Upright Vacuums Review DO NOT BUY
I previously reviewed this product and had nothing but great things to say about it. My opinion has now changed, after owning it for a few months I have had nothing but problems. The first thing to break was the self propel. Then the on and off switch quit working, it just stays on, to turn it off you have to unplug it. Now, it keeps throwing the circuit breaker to my house when you plug it in(brand new house). It is still under warranty, but Hoover says that I have to take it in, and they will only pay the bill if it is their fault. I don't want to take the chance in what they preceive is their fault. This vacuum cleaner should be recalled, I can not imagine it is very safe if it will not even turn off. I just threw away alot of money, and now have to go buy a new vacuum cleaner.

Upright Vacuums Review DO NOT BUY ANY SELF PROPELLED HOOVER VACUUMS
HOOVER HAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE BELTS STRETCHING OUT ON ALL THE SELF PROPELLED VACUUMS, BUT WILL DO NOTHING FOR CUSTOMERS STUCK WITH THEM! WE MUST REPLACE THE DRIVE AND PROPEL BELTS EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS. REDICULOUS POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE

Upright Vacuums Review Not up to expectations
I bought this product in December 2004. After two months of use (about once a week) the on/off switch broke. Eventually after using it for a year (and trying to get Hoover to correct the problem), just before Christmas 2005 I got quite a fright when I started smelling smoke whilst using it. I discontinued the use of the product, and asked Hoover once again to please look at it. Their reply was that I should take it to one of their authorised shops, where they'll repair it, charge me. Then Hoover will see if it was in fact a factory error and only then refund me when they feel they're not in the wrong.

Please. Don't waste your money on this product. It is defnitely not worth it. It is noisy, vacuums carpets well when used to work, but is unable to vacuum floors at all. (One of the options on it).

Sorry, Hoover. But you have lost a loyal customer. (My whole family for 3 generations back has always bought Hoover, including myself...)

Upright Vacuums Review Sucks for the first week, then never sucks right again
This valcuum is great for the first week. Then you have to clean it after every room. Not only the bagless part, but the filter has to be taken outside and beaten. These filters are $25 and only last 1 week, but Hoover says they last for a year. I called Hoover and they said it was time to change the filter, after 1 week. my brand new carpets can't be that dirty. I am sooo sorry I bought this vacuum.

Upright Vacuums Review This Vacuum is HORRIBLE
I really hate this vacuum. I've had mine for 3 years and it's been broken for half that time. The motor melts the belts and the damn thing gets clogged after only cleaning one room in our 4 bedroom house.
I hate this and I'm throwing mine away to buy a better one.

Upright Vacuums Review This Hoover really sucks......NOT!
You know that old adage? "You get what you pay for"? In this case you dont even get that! Brand name and spiffy look attracted me along with the low price.WOO-WEE! I found a bargin , can't wait to get home and try 'er out. Worked great first couple times then simply lost power, NO SUCTION! I cleaned both filters after using unit second time, they clog easily with normal usage. The paper filter has a rubber gasket edge , once you remove it for the first time and clean it , it's hard to get it to seat properly in the bagless housing unit. The allergen filter dosen't seem to do anyhing as far as that musty vacuum smell. I was very disappointed with the machine considering the Hoover name. I learned a lesson on this purchase .The Hoover went to the yard sell. I then ignored the fish hooks in my pockets ,got the money out and purchased a Dyson (which I am very happy with). Don't buy the Hoover Tempo you'll be throwing away your money.

Upright Vacuums Review Want a high maintenance vac? Pick this one!
If you enjoy a product that requires high maintenance to run than you'll love vacuum! You will need to empty the canister EVERYTIME you vacuum. Oh, the filters clog easily, so you will need to clean those out EVERYTIME you empty the canister as well. If you choose to avoid this - it will result in very limited suction.

Up for a good challenge? Try putting the canister back in place - on the 1st or 2nd try.

My teenager and husband hate the vacuum. Silly them they prefer their cleaning tools to be efficient, quick and easy.

So they grab the broom instead.

Upright Vacuums Review RUN AWAY
Junk. The worst vac I ever owned. Agitator burned my carpet. Loses suction. Filters are impossible to find, clog quickly, and can't be cleaned. Avoid this vac like the plague.

Upright Vacuums Review Please learn from my experience !!
Purchased this cleaner for my mother for Xmas. Almost impossible to fit water tank in it's proper placement. It took several attempts before latch could be engaged. Mom refused to use it !!
I used it less than 5 times before the latch finally broke. Phoned customer service at Dirt Devil and was told replacement part not sold. Given number of authorized repair center. I phoned them long distance and was told they couldn't get the part to repair it either. Called Dirt Devil back and explained what I was told. They wanted me to call several other repair centers- none even close to my location. Tried to explain
to customer service what the first repairman said, "where do they think I am going to get the parts to fix it with, but from them".
If, the part is unavailabe how do they think I can repair it`?Asked customer service what could be done. Was told to send unit to their repair center and they "MIGHT FIX IT" they would let me know, but they probably will charge me. This unit is still under
the 2 years warranty. Customer service is a joke. Please don't purchase this piece of junk unless you want to waste money !!!!
Wish I could give it a zero instead of "1".

Upright Vacuums Review Piece of junk
There is nothing else to say except that this product is a piece of junk!!! Don't waste your money!!! I'm trying to figure out the best way to get rid of mine.. If I lived near a Dirt Devil store/outlet, I'd probably just leave it on their lawn! I won't buy ANY other Dirt Devil products in the future...

Upright Vacuums Review Better the second time around
The first machine I bought was nothing but junk. Water spewed out all over the place. I called customer service and was referred to a repair shop. The repair guy called and said it was not worth repairing, Dirt Devil would send a new one to my home. About 5 days later it arrived, redesigned. The solution pedals were alot more simple (the first one had 1 pedal and you couldn't tell if it was on or off This one has 2 pedals.) The suction is awesome. I use ot on my hard wood floors and it picks up everything, including Cocker Spanial hair and the sticky apple juice my 3 year old spills. The waste water canister is not that big so you do have to empty it a few times but if it held any more water it would be too heavy to manuever. Overall I think it's a good value. I use mine weekly and have had many compliments on how good my floor looks.
*one thing I would change is how top heavy it is, it does fall over all the time.

Upright Vacuums Review My first and last Hoover
I've had my Orek since 1998 without any problems. I bought the Hoover Windtunnel (on the recommendation of my sister and sister-in-law) 2 years ago, and this is the third time it needs to be serviced. The first two times it was under warranty -- the first time was because the carpet-height tabs broke off (which I was then told happens frequently); and then because the vacuum wasn't picking up. Not sure how they fixed it -- it may have been a belt.

Now the Embedded dirt light is not working -- it's staying on red/dirty. It may be a gimmick-type feature, but I'd prefer that it work.

Maybe the Orek has lasted so long because there aren't so many features. In any case, it's dependable, easy to use and light weight.

I've had my Orek since 1998 without any problems. One thing I will say...when it works, it does seem to work well.

Upright Vacuums Review Not worth it......
The first month I owned this vacuum it worked pretty well, however that soon changed. The suction on this vacuum has decreased dramatically. We keep the bristles on the bottom clean and clear, however this vacuum now struggles to pick up hair and little pieces of paper. The only way I can pick up lint and paper off the floor is to use the hand held hose (and that is a back breaker).

Also, the hose is very short and the vacuum topples over very easily. I was very disappointed overall with this vacuum especially since it carries the Hoover name.
