Prior to using this stuff, the filters in our humidifiers would turn all kinds of interesting colors from mold, bacteria, etc. I add a bit of this once a week and they stay white. This saves a bit of money on replacement filters because they don't get terminally nasty too quickly. A single bottle of this also lasts a long time. Filling up two 1 gallon humidifiers twice a week during the winter, the last bottle lasted something like 2 years.

One issue - the bottle shown in the picture is not the one that shipped. The new bottle is a cylinder and while it is full, it is very difficult to get the single bottlecap full of treatment out without spilling or having it drip all over. The old bottle worked much better for pouring.

You should note that this does not cut down on calcification of the filter, just bacterial build-up. Hard water will ultimately ruin the filter because the filter gets hard and crusty from minerals in the water.

Also note that this is for evaporative humidifiers only - ultrasonics will vaporize this stuff into the air. You don't want to breathe it.

I looked for just regular ultrasonic humidifiers and couldnt find hardly any that just held alot of water, had a directional spout and the mist came out on top so it didnt get the carpet wet, was quiet and that's it... dont need filters or anti-bacterial whatever that will just break, i know how to wash a piece of plastic when its dirty. Anyway, this model is all those things, I would have said I was 100% satisfied with it. AND I bought it from the manufacturer after amazon screwed up my order and tried to charge me a ton for shipping.
BUT, i cant give it 5 stars because when the thing runs out of water, an alarm goes of, what the heck is that for? Just turn off if you're so worried. It woke me up and scared me half to death. Today it woke up my twins and scared them, its like a siren this thing. I'm going to take some pliars to it and 'fix' it myself. Other than that, works like a charm. BIG tank... good.

CHANGE: fan broke after 2 mos. its trash now, going in the garbage.

I love this humidifier.

Quiet, light, does the job. I've had this for a year now and I've nothing bad to say about it.

This is the single worst consumer item I have ever purchased. It worked for about 1 month, and then crapped out. No more mists.
Try to get some support on it--fuhgettaboutit.

I liked this humidifier when I first bought it. It worked great and it was quiet. It's still quiet but it's not producing any mist. Sometimes when I shake it it will start up again, but by the morning it's not working anymore and it leaks all over the floor. So after kicking several times tonight, I've decided that it's going in the trash.

I have used this humidifier since the last one month. Had no issues with this. No expensive filters to replace and extremely quiet
The demineralization cartridge is optional and required only if you live in hard water areas.
Correction : I have started seeing the white dust phenomenon. The humidifier is not as great as I thought initially. I am unable to change the rating, else I would give it a 3 star.
