KitchenAid 600 Series Mixer
Makes delicious bread! This is an outstanding mixer. I don't think it's terribly loud, as I have seen in other reviews. The design may have changed or it could just be that I mill my own flour in an impact mill, and the mixer seems very quiet compared to the mill! I also have 4 children, so I'm fairly desensitized to noise.
I got the mixer primarily for making bread. It is rated for 14 cups of all-purpose flour, but the manual says to only use 8 cups of whole-grain flour (2 loaves). I make 2 loaves of whole-grain bread at least once a week, usually twice. The spiral dough hook does an excellent job of kneading, and the mixer has plenty of power to handle the whole-grain dough. Just 8 minutes of kneading develpes the gluten so well, that I only have to raise the dough for 30 minutes in the bread pans and then bake it, and we end up with delicious, light, fluffy bread. I can make bread in less than an hour and a half, including the time for kneading, rising and baking. (We live over 7500 feet in altitude, and I have seen recipes that call for up to 3 rises of yeast bread at high altitude, but that is absolutely not necessary.) I used to use a bread machine, and produced many "bread bricks" with it. Since I got the KitchenAid, the bread machine has been retired.
We have mostly just made bread, but also have used it for cake, gingerbread, and whipped cream. It had no problem with any of those, as I expected. There is one major design flaw, in my children's opinions, and we discovered it when 2 of them were helping me make a birthday cake. They were very distressed when they realized there was only one beater to lick! That is our only complaint so far.
We also purchased the meat grinder and used it to grind at least 30 pounds of beef, elk, and turkey into burger. The mixer had plenty of power to be up to the task.
I am very pleased with the performance of this mixer and don't think anyone would regret purchasing it.

Splurge! You'll be happy you did.If you're thinking of buying this mixer, go for it! I originally bought this model in white and I loved it. I am glad that I got the 575 motor. It can really handle those large batches of dough. I bought this mixer about 2 years ago and I have never baked so much! It is so easy to make that cookie dough now! This mixer can really handle it. It used to be very difficult for me to mix the dough when I had to do it by hand, but now it's no problem. I whipped up some cream for a dessert on Christmas and it took about 2 minutes!! It was so quick.
I gave my daughter the white mixer and I purchased this one to add some color to my kitchen. I like the color. It's not fire engine red. It's more of a brick red, which I prefer. I leave it out on the counter because it is so beautiful and having it out makes me use it more!
I used a coupon that I found on www.currentcodes.com and I got an even better price. The discount, coupled with the free shipping is what persuaded me to buy it at Amazon rather than QVC.
As far as the noise, I don't think it's that loud. With a motor that size, I guess we have to expect it to be somewhat loud. It doesn't bother me! I love it!

Remanufactured KitchenAid Accolade 400 Stand Mixerbasically said this is an great machine for a good price. not some cheap plastic junk.
No problems so farI got this mixer to replace a Hamilton-Beach hand/stand mixer I received as a wedding present in 1959 (still running, still working!) because of its good reviews and convenience. I was not disappointed. This mixer stands on my counter, is available all the time, is more powerful, mixes better, runs smoothly. I got some attachments this week for my birthday and hope they will prove to be as satisfactory.

Not as scary as other reviewers sayI received this as a wedding gift, along with my Kitchenaid mixer, around 11 months ago. After reading all the reviews I decided I had better try it before my warranty is up if it was in fact going to destroy my mixer. I was extremely nervous about it sticking, about it burning up the motor, about making a complete mess of my kitchen, and about wasting time. Granted I did have my husband helping me, but nevertheless I think it was way easier than others described it, and in the future I think I could do it myself (just turn off the mixer when you need to separate the noodles). You have to follow the instructions exactly-sift the flour, lay the noodles down to separate, etc. But otherwise after a couple of tries we got the hang of it right away. I've never used any other type of pasta maker, and I haven't used the meat grinder, but found this attachment to be much better than others have stated.
Good machine but missing partsThe item in itself is quite wonderful with the exception that the wooden food pusher was missing from the food grinder attachment. A replacement was requested but the wrong set was sent, the pasta maker only and not the food grinder which contained the missing part. I gave up as going back and forth to the post office to mail returns is not straight forward. This is not Kitchen Aid's fault of course but the suppliers - Amazon.
That said, the actual pasta maker is excellent, easy to use and clean and makes really good pasta. I prefer to use an Italian cook book for the pasta recipes rather than the booklet which came with it as those recipes seem to be a bit dry. The food grinder part grinds meat quickly and efficiently and again is easy to clean. You do need to make sure you follow the manufacturers instruction and allow any excessive fluid to drain before proceeding. This can cause liquid to work its way into the motor and short it out if ignored.

SOME GOOD, SOME NOT SO GOODI bought this product because of its dual function of grinding food and extruding pasta. The thought of having the ability to grind my own meat (always better tasting!)had great appeal to me as well as being able to make fresh pasta. I have used this item for both several times and I am completely satisfied with the grinders ability to grind meat. I have read reviews from some that this function of the grinder was not worth the money or the effort. I disagree. I have had NO PROBLEMS grinding meat. The key is not to overstuff the grinder itself. Cut the meat in strips (not cubes) and, one at a time, place them in the feeder chute and the grinder will feed itself. There is not even any need to "stuff" the meat down into the auger. In other words, follow directions and the grinder plastic housing will not break (no need to even put weight on it!), nothing will back up into the mixerr housing itself, and the meat will not become clogged in the feeder. A little patience will go a long way to adding life to this product.
The pasta plates are a little different story. While it is fun to make different kinds of non-flat noodles, and the dough extrudes just fine through the plates, it is difficult to keep the noodles from sticking together as they come out. I have to say, however, that I had the same problem with my manual pasta roller and cutters. Maybe making homemade pasta is quite an art? I'm starting to think so.
Want to grind meat?? Get this. Want to make pasta?? Beware.

NOISY!! Use ear protection. Otherwise the appliance works great.
I upgraded my 20+ year old Kitchen Aid 3.5 Qt. stand mixer, which still works, to this 6 Qt. model. I gave it a thorough testing, with my family's favorite cookie recipe which inludes 13 cups of dry ingredients - oatmeal, chocolate chips and such. This recipe has a very stiff heavy dough. It is wooden spoon breaker dough.
When my old mixer tries to mix this recipe, the dough spills over a bit from the top of the 3.5 qt bowl, and the chips stay mostly on the outside, between the dough and the bowl.
So I knew this was the perfect test recipe.
The 6-Quart bowl has lots mixing space. The dough came close to the top of the bowl during mixing, but did not spill over. I used the lowest speed to mix in the chocolate chips. The new mixer handled them gently and mixed them thoroughly. Every cookie had chips in them, down to the last bit of dough left in the mixing bowl.
The noise of the mixer is loud. It is the loudest appliance I have ever owned. If you are running it for a long period of time, for example, a stiff cookie dough, or the flour mill, you will most likely need ear protection. I do not have a decible meter in my kitchen, but I suspect this appliance exceeds the level recommended for home use. I did call KitchenAid customer Support regarding the noise, and was told yes, it is noisy, they know that, that it has been reported as sounding like an airplane's jet engine on a runway about to take off. (I might add that airplane's jet engine noise sounds like it's coming directly from the tarmac, and you are standing beside the engine during engine testing.) I was told the metal gears and the cooling fan are the reasons the Professional 600 Series 6-Quart Stand Mixer is so noisy. My old mixer is running on nylon, it seems.
Well. Perhaps the KitchenAid Engineers need to research out some noise dampening material products like the ones they use in their dishwashers.
