanted something that looked different. This is it.

It's not only attractive, it works well. The handle is comfortable and the water level indicator is slightly magnified so it's easier to see than other models. It heats quickly, quietly and efficiently.

It makes a great cuppa Joe, too!

I purchased a 404, because I had a manual opener that works the same ($12) but I provide the power. Loved it, bought my girl friend one. Two or three months later my girl friends 404 started tearing up the side of the can lip and not opening the can. Mine followed suit a few months later. The cutter seams to have lost it's cutting edge. The only thing that seams to be the problem is steel cans. But that should not break the 404.

I loved it when it worked! Mostly I found it lacking in reliability. Getting it to secure was dificult and it quit working altogether in short order. Never again.

I decided to read the reviews on the Krups Open Master can opener, just out of curiosity. I'm on my second one, and I've had it for longer than the oldest review on Amazon. It's my second one, bought sometime back in the mid-90's. The first one I owned quit working properly because I broke it, due to carelessness on my part. Even when it didn't work properly, it never left "shavings" in or around the can, and it never "chewed up" the can. The only thing I can think of that might be causing the problems people are writing about is where the unit is made. Mine was made in Mexico. If these newer ones are made in China, perhaps that's the problem.

I purchased one for my son, essentially because he asked for one as a Christmas present after he moved away from home in 1998. The only complaint he has is that his didn't come with the nifty wall holder. If he has any other complaints, I haven't heard them.

In all, I'm like a lot of the people here, I feel that it's the finest can opener made, and whole-heartedly give it my approval.
