Upright Vacuums Review Quick
Just what I wanted! Perfect? No, for that I would get the vacume out. 3 year olds spill cherrios from family room to the other end of the house, no fuss, no problem, sweep 'em up and empty in the garbage, and move on to more important things! note: the handle comes off sometimes, so I glued it on.

Upright Vacuums Review Performs As Well As Can Be Expected
I am old enough to remember when these things were as common as vacuum cleaners. This one picks junk up as well as any other model I can remember. It is unreasonable to expect them to complete the task as well as a good vacuum. You must press down a bit and go over the spot a few times. But, this contraption does have some advantages over a vacuum. It is non-electric (no cord to fuss with), small (fits in a corner), lightweight, and it is QUIET. My one complaint with this model is that the handle (three sections fitting together like a fishing rod) comes loose sometimes when the carpet sweeper is being lifted off the floor. It is a minor nuisance. If you live in a small place without kids or large animals this may be all you need to keep the carpets clean provided you borrow a vacuum and rent a carpet cleaner twice a year. Overall, I'm satisfied with it.

Upright Vacuums Review DON'T NEED A VACUUM
I have an area rug that I constantly have to haul out the huge vacuum everytime I want it to look clean - Now I don't have to do that - I was totally surprised at how well this inexpensive tool cleaned my rug!!!

Upright Vacuums Review I can't believe I like a vacuum!
I'm in the process of sanding and refinishing fairly old wood floors in the front three rooms of my house. The Dyson sucks the dirt and sawdust from between the cracks. It also works well on the carpet sections that I still have to remove. I have a Siberian Husky, who is currently in the process of "blowing his coat". His fur is very soft and light and flies throughout the house in clumps. For the six years I've had him, this has always been a problem. No vacuum has ever been able to handle the amount of fur without spreading it throughout the air, leaving clumps behind and missing bits of it. The Dyson works REALLY well. No more flying fur, and it gets every bit of it up. Which means that when I finish my floors, I won't have stray dog hairs in my lovely new finish. I also have a cat who tends to shed on the furniture. Yep, it grabs that up as well.

Often, when vacuuming with other brands, there was a smell in the air or dust particles. With the Dyson, it just smells normal and clean...no flying particles either. Did I mention that I have four kids, in addition to the dog and cat? Ah yes, bits of paper, dirt tracked in from outside, cheerios dropped on the floor and smashed underfoot, makeup dust from the teen, koolaid powder from the pre-schooler and so on and so forth. It gets all that up too.

I'm impressed. It's easy for me to handle (I'm 5'1") though a touch heavy to bring upstairs and it solves a lot of my cleaning problems. The price was a deterrent, but I'm glad I bit the bullet and invested in this machine. For someone that hates to clean, I can't wait to do my stairs...my bedroom, the hallway, the dining floor and so on. I can't believe I like a vacuum!

In comparison to all other vacuums I've used (generally in the $70 or so range), this one beats all of them hand down. Vacuums don't last long around here, they simply can't handle all of the dust, dirt, pets, kids, home projects, etc. going on. The Dyson is the first one I can see lasting longer than 2 to 3 years. It's an ingenious design and I love the fact that I simply pull up a switch to empty the bin.

Mine came in two days (shockingly fast), was easy to put together (course, I DID read the instructions) and is easy to use. There are things you need to get used to (placement off on/off button, pressing your foot down to move the handle and the way that you use the wand), but once you figure it out I found it pretty intuitive so it's not a real issue. Mine came in perfect shape - looks new, works well and I really do like this vacuum though it's still difficult to comprehend how I could when I view vacuums as a necessary evil. Still, the fact remains - I really like this vacuum.

Upright Vacuums Review Unreliable
I too was very impressed by this vacuum when I first purchased it (about 2 years ago). The suction was outstanding (and still is when it works), and the self-propelled feature was a nice bonus. I vacuum up a great deal of dog hair and it constantly clogs the vacuum. I have long hair that wraps around the beater bar and stops it from working and you have get down on the floor and pull all the hairs and strings out before you can finish vacuuming. I have also had issues with the belt, which I have not been able to buy anywhere but a vacuum store. Today was the last straw when the beater bar once again would not turn. All the hair, strings, etc., were removed, I put in a new belt ($7) and it still won't work. Turns out the switch to go from hard surface to carpet no longer works! This vacuum has made it's way to the garage - next step is the garbage. I'm back to my trusty old Kenmore cannister vac with the smashed hose - at least it works!

Unfortunately I liked this vacuum so much when I first got it that I recommended my sister buy one. She's also having similar problems with hers.

Upright Vacuums Review Broke down after 6 months
I bought this vacuum last year because it was rated #1 by Comsumer reports. It worked pretty well and I was happy with it.

Until it broke down and can't be powered up anymore last week, that is 6 months of regular use. I would say I only use it for about 15 times, for about 15-20 minutes each. It is still under warranty and I have sent it to the repair center.

On the comsumer reports, it is said that the repair rate for hoover vacuum is about 10%. I guess I am among that unlucky 10%. I don't know what is wrong with it, but I would expect it last longer for an expensive vacuum like this.

Upright Vacuums Review Fairly satisfied...
I have enjoyed my Eureka vacuum, but the ezine where I read about it (Tips du Jour), the lady that was touting it said that it comes with an extra, rechargable battery.
I did not receive an extra battery with mine.

Upright Vacuums Review Does what I'd hoped it would
The little Eureka was impressive for a cordless. The only let down I had when I opened the box is there was no back up batterry that I was led to believe would be included. I had heard about the product through Tips Du Jour where a subscriber had raved about it, so maybe that was a special offer that I missed out on. A second battery would cost almost as much as the vac!
I also had to pay shipping, again was led to believe that would have been included by the TDJ subscriber rave, so the was an initial let down. I decided to go ahead anyway because I needed a second vac and was intrigued; we have a lot of stairs, a big house and too mant cats. It does do a great job on cat hair!
The battery and shipping issues cost a star, but it is a good little worker. Allison

Upright Vacuums Review Eureka 96B a Good Buy
I am overrall pleased with the purchase. The unit is not too noisy, the suction is good and I like the rotary brush that can be activated for carpeting. After each vacuuming, I'm surprised at how much it picks up....we have 3 cats. My only suggestion for new buyers is for them to purchase a second battery...the original one lasts about 20 minutes or so and I don't charge it until it's fully drained due to the memory retention effect of Nickel Cadmium batteries.

Upright Vacuums Review I've now had 2 of these with the same problem
First of all, I never leave negative reviews of products on Amazon because I hate being a complainer. I felt the need to warn others about my experience with this model. I was so excited about this vacuum when I first got it. Everything was awesome. The suction is great, the cord is longer than other models. I didn't have any problems with it whatsoever and was prepared to happily keep this for years. After about 5 weeks of normal use, it started making a horrible noise and a strong burning odor filled my house. My husband took it apart and the belt had slipped off and was melting the plastic next to it. He fixed it once and then it happened again. I notified Amazon and they let me return it for a replacement (hoping it was just a freak incident). Well just yesterday, after 6 weeks of use, my 2nd vacuum did the exact same thing. I am so frustrated because I love this vacuum. I read some other reviews about problems with the belt. I told Amazon to let Bissell know about it so they can recall it. I have another Bissell model and have never had a problem with it, so this is in no way a negative review of the Bissell brand. I just wanted to let potential buyers know that there's a pretty good possibility that this could happen to other units as well. Please shop around before you take a chance on this.

Upright Vacuums Review A good investment, for certain purposes
I got my Hoover F5520 SteamVac Duo about 6 months ago and have used it several times. Out of the package, I had it going in a few minutes with just a glance at the instruction sheet. The operation is very straightforward, and I haven't had any problems with either the clean water reservoir or the dirty water reservoir leaking or being difficult to handle. It also cleans really well - I did my entire dining room (the reason I bought the thing in the first place) the first day, and the difference in the carpet's appearance was striking. It works great on new spills, and I found the two cleaning solutions included to be very useful.

Overall, I only have 3 cautionary comments about the F5520: First, it has a very narrow face, only 8 or 9 inches wide. This means it takes a lot of passes to do a whole room, although it's okay on a small spill. Second, it is Really Loud, much louder than my regular vacuum; my ears ring after using it, so that means I don't use it as much as I might otherwise. Third, I find that when pushing it from place to place, my hand depresses the water squirter (on the underside of the handle), so that I have to go back and suck up all the water between the spots I was cleaning. This happens even with the vacuum unplugged.

In general, I would recommend the Hoover for an apartment or home where spills are small, and for occasionally doing one room at a time for overall wear. It's a good quality product for a great price, and very easy to use.

Upright Vacuums Review Love the DUO
This steamvac is so easy to use and it performs very well. My carpets are clean and they dried fast. The steamvac is light weight but built well. It held up for two long flights of stairs and all the carpeting, and is stored in a place that is easy to reach for spot cleaning. I had bought a larger Hoover a couple of years ago and returned it. It was too awkward and not as well built as this one. I do have a combo of hardwood flooring, ceramic tile, and wall-to-wall carpeting. If the entire home were carpeted, I would opt for professional cleaning since this smaller unit would take too much time (in terms of width of cleaning path and frequent refills). For my use, it fits the bill.

Upright Vacuums Review Belts burning the casing
Loved this vacuum---at first!! The first couple weeks were great, then the belt slipped, the whole thing started smoking!! The belt burned through the inside casing and now won't stay in place. I've seen other reviews where this happened, so definitely nopt just my problem. I was very disappointed. Also the spinner brush stopes easily, as soon as you get any hair in it. Would not recommend at all.

Upright Vacuums Review We love the vacume.........
Great suction, low noise. Looks great. The attachment hose for doing stairs is too short, so when I am vacuuming stairs I have to bend really down. Not easy.

    Upright Vacuums Review Pleasantly Surprised
I was a bit worried when I first bought this, since the box didn't list any specifics about the power level of the cleaner. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. If you want a great vacuum but don't want to spend the equivalent of a car payment on a Dyson, buy the EmPower. It's pretty powerful, and the pet attachment does exactly what it's supposed to do. I was kind of freaked out with all the dirt, dust and pet hair that ended up in the cannister, but seeing all that plus a clean carpet gives you a pretty good feeling of satisfaction. The cord is extra loooong, which makes going from room to room easier, and the brushes on the bottom of the vacuum really work the nap of the carpet to make it look brand new when you're done. The rotating brushes also create a traction feature, like a lawnmower, that makes it glide across the carpet surface - since I'm so used to pushing crummy cleaners, it almost flew out of my hand the first time I used it. I agree about the "hush" mode feature, however - sounds like a regular vacuum to me. But since I didn't buy it for that feature (who looks for a quiet vacuum?), I don't care that it's really a non-feature.

I suspect Hoover is phasing this model out, since it's on sale practically everwhere I see it (I got mine at Home Depot), but as long as they continue to sell the filters, this is going to be my primary vac for a long time to come. It's a great buy at this price and higher.

Upright Vacuums Review Great for the price!
I picked this vacuum up over the weekend literally because I saw it on clearance on an endcap at Target. It said it did well on hardwood floors, worked well with pet hair (we have 2 dogs and 2 cats) I wanted onboard attachments, AND to top it all off it was green--my favorite color! I immediately came home and vacuumed our bedroom. It was so disgustingly full of pet hair that I can't believe we were walking on that carpet! My husband loves the upholstery attachment. It's one thing to suck dirt off a couch, it's another to have an attachment that has a mini brush to actually power dirt and pet hair away! The only thing is that the "hush" mode doesn't work. I don't need it to work but I think it's a funny feature to have, because it sounds exactly the same.

Upright Vacuums Review It's a Honey!
Good compact vac for use in smaller dwellings. It could be used in bigger homes or apts but you need to keep in mind the cord isn't too long. My place is 538.5 square feet so it is ideal for me. It rolls smoothly over shorter carpets opposed to the thick types. The filter is $10.00 to replace found easily at Eureka's website. To avoid frequent costly filter replacements, I go through and manually clean it myself. Of course you could replace it every time it is full but that will cost you. Overall you will be very pleased with this vac. I have had mine for about 2 months and still love it. Other reviews pointed out that is not very good on bare floors. True. Understand that the exhaust does blow out the front, hence causing dust and dirt to blow. So if you want a product to sweep floors buy something specifically for that job. Although you could sweep the dirt into a pile and use the hose to suck up the pile.

My favorite feature overall is the setting that allows you to have suction from the bottom of the vac or just the hose (ideal for stair use and around edges).

Again, look around and compare and contrast. Hope this helps.

    Upright Vacuums Review Phenomenal!
Today, after my old vacuum bit the dust, I went and stood in the vacuum isle for an hour contemplating and toiling over which one to get. I was so skeptical about this little machine because it is very small. But it had this "33" cleaning rating on the box where others had 20's so for the price, I gave it a shot. I got it home and took it all out of the box and groaned at the thought of putting it all together. Took five minutes and no screwdriver. I looked at it and thought, this thing is so small how well could it work? Ok, I plugged it in, Nice smoothly quiet engine. Not loud. Impressive. Somehow it seems to glide. Nice! Easy to push on my wtw carpet. Instantly I saw "stuff" spinning around inside the canister. This thing is so easy to push, (great for my back & neck), has amazing suction power, and best of all its SO flexible, it goes under EVERYTHING, even my entertainment center. It's narrow so it fits in places my old wide vac didn't. It fit under my dresser, nightstand, under every table and small place, awesome! It even fit between the toilet and the walls, got all the dust bunnies out from every crack and crevice in every room. Leaves nice brush marks in the carpet so you can see where you've been. I popped the attachments on the hose and they fit so nicely, no struggling, I then dusted everything in the living room. I did half the house and went to empty the canister, HOLY #&@#! the thing was packed! Like my old vac must not have been working at all! I was never so thrilled to see so much dirt in my life. It was so "fun" to push this little demon around I vacummed the whole house twice. I only stopped becuase it was 11:30 and didn't want to wake the world. My name is Joanne, I live in New Jersey and I'm not paid by anybody to say this. I don't leave reviews for stuff but always read them. I really believe in this little Eureka.. it is phenomenal for the price. I highly recommend it. I think I'll give everyone I know one for Christmas.

    Upright Vacuums Review LOVE IT!
I got this used off Craiglist at half the price, but had I known it worked so well I would've paid full price. This vacuum is awesome! I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about but it has not scratched my hardwood floors at all. It works great, has amazing suction for something so cheap and small, and it's designed like everything should be. Every little attachment fits right on the vacuum and doesn't fall off while you're using it, the cup is easy to clean (though the filter takes some work, but that's what you get w/ a bagless).

The only drawback (not even that much) is that it scares my cat because it is so loud :-) However, I do actually enjoy vacuuming now!
