I purchased this vaporizer over a year ago and it's AMAZING! Not only has it been helpful when my daughter (now 3) has been congested but my husband and I also have felt relief from cold symptoms as well. The only down side (in my opinion) is that the lid that covers the vaporizer pad is a little flimsy and broke when my daughter got a hold of it. Also, best to place it where the little ones can't reach it....the vapors leave a residue on the lid of the unit and if you get them on your hands and then touch your eyes, nose or face in general it can be quite uncomfortable....my daughter and I have both done this (unintentionally, of course). But all in all, if using all the appropriate safety measures and with proper handling this is a GREAT value for your money. The vaporizer pads are easily found at local drugstores and it's so compact that when it's not in use I can store it in a dresser drawer (I store mine in a zip-lock bag to make sure none of the vapors touch anything else). The unit emmits enough light to count as a nightlight in my daughters room....which I love, so I can monitor her more closely while she's sick.....I usually go in her room and check on her several times a night when she's ill. I would have to say, however, that the light is a little bright for my husbands preference....he prefers to sleep in darkness. But the unit is completely silent and has 3 different "strength" settings so you can get a mild to strong vapor depending on your need and preference. I love this unit and will likely buy a second when our new baby arrives....just in case they're ever both sick at the same time.

This waterless vaporizor is amazing. I have always had problems with congestion and it used to drive my mom nuts when I'd run the vaporizor all night only to wake up to sweaty walls. Any dust in the air would then run down the walls and leave dirty streaks. All that humidity also ecnouraged mold growth which just made it even harder to breathe.

If you don't want to wreck the paint-job in your children's rooms or if you have mold allergies, you simply have to try this waterless vaporizer and the pads. Yes, the pads are single use, but they do last all night. They have that same soothing, theraputic Vicks aroma you've always known.

The less than glowing reviews below are comparing apples and oranges. If you need steam, then get a personal steam inhalor to use. The days when people thought it was healthy to steam up a room over and over again are long gone. Keeping the humidity level that high for so many hours promotes the growth of mold and other mirco-organisms. In addition, keeping a room that wet night after night can damage your bedding and draperies and leave water droplet stains on your matte finish walls. Steam is great, but there are better ways to use it than an old fashioned vaporizer. Vicks now makes some great personal Steam gadgets as well.

The waterless Vaporizer gives you the benefit of the Vicks vapors that consumers have relied on for years. A unique blend of Eucaplyptus, Menthol, Camphor and other oils, it's more potent than most generics or competing brands. If your child won't let you rub vapo Rub on their chest, this is a great way to give them the same effect. Of course, I'm an adult and I still depend upon this product to help with my terrible snius headaches.

The waterless vaporizer is fantastic. Choose from hi, med, and lo settings and, other than the glowing nightlight, you'd doubt the machine was on because there is zero noise! I'd turn it off when I left for work and 10-12 hours later would arrive to a light, fresh scent throughout the house. Replace the used scent pad and the vaporizer is ready, set, go.

This mid 15th century courtesan "neck attire" is making a comeback in certain parts of Europe, namely underground gay discos. If you don't wish to wear such excessive garments then this also can be used as a wasp colony starter kit. Simply add olive oil and watch the colony begin to grow in about a year. Can also be used as a hat in certain pompous balls, or as a flea cemetery, or as an elephant snout warmer.

The wick was easy to remove and replace with the new one. It works like new now.

Using Amazon.com's Free Shipping w/ a purchase of $25 or more came in handy when ordering this product. I had to order 4 (at the cost of $7.99 ea) and it was well worth it.

Living in NY the filters need to be changed on a constant basis, and with an unbeatable price (other stores charged almost $30 for one!) you can't go wrong!

The filter is wrapped with a convenient plastic handle which allows you to change the filter without getting wet or dirty. Very easy to insert and remove into my humidifier.

I highly recommend using this product. My only complaint is that the box it arrives in is somewhat flimsy, but a little bit of scotch tape and you are set. Doesn't even register as a setback in my book!

Quiet,pulled alot of water. The first one broke within days so store exchanged. The second one worked great for one season then would run but never pull any water. Company discontinued and have to find a new one but it won't be Bionaire.

Mine has been working non-stop for 14 months now. It is much quieter than other dehumidifiers, because it has a turbine-like fan and a new cooling technology. It also seems to produce less heat than other dehumidifiers, although it does warm up the air (that's unavoidable). The only problem that I have found with this machine is the placement of the humidistat. The sensor for humidity is located inside it and gets dried out pretty quickly. As a result, the dehumidifier underestimates the humidity of the room, turns itself off too soon, and then will not turn itself on once the humidity goes up in the room. This is not a problem for me, because I need it to run non-stop. However, it would be a nuissance if you require precise control of the relative humidity.

This has been a great purchase for us! We have an approx. 1100 sq. foot finished basement that was beginning to feel very humid. The humidity was running around 55% all the time in the summer and not much lower in the winter. This machine has brought the humidity down to 40-45% all the time (in the summer) and the basement now feels dry and comfortable. It is QUIET, easy to use and attractive. We have a humidistat accross the room from where the machine is and the humidity readings match so we find it to be very accurate. I would definitely reccomend this dehumidifier!

The year's supply of filters costs much more than the unit. Note, however, that you can get them from the holmes site for cheaper if you buy a larger pack - four filters cost around $50.

Nothing much to say except that these are nice filters. They are the only ones that will fit the holmes air filter systems and they are a bit pricey, but there's really no other choice.

This purifier is far from silent, but this is perfect for us because we wanted a white-noise maker as well as an air purifier. The unit has been reliable for the past several months, and I have discovered that hose-vacuuming the permanent outer filter and also the replaceable filter means that you don't have to buy new ones so often. The filter seems durable and apparently all it needs is to have the dust sucked out of it now and then, so it can go on filtering. (After I vacuumed, the red warning light did not come on again and the unit has been working fine ever since with the same filter in it.) A consideration when weighing up the cost of the filters, perhaps.

Pretty expensive considering these little paper wicks will last you about 2 months until they start smelling and looking really bad. I recommend opting for a "wickless" humidifier. I ended throwing these out along with the humidifier for the new Vick's humidifier which is has the option for a warm or cool setting.

I tried a Haier 65 pint and it was louder on its low setting than this one is on its high setting. The Haier also started short-cycling after about 5 days of operation. After that bad experience, I spent a couple of hours reading every review of dehumidifiers I could find, and decided to go with the Soleus based on the fact that it was supposed to be the quietest. WHAT A HUGE IMPROVEMENT over the Haier!

I would give this model 5 stars, but it has these "deficiencies" when compared to other models:

1. No temperature and humidity display. Ok, I agree, it doesn't affect the operation, but it's one of those things I did like about the Haier. Granted, on the Haier, all the display did was show me that the thing stopped working.

2. The hose connection needs to be punched out and is not a threaded connection for a garden hose, although my garden hose slips over the connection just fine when I cut off the hose end.

3. The unit does not return to "on" after power goes out. I really wanted this feature so that I could put the unit on a timer to run for x hours every day.

4. It's not Energy Star rated. It is only 330W though, which is much less than other similarly sized models.

In summary: Don't waste your time with all the other models available. The Soleus works fine and I can't hear it in the next room even when the fan is on HI.

PS: Look around and you may find a deal like I did. I paid just 139 at a big box.

I decided, just before the summer heat started, to buy only one air conditioner for my bedroom and a dehumidifier for the living room to provide some comfort. Believe it or not it works great! At least this brand does. My living room has 10' ceilings and is approximately 400 square feet (including a kitchen.) The room is still warm especially when the temperature reaches 80, but there is no discomfort. The only down side is the warm air released by unit. The living room cools off as long as I have my Vornado fan (best fan in the world) blowing cool air from the bedroom to living room.

I purchased this dehumidifier for mainly basement use, but wanted one quiet enough for use upstairs if needed. And, boy is this thing quiet. My refrigerator is louder. I also own a Fedders 45 pint unit and a Whirlpool 65 pint noise maker. The Fedders (Maytag) was the quiet champ untill I purchased the Soleus Air CFM-40E. The Whirlpool removes an amazing amount of water, but can be heard UPSTAIRS when running in the basement. So it is used only when needed. The Soleus Air is so quiet I have to go down the basement stairs and visually check to see if the unit is on. Can't say that for many dehumidifiers. My only complaint is that the fan is always on, even when it has reached the set humidity level. This prevents the short cycling the others do, on for 2 minutes off for 2 minutes or so, but I think prevents an Energy Star certification. At 2.9 amps it draws significantly less than the Fedders 5.6 amps and the Whirlpool's 7.9 amps.

The Soleus Air works great (so far) upstairs in the spring, when it is cool but damp, like the weather this week. Here in Wisconsin it is in the 60's but rainy, so the house is humid. Running the central air is not necessary since the house is not hot. So I use a dehumidifier, which makes the house seem less clammy. I would recommend the Soleus Air CFM-40E to anyone who is looking for a small, really quiet, relatively light, medium capacity (40pint) dehumidifier that simply does what is supposed to do (remove water from air) with out excess noise.

This is the 2nd time I have ordered this product through Amazon.com. I have a Hamilton Beach humidifier and need the replacement filters for it to run efficiently. This filter works fine and does the job that I need done.

I am quite pleased with Amazon.com and the timely way that it gets product to the consumer. Thank you for that.

to be honest, i could NOT find any other store besides amazon.com that sells this product.
this filter is of course mandatory if you own the hamilton beach humidifier 05518.
in my opinion, this filter works great and i feel comfortable replacing it about once every three month. (otherwise, too expensive! $$$)
when you are using these filters for a long period of time, please be careful not to dry it up. when the filter is very dry, it will crumble and you will see whitish plastics flowing inside your humidifier water pool.
so always flip the filter when you refill the water and let it never dry!
for a best use, i recommend you to get several of these filters in case they go out of stocks forever...

The filters last for 2-3 months for us. Simply add bacteriostatic treatment to the water in the tank. I get it at WalMart. It keeps bacteria from growing in the water. We've been using these for 3 years now, and have never had an issue with smell, algae, or mold. I love them!

I can't believe that Amazon actually requested that I write a review for this item as THESE ARE THE ABSOLUTE WORST FILTERS and the actual TRUE AIR unit was a COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY. You are lucky to get 2 WEEKS out of each filter before it falls apart. The unit never gets up to the desired humidity (and all I ask for is 50%). The description says to change the water once a month- We have to refill the thing TWICE EACH DAY. We are currently looking for another unit (different manufacturer, of course)I suggest you also find another unit before you spend another dime on these filters!!!! also please note that a previous reviewer said she/he purchased 3 filters to alternate- THESE ARE DISPOSABLE AND ARE NOT MEANT TO BE DRIED OUT AND REUSED!... unless you are trying to kill yourself or someone you "love" with Legionaires Disease...

This filter has not been replaced since we bought it in January. If you turn it over every time you refill the water tank, the filter does not get as discolored and lasts longer.

I've read review after review saying that these filters don't last any time at all. But as long as you follow the advice and let the unit dry out every few days (we don't refill it one morning and let it run while we're at work to dry) then it stays perfectly clean, usable, and lasts for months before needing to be replaced because it's absorbed too much dust or gotten blocked up with hard water deposits. The humidifier has been a lifesaver. The only problem I find is trying to get the filter in place since it comes shipped flat, and is hard to get shaped into place to get the fan mechanism back over it when it doesn't want to maintain a round shape.

I got this humifier thinking I would be able to get away with filling it every other day. I keep it in my bedroom which is really really small (i'm in nyc, we're talking SMALL) and even when running it at full throttle the humidistat never got up past 35 other than when I showered with the bathroom door open. I was still refilling it about every 22 hrs and yet still wake up every day thinking someone has been stuffing my head with steel wool, although that was an improvement from the when I didn't have a humidifier and thought someone was pouring crazy glue into my sinuses every night!

Filling the tank is a pain, doesn't fit in a sink so have to lean into the tub and hope I don't topple forward and smash my head against the soap dish. Also, the cap is so secure that I end up hurting my knuckles every single time I open it (and I swear, I'm not a wimp).

I thought about returning it within the first week but there aren't too many alternatives I would even consider and I figured I shouldn't expect a humidifier to be total perfection. So, I kept it and no sooner had I thrown out the box then I ran into my next problem...

The filter. I was actually surprised that it lasted as long as it did (almost 3 weeks) but could have been cuz I used my vapor steam cleaner on it once a week. So, now that the filter is history I've hit my tolerance level for being annoyed; been to a handful of different pharmacies and hardware stores and can't find a replacement! Sure, I can order a bunch of them online and be set thru the winter but I think if I'm gonna invest big bucks in filters, that I might just try to design my own "perma-wick" (like the hunter care free type) and see how it goes from there.

We purchased this humidifer for our baby's room, and so far it has worked quite well. Ours has no problem reaching 50% humidity, unlike problems mentioned in other reviews. The only time it did not humidify properly was when the filter needed to be changed. We changed the filter and it was back to working fine. I don't find the unit noisy when it is running, however at times it does make a random 'glugging' sound which is annoying.
