Essentially Useless after 6 months use.I would not buy this vacuum if I had to do it again. I had the same problem that other customers reported with the roller getting stuck. Even after checking to make sure there is no hair caught up in it, it still doesn't budge. I went over a carpet patch where there was a small but visible ball of dog hair lying loose on top of the carpet and even after going back and forth over it MANY times not a single bit of it was picked up by this vacuum. Plus, each time I use it I spend(waste) an absurd amount of time cleaning every filter, the roller and even unscrewing the base to clean it out = hoping it will result in greater suction but the performance has still been declining since the first use. These are the reasons this vacuum is cheap, but if it only lasts for six months before losing all suction I think you'd get more for your money by saving up for a more expensive vacuum that lasts.
Don't waste your money!I've had this vacuum for one year and had to replace the roller brush 4 times! The 1st 3 I got free from the company and the last I had to buy for $25. They claim the roller is not covered under the warranty. The roller will seize up and melt after about 3 months, the last one I got has lasted me one month. I will NEVER buy another Bissell product again. There customer service stunk and when I took it to an authorized dealer he told me thats what happens when it picks up hair.... uh, duh it's a vacuum, what is it supposed to be picking up... fairy dust? Don't waste your time or money on this hunk of junk! I just went out and bought a Hoover, I hope I have better luck.
A very good vacuum for the price I have been using a Bissell for three years and it still works fine. Since it is three years old, I don't know which model number it corresponds to now but it was $89 from Wal-mart so probably was the low end of the Bissell line. Even though I have regular pile carpeting, the vacuum needs to be set to the highest height level to keep the brush spinning freely. I think the people that are having trouble with the brush are setting the height too low. I wouldn't recommend it for shag carpeting. I clean the hair off of the brush every time I use it and have done this for all vacuums I've owned. The filters do have to be cleaned but they are reusable rather than disposable therefore saving $. Buy a second set of filters so you have one to use while the other is drying out. If you don't want to maintain the filters look for a vacuum that uses bags. If you are vacuuming large particles like sand use the brush attachment. Suction can be lost if the hose is clogged so check it first (especially if you are picking up paper, leaves, or mulch). It is loud and heavy but it works well and won't break the bank.

Can't find the replacement filterI hate cleaning the dust cup filter but have been unsuccessful in finding the replacement. Closing the dust cup lid is also trickly. It took me a while to realize that you can close the lid from further to the right side of the sitck, which would not allow the locking of the cup.
Very nice for the money. Not really big enought for an entire house.
Pros
- Strong suction for a lightweight upright, 12 amps.
- Small form, great for a closet or a room corner.
- Inexpensive.
- Easily assembled.
- Brush roll for enhanced carpet cleaning, which other lightweight uprights lack.
Cons
- The air that gets sucked in gets blown out in the front of the vacuum - a bit disconcerting at first.
- Dustcup removeal took some getting used to
- Does such a good job that you may want to clean the filter after each time or two (I use a plastic fork).

great for RVs & petsThis little vac has superb suction - really terrific for pet fur and small enough to get around everything in my RV. It is hard to push - wouldn't want to use it for a full-size house but terrific for small spaces.

Bissell Pro Heat carpet cleanerI have now owned 2 of these. The first one quit working after about 6 months, but it worked so well I bought a second one. It lasted about a year, and died with a flair, shooting sparks out the left side. Althought they work great while they work, I will never buy another. Caveat emptor!
Call a professionalI bought a similar machine to this one a couple of years ago and have used it three times total and just threw it in the trash. The first use seemed to go just fine. It picked up loads of dirt and debris from the carpets throughout the 1800 ft^2 of my home. It then sat in a closet for about a year before I pulled it out again. When I went to run it, next to no fluid would come out of the main nozzles on the base. I next tried to use the hand unit and found it working perfectly. Plenty of fluid and suction. So I tore it all apart to find that the lines connecting to the main nozzles were completely gunked up with what looked like lime (I guess my water is quite hard and this is a problem). After purging the lines, cleaning out the nozzles, etc, I put it all back together and got it to work. Not as well as it did fresh out of the box mind you. I just pulled it out the closet today to use one last time before selling it (we are moving) to find the same problem...No spray from the main nozzles. Remembering what happened last time, I proceeded out to my garage to tear it apart to find the clog. To my surprise, there was no lime deposits but was instead completely clogged with mold and fungus. The lines were teeming with black algae-like residue. I tore the lines apart, purged them, put it all back together again but this time had no luck. No spray at all. I've finally had it with this product and decided to toss it in the trash and call a professional. I would recommend this approach to anyone considering buying this. I know the price of a professional can be steep but compared to the irritation of tearing apart a machine to make it work properly, it is quite fair.
AverageThis mediocre-machine has a container within a container. The bladder type of container holds the clean water while the dirty water goes out-side the bladder. The problem is the bladder opening often falls in, mixing the dirty & clean water together. Customer service who readily replaced my tank was prompt and curteous.
Suction is okay. Brush is okay. I haven't checked the outlet temp, but it supposed to raise my water temp by 25F, but I don't think that's happening.
Overall, it's an average machine from the wally-world. It works compared to the Hoover that brokedown, so I guess that's a plus. Just a few more months of these and we're getting hardwood floor, so bu-bye stinking steamers.

Cracked on first useWithin 15 minutes of our first use the attachment cracked and burned us.
steamerexcellent results from this steamer....cleaned areas that haven't been cleaned in awhile (shower, refrig etc.) and job done in seconds....steam stays hot for a long time and attachments are great~!
Fabulous little steamerAside from low price ($29.99), compact size and fast and free delivery, this product, purchased primarely to clean jewellery and chandeliers, has worked easily and without fault.
Contrary to my fears, the reservoir is large enough to complete time consuming operations without constant refilling and the jet power is more than sufficient to dislodge minute particles without the target flying out of control.
I look forward to the use of the many accessories included.

Defective triggerDo not buy the Shark Portable Steamer under any circumstances. The trigger mechanism is defective and fails after a few uses, causing all of the steam to leak out uncontrollably, which is also exposes the user to a possible steam burn. Euro-Pro Operating LLC does not stand behind its products. They will not sell you a replacement trigger or hose assembly if it fails (and trust me, it will fail). Instead, Euro-Pro wants you to spend $40 ($12.95 shipping + $27.00 "minimum" repair charge) to even look at it. Replacement parts are an additional charge! I can buy a competing product for the cost of Euro-Pro's "minimum repair" charge, shipping charge, + parts charge. Euro-Pro's service after the sale stinks. I will not buy Shark Products or do business with Euro-Pro Operating LLC ever again.
It broke in one weekWorked great for one week. Hope I can return it.
not badThis works great on tile grout! it would be nice if it worked good on the glass shower doors but it didn't
Not bad for the price. It does take a long time to get the job done.

Dissapointing Steam PressureI have owned and used steamers for several years. I purchased this to replace my older Delonghi Steam Clean Plus and here and overall found the unit produced consistent steam but lacking in pressure somewhat compared to my older model. I actually purchased the steam cleaner from a warehouse club and it had a very nice selection of accessories including an extension rod hanger that allows you to steam garments on a hanger extending from the top of the extension rod. Basically the steamer is the same as this model 275 in terms of boiler, wattage, basic design.
The unit did warm up fairly quickly and I was impressed with the quality of the accessories, using thick plastic, good quality rubber seals etc. This model I think would work well as doing primary duty as a clothes steamer but its lack of pressure make it not the best choice for blasting nooks and crannies, where a really good steamer excels as a cleaning maching no other device can touch.
Let me explain. I compared this steamer with the Saeco Piccolo steamer and with a high quality thermometer recorded the Saeco at about 190 degrees and the steamFast at about 170-180 degrees. Secondly I put a paper cup on the floor and with both machines heated up with a full tank of water, I pointed the nozzle at the opening of the cup to see which model would blow the cup the farthest. The SteamFast product blew the cup about five feet. The Piccolo blew the cup 15 feet and probably would have kept going if it was not for the wall stopping it. Not even remotely close.
Next I took both steamers out on my deck and pointed the nozzles at a hose that "overwintered" on my deck....complete with black moldy stains hiding the normally greeen hose. The SteamFast product blew steam at the hose but it did not really eliminate the moldy stains.
Next tried the Piccolo...WOW....this sucker blasted those stains down to fresh green hose.
Test over. Note: I also tried the same test with a Euro-Pro Shark Steam Blaster Ultra with similar results to the Chinese made SteamFast product.
I will add some more details in my review of the Saeco Piccolo. Needless to say, I returned the SteamMax.
Let me say, I think the overall positive results for this product are not surprising to me considering most users have not probably used an Italian made steam cleaner which seem to have hotter steam vapor, far more pressure, a longer track record of using similar technology in espresso machine manufacturing, etc. The downside of the Italian products is that it might be a bit harder to find parts and service for since they are not produced for the mass market like the steamFast and shark products. It's too bad as I really wanted the SteamFast or Shark to perform better.
Honestly if you don't make the comparison between the Piccolo or similar italian made steamer and the SteamFast, you may think you are getting a great product as it will produce consistent steam...but you won't be aware of HOW MUCH MORE YOU COULD DO with the serious pressure levels of the Italian steam cleaners. I hope some other people do some comparisons.
It was kind of fun to be my own consumer reports for the last few weeks, but I am a huge fan of these cleaners and their many uses. Most Americans have not caught on to what the Europeans have known for years.

A nice little home steame cleanerWith a business at home a steam cleaner is a real convenience. Our first one was a Europro and worked fine
but for only a year. Of course, the warranty was for only a year. After some research I discovered no warrenties over
a year on any of the moderately priced units. So far, this
steamer has worked fine. It would be better with more
psi and higher temperatures but it is a moderatelly priced
steamer. The attachements all work well and the rolling
canister is a plus. If the steamer lasts for five years or more
I will be satisfied with my investment.

BISSELL BARBIE VACUUMI LOVE IT. MY DAUGHTERS (AGES 9 & 10 ) RECEIVED ONE OF THESE FOR CHRISTMAS AND USE IT ALL THE TIME. IT REALLY WORKS GREAT. THEY VACUUM THEIR ROOM AND THEIR YOUNGER BROTHER'S ROOM ALL THE TIME. I PURCHASED THIS ONE FOR MY NIECE (AGE 6) AND AM SURE SHE AND HER MOTHER WILL LOVE IT. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS VACUUM.
Best vacuum in the houseThis vacuum works great. My daughter loves to use it whenever mom is vacuuming. It works so well that we have found ourselves grabing this vacuum for small spills rather than the house vacuum.
Mommy's Little Helper!!This is one of the best items I have purchased for my daughter! The charge lasts plenty of time for her attention span. She loves to help mommy around the house, and it really works and pick up quite a bit of dirt! She is able to vacuum up small messes and do in-between vacuums to help me with house work. It teaches her about doing chores, but she has fun at the same time. She loves being able to vacuum her own room too!! We absolutely love it!

DisappointedTheir claim is that the Dyson doesn't lose suction with use. If kept in top condition, clean and emptied then it might not lose suction. But if you allow the canister to fill up or the filter to get dirty then it definitely looses suction.
The beater brushes were never really effective. I have thick plush carpet, all one length, and I never got vacuum tracks with this vacuum. So I knew it wasn't really beating the carpet very effectively. They claim the height is auto adjusting but it doesn't seem to adjust at all and therefore is only effective on certain carpet heights.
The wand wore out early due to design errors. The hard part of the wand tube rubs against the flexible hose causing it to wear early and break. Each of the attachments broke early too.
I got about a years use out of this vacuum and threw it away. I bought a Bissell lift off upright to replace and it is already 100% better than the Dyson. In the first vacuuming with the Bissell I filled the dirt canister with dust and dog hair from my first floor alone, which shows the Dyson had been missing it all along. I now get vacuum tracks with the Bissell and my carpet looks 100% better

Good Machine - but some weaknessesWe bought the Dyson in Dec. of 2002, and it gets used for approximately 1 hour x twice a week on carpet.
In the vacuum cleaner market which, in our opinion, is dominated by poor product design, plastic parts that break easily, motors that burn out, belts that stretch and break, expensive bags that fill up virtually instantly, and a very short useful life, our Dyson has acquitted itself rather well.
Many of the other favorable comments apply and will not be repeated here.
We would add that Dyson has good telephone customer service as well as an on-line diagnostic guide.
We note the following negatives:
- The "off the floor" hose suction is not as strong and is much more awkward than with a "tank type - non upright" cleaner. If you are doing mostly off the floor cleaning, probably no upright is recommended.
- While the parts that you can access are easy to remove for cleaning and "unclogging", there are some critical non user serviceable parts on the Dyson. Even the drive belt and hepa filters are supposed to be changed by a service center.
- There are very few designated service centers capable of fixing the Dyson. So keep the box in case you have to ship the machine back to the company and hope you never need to use it. I would guess that with parts and labor, a major repair could easily be between a quarter and half the price of a new machine.
- The hepa filter, which is supposed to last the lifetime of the machine, doesn't. But notwithstanding instructions, it can be removed and replaced by the user (special replacement filter must be purchased from the company or from a dealer). We found it necessary to replace the filter (ourselves) when the machine constantly cut off due to overheating.
- While it is NOT in the instructions, customer service will tell you that vacuuming up powder (plaster, carpet cleaner, carpet deodorant) will clog the hepa filter and eventually destroy the machine. If you plan to do this kind of work, get something with a disposable bag.
- Periodically, the regular filter and basket need to be washed. Not a big deal but it needs to be done.
- Periodically, the tank needs to be thoroughly washed by running water through it and letting it dry.
Notwithstanding the above, this is probably a better and more reliable machine than anything else available (which, as noted, says something about vacuum cleaners in general), so with reservations, we recommend it.
