If potential kitchen fires are your best part of waking up..I bought my first Krups Cafe Express about 8 months ago from Bed Bath & Beyond. I was looking for a small coffee maker b/c I have a small apartment & don't drink much coffee, so this one was perfect. It worked great for the first 3-4 months, until one morning I went to turn it on & the on/off button not only fell off, but sparks and smoke blew out the place where the button once was. I returned it to the store and exchanged it for another one, exact same model (I really like the coffee maker), yet again 4 months later the button popped off and out came sparks and smoke. So needless to say I won't be buying another, it makes great coffee and it fits well in a small kitchen, but this manufacturing flaw makes it really not worth it.
Doesn't Get Hot Enough !Nice coffeemaker, good features - it just doesn't get the coffee hot enough and I will be replacing mine.
Only OK...I find the coffee is pretty decent, not great. But the worst thing is that the coffee never gets hot! I always have to nuke it in the microwave, especially after pouring milk in it (even after waiting for the burner to get hot).
I love the small design, it's very cute. I don't find it hard to clean and I haven't had problems with things coming off. Seems like a case of 'you get what you pay for' - I'd say it's decent for the price, but if you're a real coffee fanatic this isn't for you.

designed to have to be replaced again!I'm a long time user of the Caffe Bistro combination coffee-and-espresso maker from Krups. I love this machine, but I'm not so fond of the attachment necessary to do the frothing. Maybe it's just me, but I tend to misplace the little black cap at the top of the attachment, and once that happens, frothing becomes a lot less efficient. Which then means an extra $15 shelled out for espresso foam. There are greater tragedies in life, to be certain, but this one is distinctly irritating.
Back to the old frotherKrups has been installing a hard plastic cover on the frother wand of their recent models. This technology is neither as effective nor as resilient as the old "perfect froth" attachment. My hard plastic one broke within two weeks, and sending it back to Krups elicited no response at all, so I just bought the "perfect froth" attachment, and it works fine.
Great itemThis is exactly the replacement part I wanted. It's a great way to froth milk.

Good coffee...cheap plasticOther reviewers have complained about the carafe. We just broke our first after one year of use. That's pretty average for our family.
My complaint is with the all-plastic construction of the coffee maker. The lid you must open each time to fill the water and coffee grounds is made of plastic. One hinge snapped off within the first week of use. The unit has continued to make very good coffee but for this price they should use better quality materials.

Yes, it does have design flawsEnjoyed reading reviews of the design flaws of this coffee maker. I agree with the user who says she doesn't use filters. Neither do I. My water is already filtered. (You can get the filters at some stores, ie Bed, Bath and Beyond.)The flashing light is very annoying, resetting the unit is a pain. An important note about leaking carafes. I have had my unit for about ten years, so I have had several carafes. Some carafes leak no matter how slight an angle you pour at, except for dribble. Other carafes do not leak even if you tip the pot to 90 degrees. This is a quality control issue. With one pot, my mother would always pour it all over the counter, when she visited, no matter how many times I showed her the dribble angle. Also, the lid of my unit is showing signs of aging after all this time, so it has a slight warp, which causes the top to sometimes not sit properly and for water to leak out onto the counter top. This is an annoyance, but, hey, the thing is ten years old. Overall I have found it to be a long lasting and reliable coffee maker, despite the design flaws, and I would have to see some convincing data before I replaced it with another model.
Excellent PurchaseLike the delicious coffee that this model Krups (467-71 Crystal Arome) makes. Use of machine is simple, cleans easily, is almost intuitive to use.

Great product - but no replacement parts are availableThis Krups citrus juicer is compact, powerful and useful. It is wonderful for fresh lemon and lime juice for spectacular fresh margaritas, as well as the usual orange and grapefruit juice. It is easy to clean, but also easy for a new user to accidentally discard the juicer cone into the trash bin when emptying the pulp tray. This is especially true of the black version, you may not notice that you have dumped the black cone in the trash. No replacement part is available, either online or from Krups. I had to buy another machine (a white one!) for the part. If the part ever becomes available, I'll have a citrus press gift for someone. I'll give it with the recipe below!
Fresh maragaritas
1 part fresh lemon and lime juice macerated overnight with 1/4 part sugar and grated zest
1 part tequila, blue agave, reposada
1 part triple sec
1 part crushed ice
Shaken and poured over another 1 part crushed ice in a salted glass

Solid product that is easy to cleanMy husband and I purchased the Krups citrus juicer when we went on the Lemon Juice diet. This little machine made squeezing lemons a breeze. I really liked how easy it was to clean. The body of the machine stays secure on granite countertops and the motor is strong enough to get every bit of juice.
works very efficientlythis product works very efficiently, squeezes all sorts of oranges dry. works alright with limes, and smaller citrus fruits.

Bad product, worst customer supportThe second time I used this machine the handle broke off the espresso pot. My wife called into customer service and they said that was unfortunate and as a 1 time courtesy they would replace the espresso pot if we sent a copy of the receipt. We faxed in the receipt showing that the machine was less than a month old. Now 3 months have gone by and I still don't have the replacement. We emailed Krups a week ago but they haven't responded. Buy some other espresso machine!
Good coffee, good espresso-a little tricky though...I am a self-confessed coffee junkie. With or w/o the caffeine (pregnancy and such) I love the taste; and the taste of the coffee that I've brewed with this machine was great. Loved it, loved it, loved it. The machine was easy to use and looked pretty darn cool sitting there on my counter. The only issue that i have is that the espresso side seems to need some encouragement. The knobs need to be fiddled with a bit in order to get the espresso to start dripping (even after 10 minutes during a holiday party full of thirsty coffee drinkers). Thought that was just b/c my machine was so new, but it's been doing that ever since the first use. Still, it's not terribly difficult, and the coffee is oh-so-yummy!
Great coffemaker for the priceI love this coffeemaker. It is quiet while it brews and takes only a few minutes to make an entire pot. I don't use the cappacino portion too often, but I like having only one machine on my counter instead of a coffemaker AND a cappacino machine. This is a very nice product. I would highly recommend it.

Coffee doesn't taste wellWhile I save the expense of filters, it just doesn't give me that clean taste of coffee that another more metallic brand of permanent filter gives me. In fact it has the look of gold colored nylon versus the more "solid" golden filters of other brands.
Cleaning it is a bear, not so much getting the stains out, that works well enough, but it takes a lot of water to finally purge the filter of grounds that accumulate in various nooks and crannies.
But it's still probably in improvement over the paper filters.
Krups gold coffee FilterI love it. It saves money because I don't have to buy the paper filters and it's washable.
No ProblemsI've been using the gold tone filter since day one and I haven't had any problems. I use both pre-ground and home-ground coffee. When I grind coffee for my Krups coffee maker myself, I try to match the grind of the pre-ground coffee. I use a larger grind for my French press and it still has more sediment than coffee made with the gold tone filter. Perhaps I am not a coffee connoisseur because I haven't noticed any metallic taste. I also love to put my filter in the dishwasher.

For $29.99 at ROSS this was a great deal!I can't believe anyone would have trouble operating this thing.
Turn the knob forward for brewing and backward for steam. How hard is that? My wife's the coffee fiend, and now I'm the Espresso Prince for giving her pleasure!
It's a cinch to clean too!

Great machineI was given an 872 krups espresso machine and really like it. I have been buying my latte's but now make my own and they are great. I love lots of froth and this machine does the trick for me. I use 1% milk, sugar free flavoing and they taste just as good as the professionals. I am happy. This was a used machine and had hard water build up in it. I put vinegar through it a couple times and then clear water several times and all is fine now.
I love mine so much I bought 1 as a giftI have had this model for several years and just love it. I grind my own beans pack them lightly in the cup poor in the water and thats it. I like a latte and the milk foamer works great. A little experimenting is required to get the air mixture just right but this is NOT a drawback from the machines design.
I can make a latte ect. just as good as starbucks. I like lots of foam in mine and this machine is easy to use and very economical too. It takes little to no skill to operate. I wouldn't waste money on a more expensive machine when this one works just as well.
Replacement parts are available here on amazon ( if you are concidering a different machine, make sure parts can be obtained as with some mfg. are nearly impossible to get).

RussI really have to say that it does not make the best cup of coffee. And this surprises me because the last coffee maker I had was a Krupps and made the best coffee. But this one really doesn't. I have been making many pots now waiting to for it to "break in" and start making better coffee but it is still only medium. The coffee is a little on the watery side for my taste. Another review who says this is a good machine is comparing it to a Mr. Coffee which I think is a good comparison. they are in the same league although this is better than Mr. coffee but not by much.
There is a peculiar feature too which I should tell you about, should you purchase this model. There is a button to press when brewing more that 4 cups. However the instructions say to press it for 1-3 cups. Uncovering this took a phone call to customer service. I was driven to eliminate a variable which may have contributed to my less than great coffee. Still left with bad coffee. I would find another model.

Yes, the coffee is goodThis product makes excellent coffee, and I suppose that's the important thing, but I have a few issues with it:
The outside of the box says the carafe is dishwasher safe; the instruction book inside the box says they recommend you hand wash it. It gets nicely clean in the dishwasher and takes no damage, but the top of the carafe has to be popped off the body if you want them to separate for easy placement; I see wear already on the little nubs that hold the lid on, and I'm afraid to make taking the lid off a constant practice.
It has a lever you can flip to make the coffee grounds container pop out, but it really doesn't work very well. It's easy enough to pull it out by hand, but if they have a gadget, it should work.
There is a water filter that you don't have to use; but if you use it, it needs to be changed every couple of months and it's not cheap in the long run.
The opening for the water is not as big as on most coffee pots, and you need to take care when filling it to avoid spills.
The worst of my problems involve the water level indicator. When I first got the machine, the tube was poorly seated at the bottom, and it leaked a little. Easily solved, right? Indeed. I removed the wee, tiny, little, minuscule piece of plastic that held the top of the tube and watched as it popped right off and fell into the sink and down the drain. No biggie; my fault. So I removed the tube and reseated it; and then it didn't leak. I used tape to hold the top in place until I could write Krups for a replacement minuscule piece of plastic, which I did promptly; a couple of months, and I haven't heard from them.
Water level indicator, chapter two: So it was usable, but from the beginning I had noticed that the water level indicator was highly prone to getting bubbles in it so that you couldn't tell what the level was. Inconvenient, and it didn't change when the leak was corrected. I lived with it. As of about a week ago, I apparently acquired some sort of blockage to the indicator, because now it rises so slowly that the morning would be over before we got coffee if I depended on it. Since nothing but plain water has ever gone into it, and descaling didn't help, I am at a loss. I'm now using a measuring cup to put water in the reservoir.
I am tempted to send the whole thing back to Krups and ask for a new one; I'm waiting for the level of minor irritation either to build to the do-something-about-it stage, or to provoke me into buying a different pot altogether.
But it does make excellent coffee.

Finally great coffeeFinally real coffee. After several years of using Mr. Coffee,
I'm glad that I paid a little bit more to have this fantastic and stylish Krups coffeemaker.
Originally, this brand is from Germany and that already stands for quality. The coffee therefore is european, which means: hot and strong. The measurements are also european, so you have to take a smaller cup or brew a bit more for your own size cup of coffee.
While we have well water, so no chlorine in it, I thought I didn't needed a water filtration system. But it surely made a difference, because the taste is very good.
The carafe is drip-free and very easy to take out and to handle.
I also liked the swing out filter basket. The filter
basket itself can easily be taken out, by pushing the soft release button.
I use filter paper and, while discarding, I noticed that the filter and the grounds are much dryer (european style also), so it's a clean job to do, compared to the old Mr. Coffee.
I do not use the 1-3 cup button a lot, since I always make more, but the few times that I did use it, it also gives a great cup of coffee. It nearly is as good as the coffee that we make once a day with our Senseo, which is one with pods.
If you truly love a good cup of coffee, I'm sure you're going to love the coffee that this Krups makes.
