Irons Review Daniel Boulud Cast Iron 5-Quart Oval Roaster
I was looking for a roaster that was sized to receive an Oven Stuffer Roaster for purposes of making Salt Baked Chicken. I started out with the 3-quart size which was too small, but the 5-quart is just about 1 inch larger around than an Oven Stuffer Roaster which is just about ideal. I agree with previous reviewer that the height could be slightly higher, but it did barely clear "the bird". Nicely designed cooking vessel for price charged. Seems ideal for chicken/fowl. Interior dimensions are 11" long x 8 1/2" wide x 4 1/2" high.

Irons Review Well done enameled roaster
I had looked at the le Creuset pots and found them ludicrously expensive (overpriced in my view). A cast iron, enameled pan is not made of unusually expensive materials and does not seem likely to require an unusual amount of processing, so it probably should be fairly inexpensive.

The Boulud roaster, which I believe I read elsewhere is made by Sabatier, is an excellent enameled iron pot, with simple but functional handles and lid. I got it for poaching chickens, and it is just about the right size for that, though if I had my way, I would like one of the same cross-section but with higher sides so that it would hold a roaster or hen comfortably. The oval shape is nice for reducing the amount of liquid necessary for poaching, which requires less reduction at the finish.

The interior is enameled as well, which was not clear in the description.

Irons Review proper use for Euro-Pro Shark iron = paperweight or doorjamb
I hate, hate, hate this iron. Hate it!!! Is that emphatic enough? Hate it!

Domesticity is such a drag that I'll entertain any hope of "effortless" housekeeping (I know, I know, total oxymoron). And the Euro-Pro Shark looked good--wide base, nice weight, which meant less force necessary. The price at the time I bought it was 39.99. I would have had better returns on Lotto tickets.

Any time I try to use the steam setting, Euro-Pro Shark's Gentle Glide iron spits and drools on my clothes. Not little leaks either. Serious incontinence. Additionally, the three-footed base is poorly constructed and the little rubber pads come off easily (OK, so I dropped it--can't blame that on Shark, but still, one likes a little resiliency...and yes, it was leaking loooong before I dropped it, heck, it actually leaks less now--can't wait to see what it does when I throw it). The heat settings are fine, but the timed turn-off seems to be less than five minutes, and if the automatic shut-off has been activated, you have to unplug, then plug the iron in again in order to turn it on. And wait for it to heat up. Not effortless.

Because of the major leaking problem, I both wrote and called Euro-Pro using the numbers on the website and user's manual. Nobody home. No replies. Sham operation? I have no idea, but I think it's safe to say that the customer is not a priority.

    Irons Review Worst iron available!
My old iron recently broke so I bought this one thinking that it would be great. It is not. It routinely pours water out of the steam holes essentially drenching the clothes and ironing board. The iron with shut off mid use and the only way to turn it back on is to unplug it for several seconds and replug it in. The steam settings seam to have no effect on the amount of steam (or water) it expels and the you are required to go over wrinkles multiple times to get them out. I also bought a Euro-Pro Shark vaccuum that has had nothing but problems. I cannot recommend this iron nor any products by them. I ended up pitching this iron (after only 3 months) and bought a Black and Decker instead.

Irons Review I HATE THIS DISHWASHER
THIS SI THE WORST DISHWASHER EVER. THE IRON IS BETER AT WASHING DISHES IN THIS. I THINK WHOEVER MADE THIS DISHWASHER SHOULD USE IT FOR IRONING INSTEAD. NOT ONLY IS IT ROUGH ON THE SOUL. IT BURNS HOLES THROUGH YOUR CLOTHES IF YOU ONLY LEAVE IT ON FOR 2 MINUTES. THEY SHOULD HAVE SOME SORT OF SAFETY THING ON THIS. HOLD ON MY COMPUTERS RINGING

    Irons Review Flimsy Faulty Flop
1~ Heats by resistance at tip/workpiece junction, so heating is inconsistent depending on workpiece thermal mass, contact pressure, and surface conductance
2~ Tip has very puny thermal mass, is ridiculously fragile and grossly overpriced
3~ Reliable battery irons from other makers (eg Amazon item B0007IS2ZK) and butane irons are readily available.

Irons Review Innovative, but won't replace a corded soldering iron
You have probably seen the commercials for Coleman Cold Heat battery operated soldering iron. Looks pretty nice on TV, so I decided to buy one and test it out.

The tool works by applying 5 - 6 Volts DC from 4 AA batteries directly to the metallic surface being soldered on. There is an on-off switch, and a white illumination led, plus a red status led; but the heart of the tool is the special split tip, made of some kind of ferro-composite material.

The tip heats up the surface you want to weld by shorting up on it.

The idea basically works, indeed, you can heat up a metallic surface pretty well (though not for very long, in my trials a set of fully charged 2000 mAh Ni-MH batteries lasted less than 10 minutes). But don't throw away your corded soldering iron just yet.

As many of you know, one of the pillars of successful welding is to have a clean well groomed soldering tip that sucks up the solder like a sponge, and releases it to a well fluxed surface. Well, the Cold Heat tips do not hold any solder at all, they repel it.

The technique then is to apply solder directly to the welded surfaces, and that is a much more limited technique with results that can vary greatly depending on the kind of the surfaces being worked with.

Besides, all the shortcomings, this is a truly portable wireless soldering iron, and it is amazing that we have this technology now.

Irons Review It's Lodge, It's the Best
It's Lodge, It's the Best. this is lodge, this is lodge logic, this is the stuff mom wanted, but wasn't available, back in the 60's, and, my my, didn't that corn bread taste good, back then?
Now, i can call Mom, and tell her, my cornbread tastes as good as hers, without all the work of seasoning a good pan. Perhaps, this isn't the time to ask for a $1000, or so, so i can buy the Whole line of Lodge Logic pans?, Sorry, Mom, this is some good cornbread........
