After reading dozens of reviews on dozens of heaters, I gave up and ordered what looked good. So far, I very happy with this one. Although assembly was indicated, it came fully assembled. It heats my son's bedroom (10 x 12) in very short order and it takes the chill off my living room (16 x 22). I switched to a pellet heater as my primary fuel and there are some areas of my home that just stay cool. I'm confident this will do the job on all but the coldest of days (Mid-Michigan). The directions are easy to understand and the remote is simple to use. The only drawback is the LED panel is super bright for my sleeping preference (great nightlight for a kid) and when the timer (max 7.5 hour) shuts the unit off, it seems to erase the preset room temp. It then defaults back to 75 degrees. Could be I haven't figured it out yet but either way, that's a minor thing to me. Overall, I think I got a good deal on a good heater.

The Soleus Reflective Heater gives instant warmth, almost too warm if not in rotation mode, very bright.

I've had the lamp for three years and find that it's my best portable heater. In the beginning, I found the bright light annoying, but have learned to overcome this by placing the heater behind me or to the side. The features I like about it are that it begins heating instantly and intensely. It's great for heating up just where I'm watching tv in my cold sunroom in the winter and uses a lot less electic than the room heat pump. While I'm lying on floor cushions, I have the heater to the right of the tv, aimed especially down and at my feet. The light is no brighter than the regular floor lamp that I have next to it. I think the cheerful light also helps me dealing with seasonal affective disorder (winter blues). I'm hoping I get a few more years use out of this marvel.

I love this heater. We also have an oil-filled radiator type electric heater. The Soleus is superior in every way. The plug on the radiator heater gets hot after an hour or so of use but this one doesn't. And it warms you the instant you turn it on.

My husband complains a little about the brightness but it doesn't bother me at all.

I purchased this unit when my old humidifier died. This sucker is so loud, when it's on you can hear it from anywhere in the house, and I have a big house. It roars.

I purchased another (different brand) today for another area of the house. It's a 65 pint unit, better temps than the Whirlpool, and it's so quiet you could sit it next to the TV and it wouldn't bother you. It's like night and day between the two units. I would suggest NOT buying the Whirlpool due to the excessive noise. In fact, anyone who would like to buy my unit should contact me. I've got to get it out of the house. I can't take the noise.

Like the previous reviewer, I went with Whirlpool because of brand loyalty, not a good decision. This product is unbelievably loud and clunky-sounding(rattle-metal-on-metal). When I open my basement door it sounds like there is a jet aircraft in my basement. The unit does work as advertised, I have no issue with its performance, just can't get past the noise.

I've read nothing but good reviews about this unit from consumer-type magazines. However, when I read the negative review on this site, I decided to buy the dehumidifier (cheaper!) locally in case I needed to return it. I have had the unit operating in my basement for a week now, and have found the sound volume no louder than my prior dehumidifier (a 13 year old White-Westinghouse). The volume is comparable to a small room air conditioner, and is easily drowned out by my washer or dryer which are also in the basement.

Admittedly, Whirlpool must have redesigned the unit, because although the model number is the same, the housing looks different than in the photo. This may have reduced the noise.

Overall, I'm very pleased with it. I'm not giving it 5 stars yet, because I haven't had it long enough to determine its reliability and low-temperature de-icing capability.
