good with bad Delicious waffles, 4 at a time, handle is hot, hard to know when waffles are ready, hard to clean
Do you want a great Waffle Maker? We tried several waffle makers. That includes the professional Wells brand you see in restaurants. If you want a great waffle maker then go to Williams-Sonoma and get the Kitchen Aid Professional one. First, there are no cleanup issues at all. I mean zero. Second, it makes two at once which means eveyone eats hot waffles straight from the waffler. Third, it cooks 'em perfect every time. The only possible negative is the cost at around $350. Yikes. However, if you buy from Wiliams-Sonoma you get their customer service and that means you can return nearly forever if it has a problem. We recently returned a kettle two years later with no questions asked. We also use the Classique Fare Beligian Waffle Mix another reviewer metioned. We tried about 20 different mixes.
Nonsensical red & green lights - easy to forget & burnIt makes great waffles. Preheat, and mist top & bottom with canola oil (I like a refillable pump). Then pour the batter in the center and it distributes well by flowing naturally. It makes good waffles. To avoid damaging the non-scratch surface, use a plastic fork or the tool that comes with a George Foreman grill. If you preheat with a mist of oil, and remove the waffles not prematurely, they should not stick. Also if your recipe has some oil in it, that helps. I love how it stands up in the cupboard. I have always lifted the handle by the plastic clip, so no complaints about handle temperature.
MY COMPLAINT -- The red and green lights make no sense. Red means it's the correct temperature and Green means busy cooking - don't open yet. But the lights are not labeled, and if you make waffles infrequently it's hard to remember which light is which. Also when the Green light turns off, it's time to open and remove the waffles, but that's the only indication you get. When the Green light turns off there is a very quiet little "pop" sound but if you are busy setting the table or frying bacon you will NEVER hear it and end up with burned waffles.
KRUPS -- Please make it beep when ready, and also consider building it round because batter flows evenly in a circle, not in square shapes.

Not ImpressedAfter I used this thing I sent it back and got a refund minus the shipping. On its coarsest setting it was still way to fine a grind for a press coffee maker. The thing also has a tendency to gum up. I was not impressed.
For fresh coffee use a burr grinderI got this grinder to use with a Bodium press I got at Amazon. I would like the grind to be a bit more course but it still works with the press. Perhaps this is because I only set the grinder for 3 cups for a 12 cup press. Any more coffee is just too strong. I guess my wife and I are just typical Americans. The grinder is not too noisy. There are times that I have to shake it to get the beans to start going again but to me this is not a big deal. The grind is consistent and the timer accurate.
To save money what I do is buy beans in bulk at Costco or Sams and store the unused beans in a vacuum canister. I take out a weeks worth and re vacuum the rest. This way the beans stay fresh over time.

It depends how you make your coffee...This grinder seems well made, and I agree with the positive comments of other reviewers, but if you're making drip or press coffee it may not suit you. The coarsest grind is ok for my cone-filter drip machine, but just. At the coarsest setting the least you can grind is 5-6 Tbsp - fine for a small pot but too much for a small press. That said, for espresso and larger quantities, it's teriffic! The small degrees of adjustment allow you to find the perfect grind.

Received 2. Both Leak from the top.I received two of these for Christmas. I tried them both. Both leaked liquid from 3 different spots when turned to pour. Also, the plastic tops had touches of gray, worn-looking plastic on them. I returned them both and bought 2 of the Zojirushi Champagne Gold Series Tall Thermal Carafe, Herb Cacao Carafes instead, which work great.
Thermal CarafeThis carafe is Great!!!!! We love coffee and bought it so we have extra coffee on the weekends without needing to make a new pot right away. Keeps the coffee warm for hours without the disgusting "cooked" coffee taste of regular glass carafes, and it's very light-weight.
Hassel FreeFound exactly what I wanted for the best price, and shipping was timely. Quick and Simple

Carafe exploded after only two years!I loved this coffee maker for two years. Then, this morning, I found the glass thermal insert inside the plastic carafe had EXPLODED. I was shocked--shocked! Turns out this is a common occurrence for this machine (check out the feedback on amazon.com for the carafe alone. Lots of us have looked into buying a new carafe after ours spontaneously combusted). It seems I was actually lucky to have mine last for two full years. Krups "consumer support" told me I should not used a sponge to clean it. That is ridiculous. Suffice to say, you can see the pictures of my carafe on this website by clicking the "costumer images" link under the machine's photo above, and I suggest that if you respect your money you buy a different brand.
Worked well till it lastedIt made good coffee except on days we did not seat the filter and caraffe perfectly. After six months thermos blewup. I am not inclined to replace it . Changing Carafe twice a year will make it as expensive as Star bucks!
Rocket Science?I don't think so!
Piece of cake to program the timer you weenie. Love the sounds of waking up to this beast brewing my morning Joe. The Thermal Carafe is awesome. I had to carry a full pot over to a friends the other day. My hands were full and I didn't feel like making another trip inside, so I tucked the full carafe of hot coffee under my arm and off I went...too cool! The size of this thing is kinda bulky but it looks sweet sitting on the kitchen counter...and yes, it makes a great cup of coffee! This has been a very nice and long overdue step up from my Senseo (okay for one person but now that I'm livin' with my HoneyBunny...)
Two problems
1st...the top on the carafe has a tendency to cross thread. Sometimes takes several tries to secure.
2nd...my Braun #4 gold filter doesn't quite fit because of the odd shape inside the brewing resevoir. Perhaps a Krups 049 or one of the other brands mentioned by my fellow reviewers. Currently we are using unbleached paper filters that are being composted after use. Let the EcoNazis put that in their pipes and smoke it!

FINE SO FARNICE BIG OVEN. TOASTS JUST FINE SO FAR (about 1 mos). HAVE NOT USED IT FOR BAKING EXCEPT TO REHEAT PIZZA-FINE JOB. LIKE THE DIGITAL DISPLAY.
Very Nice Toaster OvenI bought this toaster oven in May 2005 and I have been very pleased with its performance and dependability.
First of all, it's just nice to look at. I'm in the kitchen frequently, so appearance has an important value for me.
Second, I like the digital read-out and the formats for selecting the differenty functions you want to use (baking, toasting, time and temperature settings).
Third, I can hear the finish bell when it rings (there are five "dings" and I can hear all five).
Fourth, I like the time-remaining feature when the toaster is selected (I can tell if I have enought time to go the bathroom or take out the trash before the toast is done).
Fifth, I like the fact that the interior temperature is measured and the time adjusted accordingly when using the toaster when the oven is still hot from a recent previous use.
Overall, this toaster oven has met all my expectations and if it malfunctioned I would immediately replace it.

great applianceWe use this oven almost daily for toast and for baking french fries for my ultra picky four year old. It is hands down a better machine than my old Black and Decker. Even though it is much larger than my old one, it doesn't take up much more counter space. I like the count down timer, so the oven never stays on if someone forgets to turn it off.
The toasting cycles are a little off -- I end up doing the cycle twice usually. However, the toast is not dried up and is quite tasty. If cost is a factor, the Black and Decker is certainly good enough -- but this is a definite step up in almost every way.

Looks great, but as a toaster much to be desired.I should have simply repaired our old toaster that worked well, and reliably, for eight years. Too busy, first I bought a Braun toaster (looked great, had major problems actually toasting), then I bought this Krup toaster, and guess what, it looks great but has trouble actually toasting. Starting with the first piece of toast all is well (hence two stars instead of one). However, after the toaster is warmed up, the timing/heat regulation becomes totally useless. You have to toast, toast again, toast again. Fancy digital count-down-timer doesn't help much at that point! In researching toasters, did I mention I should have repaired my old toaster when it broke, I read a review where it was suggested that 'toasters have been around a hundred years, it can't be that hard!' I thought it funny at the time, but having now spent over $150 on two worthless toasters I find myself saying "toasters have been around for over a 100 years, it can't be that hard!" I hope Braun and/or Krup don't make medical devices or we are in trouble.
Great Toaster Most of the TimeI bought it because of the Consumer Reports review of the lesser non-LED model. It makes great toast. I like the way it easily handles odd shaped pieces of bread.
My problem is that that the toasting times do not stay the same for a given setting. Example: for setting #6 the time is sometimes 2 minutes 10 seconds and sometimes it's 1 min. 44 seconds. Of course the toast is not done in the lesser time.
Maybe it's just a flaw in the unit I have. Otherwise it is just fine.

A Step AboveVery happy with this toaster. Having a LED readout for settings and the timer is surprisingly handy. Well worth the extra money!
