I have had this iron for less than a year and am very disappointed. The iron has leaked since I first started using it and the cord no longer retracts. When using the steam feature, flaky material gets all over the clothes. I am now shopping for a new iron as this iron has completely stopped working and was a big waste of money.

I bought this iron 6 months ago and I was very happy with it. Now it doesn't work any more. It doesn't heat and the cord doesn't retract. I try to call the customer sevice but I didn't have a 800 number and I stayed 30 minutes on wait so I hang on.
I think I will get a panasonic instead. They have good reviews.

Great iron...Nicely weighted, very powerful, and the features all work very well. The detachable water tank makes filling it easy. The retractable cord assembly is a nice feature, although you do have to manually feed the cord in or it will not retract the whole cord (you need to relieve the tension so the cord does not bunch up rewinding). I have been using the iron now for two years and I am very pleased. One bit of warning: the manufacturer is now marketing an inferior line of irons made in China rather than Germany, check the country of origin carefully!!

I had a Black & Decker auto shut-off for 16-1/2 years when the sensors quit working. It was a great iron. Could not find another B&D I liked, and then saw the Rowenta Ultra Professional. It looked good and what I was looking for in an iron, so I brought it home. Found out that when I turned it on, I not only had to turn it to a setting, but I also had to move it somehow before it would start to heat up. Then, it only steamed at the highest setting. When I finally got it to heat up, I found it not to be balanced and, therefore, not comfortable to use. So, I'm taking it back and going in further search of a B&D I like (I found a couple on the internet in case I don't find something in a store).

This is my third Rowenta iron and they have all served me well, but this is by far the best. The steam is amazing. You only have to made one pass on most items. I know it is a lot of money for an iron but it is worth every penny for the time it saves.

I purchased the Rowenta DM-990 after buying and returning other makes of irons. The Rowenta by far out performed any of the other irons I had tried. The Rowenta makes ironing easy and fast. Even at lower temperatures, it does not leak or spit.
The variable steam settings with the Burst of Steam and the Mist feature are very useful. It is easy to fill and clean. The Rowenta is well worth the extra cost.

This steam-iron system was a great "idea", but poorly built. The switch went out on mine too. It gets up to pressure but the sole plate will not get hot. It was great while it lasted. Not sure I'll buy another one.

The unit worked for one year and five months and the switch died (made in France not Germany). The estimate for repair is 50-70% of the cost of the machine plus shipping to the regional service center. While the steam generator is a dream to use, the cost of repairing or replacing it is not real appealing.

I have owned Rowenta irons for years and when the Steam generator came out I purchased it. Love it while it worked. After less than two years the on/ off button just suddenly stopped working. The customer service depatment was less than helpful. I would certainly think more than twice before purchasing another Rowenta.

The Rowenta Professional Iron is a nice iron. Will it make you want to leave your spouse and run away to Europe with it? Mmm.. probably not. I'm giving it four stars because it does what it is supposed to do and it does it well.

I like the large plate. It is stainless steel and glides across a multitude of fabrics well. It has sprayer and burst of steam buttons which both work very well. The burst of steam is enough to almost blast the iron off your board. The controls are pretty standard, although it only has two steam settings- more & less. I have yet to notice any spitting or leaking. The reservoir fill inlet could be a little larger, but that is true of every iron I've ever owned. The reservoir itself is large and will, when full, be adequate enough to iron more than a full load of clothes.

The temperature adjusts quickly. It heats up right quick and cools off to iron silk and synthetics relatively quickly.

I found the cord connection to be adequate although the hinge was a little stiff at first. Work it a little and it's fine. The cord could be longer, but again, for me the cord is never long enough.

I am addicted to ironing and this provides a nice ironing experience. Is it cosmic? No, but it gets the job done.

I can't find anywhere else that cost this less to get a Rowenta Professional Iron!! It's absolutely great price for great merchandise!
