Weather Monitors Review Great deal for under $30
Easy to use and comes with one remote sensor (THR138). I bought two more since the main unit can read 3 remote sensors. Our townhome has three levels with the A/C-Heater control on the middle floor, so it's convenient to know what the temperatures in the main bedroom, guest room, and at the control are. Also, I'm always curious what the temperature is outside, and knowing that helps me decide whether to open the windows or run the A/C.

Weather Monitors Review BUYER BEWARE!
Roll the dice... these are highly INACCURATE! La Crosse Technology company plays the following game: They claim the device has "0.2 degree RESOLUTION" but then the base station and the remotes have an documented-and-unbelievably POOR accuracy tolerance of "1.8 degrees" -- an inaccuracy a whopping 9-times the ".2 degree RESOLUTION". IMAGINE paying good money for a digital THERMOMETER that is off by some 2 degrees for each remote! Two different remotes could be off by some 4-degrees To test: before installing, put them both (the base-station (for measuring INSIDE temperature) and the remote probe (for measuring OUTSIDE temperature)) in the same room for a couple hours and you will become disingenuinely disappointed at how far apart the temperature accuracy/readings are! The company will NOT do anything to correct this and will only loud that "accuracy" is NOT "resolution"!

If you want an expensive TOY, this might be for you... If you want an accurate thermometer, you'll do better dropping a couple dollars at a 5 and 10 cent store!

Weather Monitors Review Past reviews NOT reliable
1) If the last reviewer had managed to look up the specs, he/she would read that the temp accuracy is +/-2 degrees f or +/-1 degree c. Resolution is NOT accuracy; it is only the capablilty of the unit to display the temp in .2 degree intervals w/ the stated accuracy. Oh brother!!!

2) Of course, the the higher (reasonably speaking) you place the anemometer, the better the reading will be, geesh! This is true for ANY weather station. Also, the readings are not real time, since this is a WIRELESS station. I believe data is updated every 30s for the anemometer. Therefore, the 30mph wind gust you see on the console is from 30 seconds ago.

This is actually a very good weather station, and pretty accurate as well. It is easy to set up, as it is completely wireless, and solar powered w/ battery backup. Happy forcasting!

Weather Monitors Review This setup has been working fine for me.
Come on people, cut me a break. The anometer is supposed to be way up high not down low.
This is a great little unit.

Weather Monitors Review just fair
This is an okay weather station - however, you have to toggle to get inside temperature and we find that shouldn't be necessary for the price paid. Also it is not easy to re-set the rain guage.

Weather Monitors Review What a company!
Fine if it works. Mine still reads 10 degrees off on indoor temperature. Just received it back after Oregon Scientific had it for over TWO months for repair! The only difference is that now it's all scratched up. Oregon Scientific is an impersonal, contemptuous company that you don't want to ever have to deal with. They are as bad an outfit to try to get help from that you can imagine. Guess what - they have a great vision and mission statement... They should work on customer service instead of heady mission statements. All in All, I would recommend ANYone else; you don't want to have to deal with this bunch!

Weather Monitors Review Pretty, functional, but terrible directions!!
I agree with the other reviewers of this Oregon Scientific Cable Free Weather Station. The manual that came with it stinks! I have been wanting a weather stations for about 30 years, and when I saw this at Costco/PriceClub for $179.99, I bought it! I write technical manuals for training, so know a bit about technical writing, but this manual was the "poster child" of badly written manuals! One small picture with details too fine to see was supposed to suffice for all set-up, operational, and troubleshooting scenarios! I am deeply disappointed regarding the manual, and hope I am not unhappy with the weather station itself. I was able to figure out the set-up after several hours. Nowhere in the manual does it suggest how to install the weather station outside (i.e., at the peak of your roof, away from other obstructions, on a tripod). I have gone to Oregon Scientific's website only to be disappointed by any further information about set-up, or about addition accessories you will need to install the weather station (i.e., poles, tripods, guywires). Time will tell...I think I would have bought a Davis weather station had I known all this ahead of time!

Weather Monitors Review Dirtections Stink!!!
This is a nice unit unfortunately paired up with terrible directions. As stated in other reviews, Much was not explained correctly. Much grief could have been saved with better directions. My unit was shipped to me with a adapter plug used overseas. I tried many times with Oregon Scientific and some distributers to get the correct one and was totally ignored. I ended up making one with the right voltage and amps from an old cordless phone. The unit itself is great, providing what anyone wants to know of weather.

Weather Monitors Review Avoid At all costs
Its not accurate. I tested with a known load over 100 hours. I plugged in a 100 watt bulb and left it on 100 hours, which should give me 10000 watts or 10 kilowatts. According to this meter, it said I used 80 kilowatts, that's that's 80,000 watts. I'd say that's just off alittle. They advertise + or - 2%. That's more then 2%.

Avoid this product. Its junk.

Weather Monitors Review There is no way to turn it off.
The user interface is bizarre - keep the manual handy, because random pushing of buttons can land you in some strange places.

Their customer service confirmed that there's no way to turn it off. Maybe you should just leave the battery cover off, and the battery out when not in use?

All I wanted was something to measure cumulative power usage. There are other meters that do this much more intuitively.

(as for calibration: I ran it for 2.5 hrs monitoring a light with a 60w lightbulb, it measured .163kWh, which comes out to a 65.2 watt bulb. Whether the bulb was straying or the meter, I don't know.)

Weather Monitors Review Power Meter for the Masses
I needed a power meter to locate the source of a hugh increase in energy consumption. I found this meter to be easy to use and accurate (me and my EE buddy ran a series of power factor tests on the unit and it's accurate within the stated specifications, even when measuring "lossy loads").

This is a handy tool to keep track you appliance's energy consumption. Your friends will likely want to borrow it.
