I have had the very same problem that others listed. After a few years of use, the on switch just refuses to stay in the on position. What horrible quality!!!

I had the same problem as others did. After about 2 years, the iron won't stay on in the upright (veritical) position. It turns off. It stays on in the horizontal position, while ironing, as long as the cord doesn't jiggle. As soon as you set it down to move clothing, it clicks and shuts off. The steam was good on the iron.....but I will NOT buy another Black & Decker iron again !!!

I looked up this iron to tell my mom the model number, as she has had one bad iron after another and I am recommending this one to her. I am so surprised to see these negative reviews, I guess that most people who are pleased with their product don't feel the need to post a positive statement! So I will speak up in this iron's defense. We have used this exact iron for 2 1/2 years. It has never leaked, it warms up instantly and steams like a champ. And I must add that I have dropped the iron probably about 20 times over 2 1/2 years, and the only thing that happens is the blue knob falls off, but it snaps right back on. Other than that it continues to work perfectly. So I definitely describe it as durable and recommend it!

I bought Black and Decker because of its reputation believing that maybe it cost so much because it is a good iron. Well think again, not only does it drip on your clothes but you cant fill up the water tank all the way or the water will spill in huge circles on your clothes. Then it does not get the wrinkles out unless you put water in it and it still doesn't do a great job then. I was VERY unhappy with this iron and wouldnt recommend it to anyone. When it dies it starts to smell really bad and does not move across clothing easily. When it quit it brown water started to bubble out the machine. I was not surprised because it wasnt good to begin with.

THIS IRON DOES NOT GET HOT AND IT LEAKS ALOT. I LIKE THE FACT THAT THE CORD WINDS UP, BUT THAT IS THE ONLY THING THAT WORKS ON THE IRON

I bought a new iron because the one I had was dying. I picked the Black and Decker because of all it offered. When I tried to iron some blouses that I always ironed with my old one, I could not get the wrinkles out. It was very frustrating. On top of that it leaked out the bottom. I took out my old iron and finished the job.

This is the worst iron you can buy. Waste of money.

This is the best iron. Pretty light, but heavy enough to make a good crease. Also this is the quickest heating iron I have ever owned. This iron is so reliable. I am very impressed with the quality of the iron. Definate thumbs up!!!

this iron is the best i have ever owned its so light weight and with arthritis hands that is a blessing you wont beat it.

i have this iron, unfortunately it recently fell to the floor, and steamed my hard wood floor. its now ruined. but i loved that iron, i quilt and sew and that iron glides like ice and steams hot in seconds, i've never had an iron that heated up so quickly. i just wish it didn't come on by itself when tipped, a nice feature if you want to leave it on all day and just iron when you need it, an awful feature if you have kids. hence my present conundrum.

This lightweight iron from Black & Decker is hands down the best iron I've ever owned, and believe me, I've owned a few. The bottom is simply polished metal rather than some non-stick, Teflon-like material, which means that the iron gets really hot for all those cotton and linen things that require intense heat. And it has two handy buttons on top, one for a burst of steam, and one for a shot of water. Perhaps my favorite feature, however, is the automatic shut-off. It's comforting to know that if I wander off and leave it on, the iron, which is a bit less forgetful than I am, will turn itself off.

I was extremely disapointed with this iron I purchased on sale for $19.99. It worked well for about 8 months and then all of a sudden the lower half of the steam holes started spurting water when there was water in the reservoir. It looks more like a water fountain than an iron. I'm throwing it away and looking for another.

For whatever reason, my iron leaks water when I am steaming. I am using distilled water, because the tap water ruined my old iron. Does Black and Decker have any product recalls on this one?

I recently purchased this iron. Despite claiming to be a 1200 W iron, it was quite poor in ironing my cotton shirts. The iron was simply not hot enough to do the job quickly. I will be returning this iron soon.

I love this iron when it was working. One day it just stop heating up, I am looking for someone to fix it, I paid to much just to throw it out.

Without question, this iron provides great amounts of steam and presses beautifully. I have had mine for 15 months, and it developed a leak in the iron. It is made so that it can not be taken apart in an attempt to repair the leak. For the money, I think it should have lasted longer. Very frustrating to pay that much for an iron that oly lasted 15 months.

This is the best iron I have ever tried. If you don't always get to your ironing right away it allows you to steam all of the wrinkles out in no time. It produces an amazing amount of steam. It is what I would call medium weight. The only problem I have had is that eons ago I developed a habit of sitting an iron on the heel while I adjust the ironing piece. You can't do that with this iron. Oh well, it was a bad habit anyway. I highly recommend this iron!

The digital control is awesome however, getting water all over your pants when the Iron (starts up, user adds water, change temp settings) makes me wish I didn't drop and break my Rowenta. If B&D had focused on the mechanical design for this Iron it could have been the perfect Iron.
More power would be nice (ie 1700 watts) along with leak protection. Another use full feature would be two button input (+-). The other feature I like about the irons digital control is that it tells you when it's at the right temperature. However, all aside the Iron's first primary mission is to produce steam not dispense water. That why I rate this Iron a 1.
