Robotic Vacuums Review I have to disagree with Scott...
I've had my Roomba for over a year, and I don't use it weekly as they suggest (or even bi-weekly) and my filters are falling apart. Backwashing with an air canister hasn't worked, though perhaps this is because my place is INCREDIBLY dusty.

Robotic Vacuums Review Not really needed though
Back-wash the filter after each use with canned air and they will last almost forever.

Robotic Vacuums Review Works better than I ever expected
I received the 4230 a week ago, and it is working beyond my wildest expectations. I live in a one bedroom apartment, and the roomba can easily handle the whole place. It picks up cat hair extremely well (the number one reason I bought it).

I have yet to use the scheduling features as we leave a lot of stuff out on our floors that I prefer to pick up before letting roomba do its thing. It is nice to have the option though, especially considering the price that amazon offers on this top-of-the-line model.

Now I want more little robots to do other chores around the house!

Robotic Vacuums Review i advice to buy one
first time i turn it on and it starts to clean, i didn't believe what it did, it leaves my room really clean in 20 minutes, i also like the scheduelar, i wake up every morning and my house is clean.
some times it stucks under furniture but its ok.

i advice to buy one its funny and clean.

Regards...

Robotic Vacuums Review I love it, even though it's not perfect
If you're a pet owner, like I am, this could just be the product you've been dreaming of. You can get all the hair up off the floor every day, while you're doing something else! My carpets have never looked so good. BUT the brushes and dustbin require a lot of maintenance. You have to empty the dustbin after each and every use. Fur gets wrapped in the brushes too easily and it seems I'm forever taking them out and tending to them. And I get frustrated when it gets "confused" and has a hard time heading back to the base. Still, I'm glad I have it.

Robotic Vacuums Review Great, but don't expect miracles
I've had the Roomba for a couple of days and I LOVE it. I've never had this much fun vacuuming before. But reading other reviews I realized that some people have unreasonable expectations of the roomba. It won't leave your room spotless or find every nook and cranny to clean in, but it will do a great job covering 90% of the room.

So here are some pros and cons...

Pros
- Cleans very well. As well as any vacuum I've owned. Although its suction is weaker than most vacuums, it passes over the same area multiple times to get the job done. Picks up dust, hair, staples, rice, etc. with ease.
- Reaches places you never dreamed of reaching with a regular vacuum.
- Easy to use on a daily basis. All you have to do is push a button...or get the scheduler to make your life even easier.
- Quieter than most vacuums. The roomba can work w/o disturbing people in the other room. I can turn it on in the evening w/o my neighbors complaining about the noise.
- Good with pets. My dog, who hates the regular vacuum, was curious but not afraid of the roomba. My friend's dog had a similar reaction.
- Its fun to use! It makes a great gift.

Cons
- Bad for cluttered rooms or rooms with complex furniture arrangements. It just bounces off the furniture on once side of the room w/o ever finding the rest it. It has serious problems getting around chairs, I've had it stuck under a dining room chair for 10 minutes.
- Floor should be clear. Things like clothing, wires, papers must be off the floor or they will get stuck in the brush.
- Has low clearance and it can't get over things like dog food so it just pushes them around the room. I would estimate clearance at less than 1/4".
- May have problems moving from room to room if the transition isn't flat. My living room is about 1" higher than the kitchen and bedroom and it sometimes has trouble doing the climb. Its fine going down from the living room to the kitchen though.
- Very small dust bin. This is especially a problem for carpetted areas. Expect to empty the bin every 2-6 hours of run time. The first run of my bedroom (250 sq. ft., carpetted and VERY dusty) required me to empty the bin twice. But at least I know it's working!
- Long hair tangles in the brushes. It's a bigger problem for this vacuum than others. If this is an issue for you, expect to clean the brush once a week. This takes less than 5 minutes.
- You'll still need a regular vacuum for corners and other crevices that the roomba can't reach because its too big.

Robotic Vacuums Review Fun to watch--good experience
My experience with Amazon and iRobot company has been excellent for this purchase. I bought the reconditioned model through Amazon in February and it had a three-month warranty. I suspected it was defective because would not hold a charge (maximum run time was 10 minutes), though I didn't give up on it quickly. Eventually I went to the iRobot web site for troubleshooting and discovered you could download a manual which I did and in reading it discovered I had a problem that required a call to the customer service.

Before the three months warranty expired, I contacted iRobot (hint--call first thing when their customer service lines open for fastest results) and they recognized the problem immediately, told me the charger was defective and had harmed my Roomba. They had me ship the Roomba and charger back to them which they would replace. I received the brand new Roomba and charger yesterday and it charged up and works perfectly.

So, don't be afraid to buy a reconditioned model at half the price of a new one.

Robotic Vacuums Review No more dog hair!
We have a dog who sheds the equivalent of a whole other dog every week. He's a terrific dog, but the dog hair never stopped, and it seemed like we couldn't groom, sweep and vaccum enough.

Enter Roomba.

I ordered the reconditioned one, which looked brand new and seemed to have some sort of upgraded battery. I charged up the Roomba and set it to work. The first pass of the house took a few hours. The Roomba got clogged a few times on dog hair that collected under the chairs, beds, and other hard to reach places. I opened it up, cleaned it out, and set it back to work. This little thing is relentless, and it got 98% of the hair out of our lives - and it also got rid of the dust bunnies under the beds.

The first pass was certainly the toughest, and now that the house is dog hair free, all we have to do is run it every few days. It does need to be cleaned about once a week, but the brushes are easy to remove and replace.

I gave it four stars because it's still not "perfect." It will still get stuck on obstacles in the house, I think it clogs too easily, and it doesn't seem to be able to find it's home base, but that's nitpicking. Overall, this is great little invention.

Robotic Vacuums Review No reliability, No quality control
One Scooba lasted 3 months, then it lasted less and less time, until it was finally only running for 2 minutes. I exchanged it for a new one. The new one never worked, it never put water on the floor. The next day, I exchanged the second one for a third new one. It also never worked, it never put water onto the floor. My Scooba then turned into a refund! I'll wait for the second generation when this product might actually have some reliability, hopefully.

Robotic Vacuums Review It died after 2 months
I own 2 Roomba Schedulers and love them, so I was really interested in the Scooba. I love my Roombas so much that I gave my parents and my brother each one as presents. That being said....

Living in Florida I have a house that has 2400 sf of tile floors alone so the Scooba would be perfect. I really wanted to wait until the *second generation* to buy one, but the prices dropped from $399 to $299 at many retailers so we said - why wait??!!!

The Scooba is not as awesome as the Roombas but it initially did a pretty decent job on the floors. I have 2 incontinent dogs so it was a godsend. At any rate, after 2 months of using Scooba once every 2 weeks and fastidiously following the instructions, it started to only work for 30 seconds then stop and flash Service Code 1. The iRobot site was (very) unhelpful so I did a Google search and found that I was not the only one this had happened to. I back-flushed the vacuum system and found it had *eaten* a chunk of grout!!!! I don't know if this was the cause of death, but the vacuum part of the Scooba flat out is not working, and it fails diagnostic codes 11, 12 and 13.

I called iRobot and they told me to exchange it at BestBuy where it was purchased. I then called Best Buy and they said they weren't carrying it anymore. What does that tell you?

Beware...

Signed,
A dedicated ROOMBA (not Scooba) fan.

Robotic Vacuums Review iScooba, do you?
If you don't have this wonderful little machine, you are missing out. Lucy(what we have named our little Scooba Bot) cheerfully cleans our hard floors more often than this human would ever want to. What bliss to walk barefoot on completely clean floors after Lucy has done her job! My Scooba works well and really does clean thoroughly. One downside is that most times I do not get two complete cleanings out of the battery. The battery recharges fast so this is not such a giant problem. My kitchen/eating area is large and must be divided into two sections so that the floor gets evenly clean. Please note that the instructions say normal size room and large country kitchens are not "normal" apparently. All things considered though, this little machine sure saves my time while housecleaning. I do not know what I would do without my Scooba now.

Robotic Vacuums Review Works pretty well, reliablility still a question
So far it works pretty well, as a floor sweeper, it isn't really a vacuum. But because we have a dog it does a pretty good job. I am unsure about its reliablility, seems pretty flimsy, I don't think it'll last more than a year, but for 100$ its a pretty good value.

Robotic Vacuums Review Roomba Red
This vacume works great. its amazing how it works, if it hits a dirty spot a blue light comes on and it goes around in a circle till this spot is clean. I won a bid for a home base charger last night, so I am ancious to get it.

Robotic Vacuums Review its good
I usually prefer to just hand sweep the carpet. Im a relatively tidy person and dont see much need in a large upright vaccum. However, Ive heard alot about this amazing product and decided to try it. Not only was a thrilled with its preformance but i think it gives my dog a bit of a free work out as he enjoys chasing the Roomba. It has amazing sucking power for such a little thing. Also the bright color is easy to spot and hard to loose!

Robotic Vacuums Review I love it!
I have had my Roomba for 1 1/2 years and I love it. It gets under things so I don't have to bend to clean under the bed, etc. I don't think this vacuum is intended to replace all of your other cleaning supplies, so I use it mainly to keep my bedroom clean. My allergies are much better since dust under the bed doesn't have to wait for me to feel like getting on my knees to clean. I use it about every other day and it has been great.

Robotic Vacuums Review Just like the Jetsons!!
Rosie from the jetsons was actually pretty annoying.... running around all day complaining, and always needing oil. We just set Roomba in a room, press 'clean', and get out of his way!!

He runs on the linoleum floor in the kitchen after dinner, and usually cleans one one other carpeted room a day. We've had Roomba for 2 weeks and have not used our regilar vaccuum yet.

I was skeptical that this thing would work, and bought it almost as a novelty, but I'm sold on Roomba now. Just make sure there's nothing on the floor for it to get hung up on, and let 'er rip!! This is probably the only 5-star review I've ever given for a product that sucks!! LOL

Robotic Vacuums Review I love my Roomba!
After the initial charge, the Roomba cleaned 4 rooms of my house on one charge. When it was done, the dust bin was pretty full, but still had a bit of room. This was impressive to me b/c it got under the sofas, beds, and dresser which had not been swept under in a long while. It picked up all of the dust and dog hair from my wood floors. I've been using it for a week now and my floors stay so much cleaner for much longer than if I just swept them. After that initial cleaning, I now set it to do a room a day. It's wonderful!

Robotic Vacuums Review Horrible Reliability, Horrible Company, Horrible Service
I was one of the early adopters, to take a chance and buy the original Roomba. It was great! In fact, I probably sold more of these through word of mouth than iRobots own sales force.

I ignored the people that said the Roombas are designed to fail, or break, in about a year (shortly after the Warranty expires). Sure enough, my Roomba lost its logic and just spun around in circles not days after my warranty expired.

Roomba support refused to repair the system and the only option with which I was left was to invest $99 in a replacement system, the Roomba Sage. I asked at the time if the replacement would work with all the extra batteries I bought for my original Roomba and I was told it would. I was also told the replacement would come with a charger and battery. A few weeks later I received the new Roomba to find it did not come with a battery or charger. I proceeded to use it with my existing batteries to find that they are compatible (as Roomba had told me) but they only lasted for 5-minutes in the new Roomba because it has a larger current drain and only works more than five minutes with the new style batteries.

I wrote Roomba about my dissatisfaction and have never received a reply. When I called, I was told that there was no record of my correspondence. As for my replacement Roomba, it was a waste of money as it is a useless fixture on my basement shelf.

All told I spent about $250 for my first Roomba. Another $150 for the replacement batteries and rapid charger and $99 for the replacement Roomba. This totals out at about $500, for one year of use. Take my advice, invest that money in a good Electrolux or Delsey (or even the new Electolux robot vacuum) because it's just not worth the convenience of a Roomba and the inconvenience of dealing with such a sub-standard company.

Robotic Vacuums Review I love this thing!
The Roomba has to be the greatest invention ever. I love this thing. It really does work! I was skeptical at first as I have 4 cats and a dog. By the time Wed-Thurs rolled around after vacuuming on Sat or Sun my living room was covered with hair. Lugging the big vacuum downstairs is always a pain so I didnt vacuum nearly as often as I should.

With the Roomba Red I vacuum like every other day as soon as I notice some fur on the carpet. It does a fabulous job on pet hair. Everyone with at least one mammal at home can benefit from this thing. I vacuum while I am in the shower now!! :)

Everyone asks me if it gets stuck or hangs up on the edges of carpet. The answer is NO! This thing can get itself out of some amazing spots. The first day I had it I was just fascinated by its ability to extricate itself from areas I was sure I would have to retrieve it from. In a month of ownership and probably 10 vacuumings it has gotten so stuck I had to retrieve it 2 times. It shuts itself off if it gets stuck so it doesnt burn out or anything.

I only gave it 4 stars because I think that the manufacturer should put 2 "grabber" brushes on it. It needs one on the opposite side to grab more stuff from corners. It comes with one that does a good job but 2 would be even better. Also it should come with better maintenance tools. It is rather a chore to clean the brushes off after nearly every use but it is worth it. There should just be something else besides the little comb thing they provide with it to make life even easier. The only other minor annoyance is that it "wipes itself" on the edges of carpet when it is getting full. I guess that is a good indication to empty it but still it will leave a clump of fur on the edge of a carpet and that is kind of annoying.

It does both carpet and bare floor very well but dont let it near thin throw rugs, towels or fringe. It WILL get hung up and stuck on them. If you have a lot of fringy rugs this is not for you.

I heartily recommend it to anyone who hates to vacuum and particularly to people with pets.
