I live 90 miles northwest of Houston and found 'fun with guns' review convincing. We live in a 1-bedroom apartment with the air conditioner in the living room. A guest was staying in our living room and we wanted to be able to close our bedroom door at night. We tested the situation without a cooler and the bedroom was stuffy and hot; outside temps 'cool down' to about 75 F at night with high humidity (Texas!). So I bought the Sunpentown ($98 w/shipping). This thing looks nice, easy to move (comes with rollers), and is relatively simple to use and fill. I've found that if I run the cooler (i.e. the pump that circulates water around/about the fan), heat is generated at the back of the unit and our closed bedroom was too warm and felt damp. But if I just run the fan (medium) and keep water in the resevoir, the blown air is cool and we can sleep comfortably all night, with the door and window closed. This was kind of surprising but it works for us. We've only had the thing for 2-weeks so I couldn't give it a 5-star (hey, it's gotta' last!) but so far I'm really pleased with the investment.

I bought this small swamp cooler to supplement my regular air conditioning in my bedroom, which has huge picture windows and heats up like a green house. Since I live in Virginia, with high humidity, I didn't expect this little cooler to do much. But I am amazed at how chilled the air feels and how much cool air it puts out. Even though the building air conditioning hasn't been turned on yet, this small unit is making my bedroom comfortable at night. I am very pleased with it, and with Sunpentown and Air Purifer's very forthcoming customer service. They were very responsive to my queries.

I live in Houston where it is 90% humidity most of the time, outside...I knew these "swamp" coolers wouldn't do me much good as a replacement for my A/C, but that wasn't what I was looking for. I wanted this as a "helper" to boost my cooling in my back bedroom, since inside the house the humidity is only about 40%. This thing works great. I had a fan in the room before and all it did was blow warm air in my face. I put this item in the room next to the bed, filled it up and added some ice...5 minutes later, 15 degree cooler air blowing on me...great... I only had one problem, that is, now my wife wants one on her side of the bed, looks like I will be placing another order....

This is not so much a review as a cautionary note.

I've done a lot of research on filters and the such since my son tested positive for exposure to lead.

Both of the reviews of this filter (I have this or a similar Honeywell which is great but I am not sure which model.) Anyway, both of these reviews mention vacuuming the filter(s) to extend the useful life of the item. IF you are using a HEPA filtered vacuum, and only if you are using a HEPA filtered vacuum, should you think of this. But the cost of these filters is not so great that this makes much sense.

If you are not using a HEPA filtered vaccum, than all you are doing is sucking the stuff you don't want to breath out of the filter (which is what you bought the machine to do in the first place) and blowing it back into the air (which is what you boght the machine to prevent.)

Basically, the few bucks you save is not worth the risk.

HEPA filters were developed by the US Atomic energy commision to remove radio active particles from a contaminated environment. So they are more than sufficient for removing dust, mold spores, cockroach feces and dust mites which have been known to cause respiratory problems such as asthma.

Don't go by the light on the your Honeywell unit to tell when it's time to change the filter because the manufacturer wants you to change it as frequently as possible. When you find that the flow of air has slowed down and dust in the vicinity of the unit tends to collect more, then it's time to change the air filter. Also, vacuuming the outside of the filter may prolong the life. I vacuumed my HEPA and found that there was an increase in air flow afterwards and less dust collecting around the unit.

Before ordering a replacement HEPA filter for your Honeywell (or other brand) Air Cleaner, be sure to check the model number on the unit. This filter is for the smaller round unit (Model 10500) and for the smaller of the two upright units with handles (Model 17000). I replace my HEPA filter every year because I am very allergic to cigarette smoke, pollens, dust, molds, and other allergens and irritants. Also, this HEPA filter has pre-filters that wrap around it, so you may want to order a box of those, too. The pre-filters should be changed every 3 months, but I check them more often and vacuum off any accumulated pet hair.

As previous reviews said the sound on high setting is similar to a humidifier, but the air quality in our rooms is noticably fresher. I was looking for a good dog dander, dust, and pollen air cleaner without replacable filters and it needed to circulate the air. This one has fit the mark and I have noticed considerable less dust on the hardwood floors and furniture in our home and thank god it smells a lot fresher in here. In a house with 3 adult guys and a Great Dane who all have allergies this air purifier for under $200 gets 5 stars.

Have used on low speed for two months (some noise) and we feel better and the dust is not on the furniture now. Regular house filters only stop five to ten percent of dust. Putting in a better house filter could damage your AC from loss of air flow. My reserch showed this unit to be the best buy overall.

I got this filter because my wife is allergic to our cat. We've tried the top of the line Sharper Image filter costing more than twice as much for 2 years that did just about nothing but did it quietly. This filter is noisy except on the low setting but even at the low setting, it keeps the air clean, a fresher smell than the rest of the house. Both my wife and I noticed the results immediately. We wake up with our sinuses clear, something we haven't felt in a long time. Because of this I order 2 of the smaller ones for other parts of the house, can't wait to put those in use.

This filter works well to clean the air, but it has a musty odor that can be offputting. Im guessing the company sprays the filter with some kind of antibacterial element to prevent bacteria from multiplying, but i think that smell could possibly make people sick.

I was surprised how well the True Air 04381 air cleaner
work, using this 04712 Filter, considering it's not even
a HEPA filter. I notice the fresh air in a newly remodeled,
dusty, fumey (new paint, new carpet) room after turning this on.
After just 1 month of use in a small room, the filter is already
light grey - so it's working!

I am returning my fan through Amazon, after an infuriating three weeks of trying to get help from Soleus through their customer service. My fan arrived with a smashed remote and they would not even tell me if I could get another one--just kept forwarding my requests to somebody else--while my Amazon 30 day return guarantee was ticking away. They are a lousy company.

This fan is made of the shodiest pieces of junk. Cheap badly painted plastic just waiting to break. It looks really junky. Even the romote doesn't have the direction indicators for the batteries...

Worst was the performance.. After a few hours of use the fan started to make loud clicking sounds and a few hours later the fan stopped oscillating from side to side..

It's not worth letting into your house..

I bought this fan 2 years ago from Phoenix and it is still going strong! Its quiet and unwaveringly loyal. I bought my 2nd one just the other day as a gift for my son in Seattle. He enjoys his as much as I enjoy mine. The remote is a big hit with us both. If I can I'm going to send a 3rd one to my sister in Seattle. She is in a studio apt..this fan is perfect.

Yuck...so disappointed. This big bulky thing makes your house smell like you're trying to hide a dead body. Seriously artificial, harsh and unpleasant chemical scents - not just one disk, but all three I tried.

On the plus side, it does a good job of blasting the stink throughout an entire house in minutes. 20 pine tree air fresheners hung from a celing fan would be more pleasant.

Just got the scentstories yesterday and used it once. It is a great player, however I was expecting a little more.
It seems that while the player is playing for 2.5 hours...it is great and wonderful. I was thinking that the scent would linger a while when the unit had shut off...at least a day or so. I am disappointed that I only get the smells when the unit is turned on.

That is my only complaint. The unit does provide instant smells within a minute of turning it on.
Who knows, maybe after a few more uses, maybe the scent will linger for a while.

Other than that...this a good product.

OMG! I love my scentstories machine so much (Thanks Mom). This thing is the best. My whole house smells so good and I love all the different discs and scents you can get. The discs really last a long time too. I can't wait to get the holiday one at Christmastime. I highly recommend this product if you are thinking about getting one.

Our dorms don't include AC, so I needed to get something for my dorm room. Bought this one, and it's been great. It takes up a minimal amount of space, and is easy to carry around. Cooled my room very nicely.

Great unit, cooled my room quickly. The wheels make it easy to move, too, and you can feel the air from pretty far away.

Air Purifiers were recently reveiwed by Consumer Reports Magazine. They are quite ineffective and can be dangerous to your health. For further info, read article in Consumer Reports.

I just bought this air purifier recently at the recommendation of my dog's vet. He's a small dog and has bad allergies. I noticed the effects of the purifier almost immediately! My dog has not sneezed or hacked since I plugged it in. Also, I noticed that I no longer wake up with headaches in the morning.
The purifier is really easy to clean, you just have to remember to do it every 5 days or so. I just wipe it down with a cloth and let it dry for a few hours and then I can turn it back on. Overall, I am very happy with this product and am extremely happy I bought it.

I have one of these already for almost two years. I have notice less dust I have it in my bedroom. When I clean it black always comes off the grids. I am putting this one I bought downstairs
I think it works just as good as the Sharper Image does for less
money. You really need something to clean the air in your house.
