I was sorry to see that after ordering two of these duo coffee pots, neither was satisfactory. The coffee filter area will not lock into place, therefore, unless one is extremely careful, your coffee will brew onto your counter top, not into your carafe.

... I certainly would. I paid $150 for this machine and it worked a few days past warranty and died. When I called Krups, after emailing and getting the response "call us", I was asked to send the receipt to them, which I did via FAX. No response.

I called them back on my won and was told, we are sorry you paid this outrageous sum for a coffeemaker you believed would last you as much as a decade but we're not going to do a thing about it other than keep your money and tell you to ship it to one of our authorized dealers and pay them to have it repaired yourself.

Someone please tell me why I would sink another $100 into ANY Krups product, let alone this one?

I will never again purchase a Krups product, believe me.

It was delivered very fast - i had it the next day. and the product is working well.

No lid!!! Rather spend the money on a brand that thinks before selling 1/2 of a replacement piece.

The pot itself is the same one that the coffee maker came with so I was very satisfied with that aspect. I knew prior to buying (by reading the other reviews) that the item DOES NOT COME WITH THE LID which you need. Luckily I had my old lid still but really who does that...sell the replacement in two parts? Apparently Krups does. Because of this once my coffee pot bites the dust I will never buy another Krups product again. Both because of the pot and lid being sold as separate items and because there is no mention of this essential bit of info in the description. Thank God for the reviewers.

i have had my krups machine for 5 years and have had no problems. i have found that the carafe does not bounce when dropped from the cupboard.

This product is attractive and works efficiently; however, my unit produced toxic smelling water the first 5 times I tested it out. I will try a metal electric kettle next.

Customer below wrote that the tea pot gave toxic smell. It says in the instructions that you have to boil the water twice before you use it to get rid of the new plastic smell. Most of the electic tea kettles require it. I boiled the water twice, and when I made myself a cup of tea there was no smell what so ever. This tea kettle is very comfortable, easy to clean, and it boils water very fast. This is my 3rd item from Krups. I just bought the Convectional Toaster Oven from them and I like it a LOT! Much better then microwave!

I had my first machine for 5 months - a gift from a friend. When it started to let steam out all over the place, I went out and bought another one. I thought I was just unlucky with the first one. It also only lasted 5 months like the first one. I cleaned it - vinegar etc... like the instructions said - no luck. Steam came from everywhere. It would not warm the milk anymore. I took it back. Never again.

do not buy this. the steamer stops working in a month and it cannot be fixed. cleaning doesn't help at all, even after carefully following the instructions. very cheap, no good.

First of all I would give it zero stars if possible. This is the worst thing we have ever bought. Our first cup was fine. It started leaking right after that. Now it won't even brew the expresso. It is leaking down the sides. Spend the money on a good machine. And yes we got two sets of expresso grounded very fine at Starbucks and it still does not work.

What a huge disappointment from Krups! We have had many fine Krups products over the years, but this is definitely not one of them. Our major problems were: the unit does not make warm coffee and does not keep it warm, even when preheating the cups as suggested; it constantly leaks into the drip tray, an average of 1/4 cup of liquid with each cup made; the foaming/froth attachment spits water into the milk, thereby diluting it and also cooling it down. And the company you receive it from tried to talk us out of sending it back when we called to learn their return policy. We still have to see if they will even accept the return as they strongly hinted they may not. Very, very disappointed, do not waste your time and money on this product.

Got this machine for Christmas... Used it without problems for about two weeks: Pulls decent espresso shots with the pressurized portafilter baskets. I havent tried e.s.e pods yet. The milk frothing is the main weakness of this machine: when the steaming function has been turned on for about 30 seconds, (yes: it takes longer than that to steam milk on this machine :( ) the steam tip (cappuccino acsessory) is "fired" off of the machine because of the pressure. This action sprays almost boiling milk all over the user/room/anything in a four foot radius. Also, the tip lands in the hot milk, which creates a hazard: The user of the machine must fetch the tip. VERY DANGEROUS. I have called Kraps (i mean Krups) about the problem, and they said that they would send a replacement part... It has been three weeks, and the part has not arrived at my house.

Bottom Line:
-Decent Espresso
-Horrible frothing
a. Takes way too long due to poor boiler pressure
b. Frothing tip is blown off machine, spraying hot milk everywhere.
-Terrible customer service

For the money this item is great. I never made an espresso or a capuccino in my life. I wanted a machine, trusted Krups, it arrived, I opened the box, read the directions and made an espresso and capuccino as well. I think people make too big a deal out of these tools. The machine is heavy, well built, works fast, the steamer works great. Well worth the money.

Similar to other reviews, I have had trouble finding filters. I also own a Krups Mocha Brew and they use a Size 1 round filter which is only avaiable online for $5/ box of 100 plus shipping and handling. This is a lousy way for Krups to do business, not making filters widely available. It would deter me from future purchases.

I believe that the reason why some people are having difficulty finding these filters is because the coffe makers, Crystal arome (model #398) and Crystal arome time (model #458) have been discontinued, these filters fit those models. But as someone else has mentioned you can buy the filters on-line. Simple solution.

I am not sure where these people are looking for filters. Generally, I find they are available through higher end retailers like Macy's and Bed Bath n Beyond. Here is a little secret. You can order direct from the company!!!! All you have to do is read your owner's manual and the phone number is in there. Magic! Problem solved. I believe the filter is an excellent idea and Krups is a great product. I am sold!

Our Krups 199 was a wedding gift two years ago. We loved it--until this morning. See the "2 consumer photos" linked above? That's my coffee pot. It's the same story you've read from the other six people. I contacted Krups and they informed me the Krups carafe in this machine is particularly delicate--you aren't to even use a sponge to clean it! I was told to wipe it out with a cloth. Gross. Suffice to say, if you don't like your fresh coffee to taste like moldy, stale coffee, go spend your money on another machine and carafe.

I purchased a Krups thermal replacement pot for an electric coffee maker. About two weeks after I bought it, I made coffee one morning only to discover the coffee running all over the floor. For no apparent reason, the glass inside of the thermal pot had completely shattered. I will be returning the pot this week.

All I can say is, the new carafe hasnt exploded yet. What I originally thought was a freak occurance is obviously a serious product design problem. (Why is the inside made of glass?)My original carafe lasted about a year and then randomly exploded during cleaning. I think I put cooler water in the carafe after it recently had hot coffee in it. From reading the other reviews, this is a common issue but I bought another one anyway!!
