Generally nice unit
Nice unit, especially for the money.I set up the included remote on my back deck at the other end of the house from the base. There are three walls between the remote and the base, yet base picks up the signal perfectly. Just read the directions before starting. The atomic clock didn't find a signal for the first few days but finally I did pickup a signal (I am well over the recommended range of 930 miles or so). You can set the clock up manually if needed, and it's very easy to do. I love seeing both the indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity without switching modes.
My disappointments so far are few. 1) The unit runs only on batteries and manual says no rechargables. There is no ac adaptor option. 2) The backlight only stays on for a few seconds and it really isn't long enough to see everything. It would be great if this were configurable. 3) To change batteries in the remote you must unscrew three tiny, recessed screws so make sure you have a small phillips head screwdriver handy.
Overall, I am very happy with this unit, especially when you consider the price. I was prepared to spend a lot more to get a high end unit that shows both indoor and outdoor temp and humidity at the same time but they just aren't out there.

THGR268 REMOTE TEMPERATURE SENSORI purchased this unit as a replacement for the one I had. The reason for the 4 star rating and not 5 star rating is because the humidity indicator portion of this unit does not go to a 100 pct. The highest it goes is 98 pct. I'm assuming this is some sort of calibration misalignment but there are no adjustments for realigning the unit if it drifts off. Other than that, it works just fine.
Different temperature readingsI bought three sensors and all three shows different readings for temperatue and humidity. Not a big difference (+/-1 degree Celcius) but still annoying
DOES THE JOB IT WAS MADE TO DO.I HAVE VALIDATED THE READINGS FROM MORE THAN ONE SOURCE AND FOUND THE UNIT TO BE VALID AND RELIABLE. SINCE IT IS NOT EXPENSIVE AND DOES WORK WELL THROUGHOUT THE WALLS AND AT A DISTANCE ACROSS THE HOUSE, I'M NOT SURE WHAT ONE MIGHT COMPLAIN ABOUT WITH THIS PRODUCT.

Works great. The sensor used in conjunction w/ the LaCrosse weather station is a great combo. Accurate, trouble free operation. I've installed my sensor in a protected outdoor environment and haven't experienced any difficulties. Got this one for a relative as a gift.
Great Product-Get itI ordered this sensor to go with a very old La Crosse Unit after the old sensor had been dropped I can't count how many time. We never fixed it to a spot after three years of use and kept droping it off a brick wall three feet high bringing in the groceries etc. It is extremely accurate as is the unit and even the forcasts are bang on. I highly rate this product.

Simple and inexpensiveI bought this station about 6 months ago. It was very easy to set up, and has been working perfectly ever since. Having one reliable atomic clock in the house is useful, as all appliances drift somewhat, and so do mechanical watches. The wireless remote temperature sensor has also been working reliably. I just placed in under a bench on the deck, and it has survived so far (in the wet Seattle climate).
Also, the station has a memory for highest/lowest temperatures (one for the station, one for the remote sensor), which is nice when you want to know exactly how hot/cold it got last night.
I haven't been using the weather forecast much, so I won't comment on it.
I still haven't had to change the batteries (almost 6 months of use by now).
Altogether, I'm very happy with the purchase (less than $35), and would recommend this unit to anyone looking for an inexpensive atomic clock/temperature sensor combo.

A great product for the price!I would recommend this for any price-conscience buyer who needs an outdoor themometer and an accurate indoor temp measurement.
The wireless capability allows me to place the indoor unit away from heat sources (i.e. chimney, kitchen, etc) to ensure an accurate reading indoors, as well as wireless distance flexability for outdoor sensor placement.
The only function emitted from this particular model is a meter for the level of humidity outdoors. It actually does have an indoor reading, but for whatever reason (probably cost) it is lacking the outdoor measurement.
Lastly, the unit has been very accurate predicting the upcoming weather, even here in Maine where the weather changes practically hourly! Overall, for the price point and accuracy, this is a 5 star unit in my opinion.

Works as expected; could be smaller/backlitI bought this when I was trying to understand a sudden spike in our power bill. This unit does exactly what it says: measure kilowatt-hours used. It also measures some other power stats, but I didn't have time to experiment with them.
In terms of how it works, you plug it inbetween the wall outlet and the appliance you want to track. As time passes, it measures how much power the appliance consumes and shows it in a nice, big digital display. It resets when you unplug it.
It is a bit unwieldy to use in cases where the appliance is large and placed in a recessed area (e.g. dryers, fridge). The case is a bit large, so you have to maneuver a bit to get it plugged into the wall. Also the display resets when you unplug it, so it would help to have the results persist for a minute or two so you can still read them.

Great gadget to have aroundThis is great - it did live up to my expectations, and at about $30, it's definitely a great buy.
This shows the volts, amperes, watt, KHW, line frequency, and so on. The power consumption is the best feature - it leads to quite a few pleasant and unpleasant surprises! It was great to find, for instance, that the tower fans use under 50 watts - compared to a 1200-watt AC, that's a great savings! However, it was not-so-nice to see that my hair dryer consumes close to 1800 watts with the heat on high.
While not a terribly cost-saving device by itself - it will have an effect on your power consumption, and may lead to smaller power bills. At least it tells you how much power your gadgets consume, unlike the packaging which is often misleading and rarely contain the power rating.
As another reviewer mentioned, desktop computers were the biggest surprise - with a core duo churning out Seti at Home work units, I was surprised to see it's costing me about 300 watts an hour, or about $27 a month - whereas, using the PC for just 4 hours a day for my personal use, I end up with less than $5 a month! Ouch!
My only complaint - this unit has only one outlet, but is designed in such a way that it guards both the outlets on the wall. That means, I run one outlet short of what I had before. Of course, I can buy a outlet duplicator from the dollar store and put it on this, but it would have been nice if this just took the space of a single outlet - just shifting the prongs a half-inch towards the edge would have solved the issue.

A must have. This product is a must-have for any household, and it's great to see them finally priced reasonably.
It could be improved -- for example, if plugged into a wall socket the unit blocks both plugs. However, it's still a 5-star in my book.
I think a lot of folks like me would love to see a delux unit offerred that can be attached to a computer (perhaps wirelessly) for ongoing data collection.

Outdor temperature sensorI purchased this model and 8117CTWC in 2004 and 2005 The outside temperature sensor died after 1 year the fist time ten months after the second time 2006 got a replecment sensor wich did not work at all
Works great, easy to useI've owned this unit for several months now and I'm quite happy with it. It was simple to set up, I had no problem getting a strong clock signal and seems to be pretty accurate. It is certainly accurate enough for home use. The simple weather forecast function works well too.
There are two things I'd gig this unit on: One is that to reset the min/max temperatures etc. you have hold the reset button for several seconds. I'd like the time required to hold the button reduced. The other is that I'd really like for the barometric pressure to be displayed. It tracks pressure changes, but doesn't provide a pressure readout.
Both of these are relatively minor items and for the money you won't be disappointed in this unit.

WS-7047U Wireless Rain & Temp GaugeThis gauge has been working great since day one. The set up was easy. Our temp gauge seems to be running very accurately and is within 1-2 degrees with our thermostat.
I haven't had the chance to try the raingauge since we are in dead of summer and as everyone knows, "It never rains in California." I'm sure we will have no problem with it. This is a terrific gauge to start with as I am now going to upgrade sometime in Fall/Winter to get more weather info.

Well pleased after several months useI'm very please with the performance of this 3 piece unit after 6 months of use. The temperture gauge works well, just be sure to place it in a area that avoids direct sunlight. The rain meter is the real gem in the package, accurately reading to the 1/100th of an inch. Do be aware there is a delay in the radio transmition, meaning that you may see heavy rainfall with nothing happening with the meter. It updates about every few minutes. It's interesting to compare what you thought you were getting to what you actually received (like on those drizzly days you thought you must have gotten inches, only to get 3/10ths).
A 5 star product must: 1) do what's advertised; 2) meet expections for quality, reliability and appearance; and 3) be priced reasonably. It does all three, and is probably worth more than the price paid!

Not Reliable, Sometimes it works and Sometimes it doesn't!I have had this unit for over 2 months now. The outdoor thermometer is less than 15 feet and 2 walls away from the indoor station. And still, it can't read the signal for the outdoor temperature, on a regular basis. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I always get the date, time, indoor temperature and the so called "forcast" and of course, the barometric air preasure and its 24 hour history, blinking at me (who cares?) but NOT the outdoor temperature and humidity. Sometimes it will work for a day or two and then suddenly it stops working and there are dashes, where the information should be. This unit is not reliable! I bought the more expensive unit, thinking it would give me more information AND be more reliable... but it's not!
Also, the layout of the information is less than ideal. Isn't the information you want most, the outdoor readings? Well, it's at the bottom. The entire face of this unit is 6 1/2 inches tall and and outdoor info. is exactly one inch of that face. Plus, they put a smiley face or a frown face icon, to tell you the "comfort level" (the combination of heat and humidity) for indoors but NOT for the outdoor readings. I think, I know when my home is comfortable. But how about telling me, when I am getting ready to go out?
Then the so called "forcast". A Sunny icon, if it is improving (not that the weather will be sunny). A Rainy icon, if it is getting worse (not that it will rain). And finally, a Sun with a Cloud icon, if it is going to stay the same (not that it will be sunny with clouds). A lot of bells and whistles that don't really mean a thing, if you ask me.
My suggestion is, buy a cheaper unit that gives you the basics. And if you are a real weather enthusiast and want a more sophisticated unit... this wouldn't be for you either.

2 out of 2 engineers think this is cool!I bought this for my father, who is an electrical engineer, and he was really pleased. He's always had a rain gauge and a barometer, so I felt this would be a winner. He spent part of a day figuring out the best location for the outdoor monitor. He especially likes the barometer history graph! My husband, who is an aerospace engineer, is mildly jealous that we don't have one of our own.
read instructions carefullyThis is a great item and works well if you read the instructions carefully!
Place the remote sensor in a logical spot with the understanding that any "micro climate" conditions of that location will be reflected in the readings you get. Read the entire manual to understand the displayed readings. The symbol of clouds with rain doesn't necessarily mean it's going to rain that day, only that conditions are likely to worsen!
Setting up multiple remote sensors, or setting up multiple stations that will get a signal from a single sensor, requires that you follow the instructions carefully or things won't work right! Don't freak out, just start again and follow the directions. Isn't it interesting that things work when you do what the instructions tell you to?
I write from experience here, this isn't a device that you can just slam batteries into and walk away expecting it to work. Yes guys, READ THE ENTIRE MANUAL FIRST! I can't say this too many times... read the instructions.

Very disappointing.Problems:
1. Remote unit doesn't work--despite repeated attempts, following directions to the letter.
2. Controls are not intuitive, to say the least.
3. Laser is not bright enough for ceiling use.
4. Doesn't sync to NIST.
5. Annoying instruction manual.

Not ImpressedThis clock did not suit my expectations. Yes, it did update the time on it's own and reports the temperature in Northern California properly.
However, the laser is very hard to see, if impossible, until the sun goes down for good. Past 8AM, I have to strain to see the image if it's projected less than 2 feet from the clock. If it's on the ceiling, forget about it!
Plus, they didn't include a constant backlight for the LCD display, so it's all but impossible to know what time it is once the sun starts to rise.
Unless you're awake before sun-up every day, don't waste your money.

PRECISION AT IT'S BEST! YOU'LL LOVE THIS CAREFREE DEVICE!I absolutely LOVE my Oregon Scientific RMR112 Cable-Free Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer with Clock. I bought an extra module and placed it upstairs in the house. Now, I can monitor my two-zone heating/AC, as well as get the precise temperature inside and outside. I placed the Indoor master unit right next to the back door kitchen so that I KNOW how warm/cool it is outside before I actually venture out. Installation is as easy as putting a couple of screws in whatever surface you're going to attach it to and sliding it on.
Oregon Scientific RMR112 Outdoor Thermometer So far, so good. Had another like this and it lasted for years. Hope this one does the same. We can't get along without one, it seems, since our drive is a long one down a steep and winding hill. Just a few degrees matter as to whether ice forms or not.
Anyway, this is a decent unit for the money. I actually bought two, when I only needed one. Why? For the second remote sensor. When another unit that includes a remote sensor is only a few dollars more than the only lone remote sensor available, it made perfect sense! lol
My only gripes are: The units just can't find an atomic clock signal here (NJ) for some reason (one finally did after 2 whole days, but the next day it can't again, so I guess it depends on favorable atmospheric conditions? *); the barometer of the two units won't agree (one is spot-on after setting proper altitude; the other is way off at same altitude setting - so I guess the altitude setting is really just a general calibration); and the backlight stays on for only 4 seconds (not 8 as stated in the manual!).
Otherwise, even with its funky off-center design (because of the sliding cover), it's a nice looking unit with decent features that gives you the weather info you want the most. Plus how it rotates the display for the remote sensors is handy.
(* Seems more likely to find the atomic clock signal -- and strong level too -- on overcast days, so it does seem that atmospheric conditions affect it much like ham radio I guess. Also the unit's location around other electronic devices may affect success as well.)
