Travel Irons Review Oh-so-cute, but not particularly useful.
I first purchased these because I needed pot holders, so I was surprised when they arrived to see that they would only cover one finger at a time. (NOT THE MANUFACTURER'S FAULT). Having admitted that embarrassing piece of information, I still don't find them useful. Unlike other reviewers, I dont' feel comfortable leaving the handle holder on while cooking (I have a gas oven)and trying to put them on after the skillet has been on the stove defeats the purpose.

Beyond that....I love the chili pepper design! 8-)

Travel Irons Review Good for when you bake or roast in your skillet
Works like one would expect. I use it rather than a pot holder/oven mitt when removing the cast iron from the oven. It's perfect for the task, especially since my hands don't go into oven mitts easily. It is a "unitasker" but worth it for frequent cast iron bakers.

Travel Irons Review Works OK, still have to be a little careful.
This product works pretty well, fitting onto the handle well. The issues with it have been mentioned in other reviews: It's somewhat on the thin side, and can get hot if you leave it on the handle while cooking. Taking it off and back on everytime you manipulate your iron skillet can be annoying, especially if you forget and burn yourself - however, the learning curve is rather short, especially after you burn yourself. And since the skillets are guaranteed to hold an even temperature throughout the whole skillet, you are assured of a nice, even burn to your entire palm.

I would pay a couple of bucks more for the Lodge Max Temp Handle Mitt - it's thicker (so you feel less of the metal handle, giving you a psychological edge in being able to grip it firmly), stays cool longer, and although it's not in festive colors and pattern, it's utility-driven.

    Travel Irons Review cheaply made
This converter and adaptor set is a great price, but you get what you pay for.... I was very happy with the product for the first few days of my recent trip to Europe. On the 5th day, however, I pulled out the voltage converter so that I could blow dry my hair, and I was dismayed to find the two prongs that plug into the wall had completely snapped off! Wet hair for the rest of the vacation. Don't buy this product.

Travel Irons Review Careful what you use this with!
This unit is not suitable for low current/wattage items. My wife plugged our cell phone charger into it...and that was the end of the cell phone. If you plan on charging devices, you probably will have the same reslts...buy something rated for 0 to 50 watts!

Travel Irons Review Not what I expected
Working in a full-price retail store, I use a Jiffy Steamer on a weekly basis. So when I discovered they sold a cheaper version I got one. Well boy was I disppointed! The "puffs" of steam stopped long before my garment was decent. After a while, it just stopped working altogether. Now the plate is filthy (from who knows what) and the thing is practically useless! Save your money and listen to these people's reviews.

Travel Irons Review Don't bother with this one
I have to echo some of the other customers' negative sentiments below - this thing never really worked well. Recently I noticed it had completely died; I think I used it all of 6 times. There have to be better models out there - I wouldn't recommend this one.

Travel Irons Review Great for travel and light steaming
I have owned this iron for about three years now and I use it every week still. It is great for quick steaming of sweaters and quick ironing in the morning. Not great for stubborn wrinkles or delicate fabrics but that is not what its true purpose is. It is wonderful to throw in your suitcase for traveling. Just remember to keep cleaner on hand and clean it regularly.I recommend this iron for any business traveler!

This is the worst steamer I've ever had. It would not heat up so the steam would come out and the top does not stay on.

    Travel Irons Review Almost Perfect
Look. I suck at using a normal iron. But, after reading some reviews decided to try a press out to decrease my dependence on Dry Cleaners.

The results are pretty good. As I have gotten better using it the results have gotten better. Plus, there are some fabrics and materials that iron much easier than others. I just did a couple of long-sleeve dress shirts and the results were good. Not perfect, but good.

As others have said, I wish it were bigger and wish the top plate opened higher and with the back hinge was farther back to give me more room to work with. But, once you understand the right method of doing it the back hinge isn't really a big deal. More height clearance would be nice, though.

It won't be too long before it pays for itself. And, now I have no excuses when it comes to wearing clothes that are wrinkled! Plus, I'm pressing my golf shirts which typically didn't look that good after being washed, but were too expensive to get dry cleaned...

I also just ironed an undershirt just for fun. Now THAT was an easy shirt to iron. :)

Travel Irons Review great for polo shirts !!!
all the reviews i read were spot on.......

i golf a lot and as such my wardrobe contains a lot of polo golf shirts which my cleaners charge me $3.50/shirt to launder and iron. i was averaging 4-5 shirts per week which meant about $15/wk,$60/month, or $720/yr. on my polo shirts alone.

with this machine, i can do 5 or 6 polos in 15 minutes.

once the press heats up, you pull the handle down to make a press and on the cotton setting it takes about 10 seconds to make a press(a bell goes off when its time, so you wont forget). on my polos i need to do 6 presses. 3 for the body, 1 for the collar, and 1 for each sleeve. so each shirt requires 60 seconds of "pressing time" and i need 1-2 minutes to load the shirt and smooth the fabric on the ironing surface.

it does a great job and i'm very satisfied with the machine.
i've also pressed slacks, and it does a great job with them as well.

i have not tried pressing a man's business shirt...however, my cleaner charges me a $1.25 per shirt and for me that is well worth it to have them do it.

overall, i'm satisfied with the product. i'll echo the words of wisdom from the other reviews.......

    1) watch the top plate !! it gets hott(with 2 Ts) and the press doesn't open wide enough. so your fingers and knuckles are very much "at risk" - just be careful !

    2) the 22x9 ironing surface still seems small to me, but i guess without buying a "commercial" grade press the 22x9 size seems standard. would be nice if it were bigger, but it is what it is.

I'm a man and as such my domestic skills are minimal.....this machine makes me look like a pro !

Travel Irons Review A little smaller than our last press but it sure beats ironing!
We had a press made by Singer that finally gave up the ghost after more than 10 years. After a several days of ironing clothes with mixed results & a lot of frustration, we researched presses on Amazon based on customer reviews. We decided on this press and have not been disappointed. The press is ready to use as soon as it's out of the box. Operation is simple & all but self-explanatory, and it heats up VERY quickly. It is a little smaller than our previous press, but not so small as to be a drawback. Clothes are ready in no time compared to ironing. The press comes with a water spray-bottle if you prefer not to use the steam feature. Definitely worth the money spent!

Travel Irons Review 20 years and still going strong!
I bought one of these in 1986 (20 years ago!) as an emergency purchase while travelling, and it's still working like a champ. And I don't just use it for travel -- I often haul it out to do the regular ironing while at home. Amazingly, the design and construction of the current model are exactly the same today as they were then. Kudos to Black & Decker for having the good sense not to try and improve on an already perfect product!

Travel Irons Review Best fifteen bucks ever spent!
This iron gets the job done and is very affordable. It has various functions and can handle quality shirts. I recommend this to anyone looking for an effective, affordable iron.

Travel Irons Review Well, depends on what you need it for
As a home iron, sure. As a travel iron...never again. I really did like the iron. What I didn't like was that it blew THREE electric current converters. Three!! The very expensive one with all the adaptors that I bought to take on my 3 week European tour, plus 2 more that I bought in France because I had no way of charging my camera battery. Third time's a charm, because it was at that point that I figured out it was the iron blowing the fuses. On the first, I tried to change the fuse (because it came with 2 extra), but the iron fried it so badly, that the fuse material melted to the connection points in the converter. So, no thanks....I'll go back the slightly crappier travel iron I picked up from Wal-Mart for the last trip I took.

Travel Irons Review tcgirlie was the problem-not the iron
When you use your iron overseas, you must not only plug it in, but move the switch from 110 to 220v setting. Most likely, she plugged it in without switching it. OF COURSE you're going to blow transformers if you expect the transformer alone to do the work, that's why there's an adjustment knob. I've never had a single problem with this iron using it anywhere. Try reading the instructions and you'll have no problem. These irons have 2 separate heating elements-one for each voltage.

tcgirlie, yes, please do go back to the "crappy Wal-Mart iron" because you don't know how to operate a quality product.
