I have been a fan of the Black & Decker Irons. When my last one quit on me I decided to branch out and see what was out there. After reading the reviews I settled on the T-Fal 18301. The most positive thing about this iron was that it provided lots of steam; there are no more positive recommendations. Negatives: 1)There is no off/on button. This irons decides when it will come on and when it will shut off. At the end I could not even hang up a shirt without it shuting down on me. Then it was plug and un-plug to get it back started. 2) The water tank needed constant refilling. One shirt/pants only before refill. 3) At the end it would not even cut itself on. I purchased this iron 12/29/2002. I placed it in the garbage can 08/24/2003. It was a waste of money and time. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT buy this iron. Save your money, save yourself!

i presently have a t-fal avantis 90 iron and was very pleased with it. have had this iron maybe a year now and it just quit working on me just yesterday 3-15., would like to know what it can do about this if you have a phone number where i can locate them i would appreciate you giving it to me so that i may call them. Was very pleased with the iron but not so please with the length of time it lasted me.

My previous iron was an old one that didn't have any auto shut-off features. I got burned by that (no pun intended!) when last year there was an incident where we left it on for 2 whole days!
After that, I promised myself I'd buy a new iron with auto shut-off features and in my search, I decided to buy this one.
Of course, the first things I tested were the 30 second and the 8 minute shut-off features and they both work perfectly! Ironing is also a breeze. At first I thought it wasn't heavy enough, but that doesn't seem to be a problem. Even the toughest wrinkles are very easy to deal with - I highly recommend this iron.

Great product. I used to have one in Europe that lasted for ages. I was glad to find the same or similar model in the US... thanks to Amazon.com!

I hate buying new irons but when it came time to purchase one, I bought this iron. It heats up super fast and steams great.
The iron literally glides across your clothes. I would definitely recommend this iron to anyone.

I just received my T-Fall 1662 Turbo Iron from Amazon today and bought it without any specs listed for this Iron. I gave it 3 stars because I am not sure how long it will last (my sunbeam lasted a year before it conked out). The biggest difference about this Iron that I am some what diappointed with is that it does not have a vertical steam option. The following info is what I pulled off the T-Fall site. Temperature pilot light indicates when the iron is ready. Nine-foot power cord. Anti-scaling valve. What's the big deal about the anti-scaling valve? my wife is wondering what is the reason that this item in particular is so dramatically reduced compared to other T-Fal ultraglide irons, although this model seems in the picture to be as sophisticated. Is there any reason that we should know of so that we opt for another T-Fal model?

This iron was bought as a replacement for an old one that wore out with mineral deposits. My new T-Fal 1660 UltraGlide Plus is a joy to use!!

The iron is of a medium weight, the soleplate just glides over the clothes and around buttons with ease, and the steam is available within a minute of turning on the iron.

The iron comes with a 9 ft. cord, long enough for most people. It also comes with a handy cup for filling the more than ample, see-through water tank. It has a vertical steam feature which is handy for quickly steaming a garment on a hanger when you are short on time. The settings are easy to read and change. It's self cleaning and comes with a 10 year warranty on the soleplate to boot.

I shouldn't be in need of an iron for a long time. If you are considering a new iron take a look at this one.

Used this iron for the first time tonight. Works wonderfully. Really glides. Only thing I don't like and didn't take note of before I bought was that it isn't auto shut off. I've had that for so many years on my other iron that I would have ordered another model that had that feature if I had really read the stats.. I sew a lot and am in the habit of leaving my iron plugged in. Other than that if it holds up, it's wonderful especially for the price. I've paid much more for other irons in past.

I've found this a fabulous iron for the price. As a quilter, I iron all day with the heat cranked way up and I do use steam. I've burned out some expensive (ouch) irons in my time. Our water is hard so the pull out valve is a valuable feature. This iron is a work horse, feels good in the hand and I hope they never discontinue it. Thanks T-Fal!
