Bought this after losing the old one (same size) in a custody dispute. Yes, a KitchenAid mixer is worth fighting for. Only negative is that this model (5 years newer) is not the same quality as in the past. Still works just as well - the construction is just cheaper.

I really wish people would read the instruction manual before complaining about things.

Yes, the mixer starts off slowly. This is called the soft start feature. it is intentional. The idea is the mixer starts slowly and ramps up to full speed. This keeps the ingredients from spraying all over the place.

Yes this mixer is louder than older KA mixers. It has an all metal gear set and they are louder than the older mixers that have a nylon gear.

I make on average about 6 loaves of bread each weekend, stiff French and Italian style dough. This mixer has never bogged down, quit or failed in any way in my use for nearly one year.

You will love the spiral dough hook and the wider bowl.

I own quite a few mixers, 38 to be precises(OK, I am a little nuts) and the 4 I uses regularly the Pro 5+ is the one I use most. You will be pleased. But please, read the instruction Manual.

I did not have a chance to see whether it performed well or not, because it worked only for about 15 minutes.... While the turn-table is still working, the mixer is dead....

This is the best mixer ever! It works beautifully and looks great, too. If you are in the market for a mixer and don't want to deal with a heavy metal one, this is the mixer for you. I seriously love it and it looks really nice on the counter as well. The two bowls are very heavy and they are big, I'd say 4 quarts...but the unit isn't huge. This is a great mixer for the money!

I've been lusting after a stand mixer with dough hooks, etc. for years. I have pointed them out to my husband and told him that was what I wanted for holidays, b'days, anniversary.......etc. NEVER GOT ONE!

I ordered this one with some Amazong gift cards and an AMEX discount deal. I knew it was a KILLER deal and I was right!

I have the black and love it. It looks great on my counter. It does the job beautifully and I have made more cookies, banana bread, etc. in the past 2 months than I had in the past year or longer.

I did learn a lesson though........it can NOT handle a double batch of a banana bread very well. That was my fault for even trying it though.

It is not a high power turbo mixer but has more power than your standard hand mixer.

If you want a stand mixer but not sure how much you will use it this is a great way to try it out. Then you have an extra on hand for small jobs, extra cookie batches or to give to someonelse to try.

The professional 5 qt. series has a wider bowl than the regular 5 quart. I was given no info. that it would not fit this model. I was dissapointed as I feel this attachment would be helpful

The shield does come in handy, but only sometimes. I don't use it everytime I use my mixer. For a lot of things it is useless. But it works perfectly for gradually adding dry ingrediants. It is great for gradually adding flour to make a dough.
The shield is also GREAT for when kids want to help mix ingrediants, keeps little fingers far from danger.
The shield splits in two parts, which tend to fall apart easily. It was done this way, so you can lift up half of the shield and scrape around the edges of the bowl, without having to completely remove it. It is a great idea, but it makes the shield very flimsy, and falls apart easily.
It is not a must-have for your mixer, but if you makes lots of doughs etc, it is well worth the $15.

This pouring shield works great to contain splatters. In parrticular, I appreciate having it for whipping cream or large batches of batter. It is also helpful to add ingredients using the 'pouring section' of the shield when the mixer is on or when the bowl is in the 'up' position.

Even if you already own the food grinder don't waste your money on the pasta attachment. Since this is more of an extrusion pasta maker, the pasta does not get the nice thin texture that is necessary in fresh pasta. I made lasagna noodles from this attachment and had to roll out every noodle by hand after it had been extruded because it wasn't thin enough.

If you love fresh pasta, as I do, you would be better off buying the actual stainless steel, traditional pasta roller attachment for your kitchen aid. It is more expensive, but well worth the extra money. I use this attachment all the time and always get the results that I am looking for. When my husband purchased the pasta attachment it came as a set with the food grinder. The food grinder is awesome.

This attachment is easy to use and, more importantly for homemade pasta lovers, it is easy to clean. It's made of durable plastic resin and and comes with a space-saving storage design. The biggest drawback is that it comes with pretty boring plates: Two types of spaghetti, macaroni,lasagna, and egg noodle. Would have been far cooler if they had included plates for a large gauge rigatoni and a fusilli.

We received our pasta plates in a timely manner. Although there was one plate missing from the package, a telephone call to a representative of the company brought the plate to us immediately. The whole process of ordering was quite pleasant.

Love it, Love it, Love it, beautiful red hot color, it's like a piece of art sat on my kitchen countertop. I've tried several recipes, my cakes been the most successful rising to new heights and lightness, also my British scones came out a treat a hit with the whole family. I encourage anybody procrastinating over buying a KA mixer ...go for it! it's a worthy investment. I have also just purchased the Mixer Bible to increase my repitoire of recipes, but basically all your oldie but goodie recipes will work just as well if not better using your mixer. I'm considering buying a grinder and icecream attachment, so I can make some of the yummy recipes in the book.

This mixer was for my wife. It replaced a 15+ year old mixer with limited capacity. She baked two different items within 3 hours of delivery for our family and friends. Enough said.

The machine is top drawer. The only problem with the delivery is that it came in clear plastic so anyone could see what it was. I believe it should at least be covered in brown paper. Other than that, the item is in perfect shape and was the best price I could find by at least $25, thanks to the amazon $25 coupon... free shipping and no tax, I believe.... awesome!

Very well constructed.Does it's job protecting my mixer from kitchen grime. My only complaint is the lack of color selection.

Some folks complain that this cover is too big, but it really has to be a little big. It serves the purpose well.

This cover, like all Kitchenaid products, is very well made. The material is very heavy and durable. It's not the prettiest thing I've ever seen, but it does keep the dust and junk out of my mixer. I have the smallest mixer and this cover fits pretty good. It might fit the next size up as well, but not any larger I wouldn't think.

I just really wanted to believe in a myth: that KitchenAid is all about sensible, durable, dependable appliances. Or that KitchenAid is serious about its "hassle-free" policy. Because "hassle-full" seems to describe my experience with the brand much more accurately.

I originally purchased a 300-Watt tilt-head mixer, but after about three minutes mixing a small batch of bread dough for the very first time, its dough hook snapped broken. Customer service wasn't very good, so a few months and several complaints later, I received this larger unit as a replacement.

Unfortunately, this supposedly sturdier unit hasn't held its own either. The dough hook is still in one piece, but the mixer itself (the motor) has broken down three times already, despite my best care. I never mix for more than five or six minutes at a time, and only use speed 1 to mix bread dough. Moreover, I never exceed the maximum load of approximately 14 cups; in fact, all the bread recipes I make total no more than about 8 cups of wet mixture -- less than 12 cups of ingredients, wet and dry. (My recipes come from either The Bread Baker's Apprentice, by Peter Reinhart, or Bread - A Baker's Book of Techniques and Recipes, by Jeffrey Hamelman, both well-known books with very carefully tested recipes.)

The first time I took the mixer to the repair centre, it took them a month to return it to me. The second time, it was returned after 10 days, but worked for all of 40 seconds before breaking down again. And the third time I only got it back after 41 days. Mind you, those repairs were all covered by the warranty, performed at an authorized repair centre. I got a six-month warranty extension, but imagine what it'll be like when the
warranty has expired...

So, just to recapitulate, in one year I was unable to use the mixer for more than two months, time during which I had to put up with a lot of hassle in what seemed to be a futile attempt to get it properly fixed -- to say nothing of my disappointment with the fact that a KitchenAid mixer has broken down three times already with small batches of bread dough during its first year of use.

I bought the high priced, high power 600 a little over a year ago. I use it less than once a week to mix relativel soft dough (6 cups of flour) I just took it back for repairs for the third time, always the same thing, the plastic gear housing splits open and all of the gears have to be replaced.
This mixer is a bad news item.

I grew up learning how to bake with my mother's KitchenAid tilt-head 5 qt mixer from around 1982. When I got married, my parents gave me this 6 qt model and I absolutely adore it. I tend to make heavy breads at least 2 or three times a week in this mixer without any signs of problems. The only complaint I have is that the attachments are not dishwasher safe. Take it from me, it was not a pretty sight when I realized my husband had put the dough hook through the dishwasher! (Although I guess I should be thankful he loads the dishwasher at all. hehe)

Overall, I feel the quality of the machine is not as high as my mother's old machine. The knobs feel a little more flimsy, and some of the attachments (like the flour shield) are definately not as sturdy-feeling. And if we're going to shell out hundreds of dollars for this thing, I really think KitchenAid could go the extra mile and make the attchments dishwasher safe. On the other hand, I definately feel that the KitchenAid is the highest quality home-use mixer on the market today. I've taken other brands for a "test drive" at various stores and friends' homes, and you could definately feel the difference between the KA and others.

Plus, it's rather comforting to see that familiar white hunk of metal sitting on the countertop. It almost makes me feel like a kid again, waiting at the kitchen table for my mom to finish the brownies so I could lick the bowl. :)

ways to juice! Was excited about this attachment, but found it awkward to use. Slow and juice will run down your arm unless you hold the citus just right. For large amounts found myself cleaning strainer quite often before I could proceed with juicing process, can do large amount of juice with my other juicer without pausing. Used this a few times but found my small electric juice was quicker. IMHO better to put your money with a better juicer. Will give away this attachement to anyone who wants to try it!!

I needed something that was faster than what I can do by hand and not too expensive. This juicer fits the bill. The only draw back is that it still takes some effort to press the fruit on the machine in a horizontal fashion. This can be tiring if you are juicing more than several oranges.

I rate the attachment 5 stars because it attaches well to the mixer unit, turns as it should, and washes easily.

Now for some objective comments...

1. Effort is still required to squeeze the citrus fruit onto the spinning juicer arc.

2. It still takes awhile to get juice for a breakfast of 4--if there's time savings to be had with this device, it's not as great as you may think.

3. OJ is quick, but large grapefruit take time, especially if you are straining a lot to remove pulp.

Item was not the one ordered, I returned it and the reolacement you sent was also incorrect. I returned this second item for credit. You had placed your sticker with bar code over the manufacture's bar code and your label was incorrect. I hope you correct your error before you send several custmers the wrong item

Bought this as a replacement beater for my Kitchenaid mixer. The newly purchased beater began to chip within 4 months.

It was just what I needed. I inherited the mixer but it didn't have the beater. So now I have one and it works perfectly.
