Great productShould you really pay 3x as much as a standard upright? After buying one our answer is yes.
All the DC14's are the same, it becomes a matter of which tools you want to come with the unit. The color scheme changes with the options, but our vacuum is stored in a closet so who cares? The unit is lightweight and appears to be made of very strong plastic composites. We find the low reach floor tool and the mini turbine attachment to be very useful, and the electronics dusting attachment as well.
This is a great product. Dyson makes 2 claims that are true. The vacuum does not lose suction as the bin fills, and more importantly it really does suck up a great deal of sand, dirt, hair, fur etc. that our old Hoover windtunnel left behind.
We have two black labs and have vacuumed at least once a week. We simply did not know how much dirt and fur we were leaving in our carpets. It was amazing to watch the DC14 go over what we thought was a clean light beige berber rug. Each pass showed a lighter, cleaner color and the clear bin in the front of the vacuum was filling up fast. We wound up filling and emptying the bin at each room. Fortunately, the waste bin is truly easy to empty as advertised.
I wish we had one for the last twenty years.

Worst ever!Thought I would save a few dollars and bought this piece of junk for our lake cabin. If anything could go wrong, it did. Handle breaks easily. Nothing stays on board. Suction horrible. Hoses stretch out of shape after just a few uses. Belt slips and burns. Tips over VERY easily. Incredibly loud. Filter is useless. Worst purchase I have ever made. Spend the money and get something that will function and last! I can't even give this 1 star but had no other option. Would have used a negative if I could.
beware its junki bought this vacuum cause its cheap and a dirt devil well after one use the motor blew so amazon sent another and it had missing parts aswell as a bad motor again! so i got a refund and bought a similar priced bissel that works great and was a breeze to put together get a bissel

Never even got a chance to use itThe product page said there were over 20 in stock and that it would ship in 24 hrs. so I ordered one to be shipped 2nd day air. After three days and half a dozen miserable technical support nightmare telephone calls it still hadn't arrived (the tracking number and shipping company confirmed that it had not even been picked up) and I finally got someone to cancel the order and ship another one overnight.
ANOTHER three days (actually 5 days because the replacement order was placed on a Friday) and more marathon unbelievably inane telephone calls and I got someone to cancel the order and refund the money. Why? Because EXACTLY the same thing happened again, the tracking number and the shipping company confirmed that the package had not even been picked up.
In all of this, Amazon refused to take any responsibility -- they accused me of already receiving the item. They told me that it was lost in shipping (both times)... when the shipping company clearly contradicted their statements.
I will never make another Amazon order. These people do not run a fair or even honest online store.

great little suckerI bought this on a deep discount (day after Thanksgiving, $79 at Menard's) and I've used it a few times but I think it does an awesome, awesome job. The upholstry tool is great -- I have 2 cats and one is long-haired and this does great on our furniture. This vac does very well on bare wood floors and short pile rugs but I don't know about deep pile carpet since I don't have any. My husband and I definitely wanted a bagless, since that's why we can no longer use the old vacuum cleaner -- Sharp stopped making vacuum cleaners and you can't buy bags or belts anywhere except on line.
Provided I don't have the same service issues as the other reviewer had I'll be very happy for a long time -- at least 6 years, since that's how long the warranty lasts. There are a few small drawbacks - the brush attachment is angled differently than my old vac and can be hard to use, especially under furniture. Also the vac is heavy -- heavier than my Sharp was. The on switch and release pedal are plastic and have a flimsy feel to them and the cord comes out near the floor, making it hard to keep out of the way. But so far, so good -- my nephew bought one and sold me on it and then his mother bought one too, so our family now owns 3!

Pleasantly SurprisedI'm hard to please because I pretty much hate all vacuum cleaners, but this one surprised me. We've been using it for over a month now, and I can say without reservation that I like it. This model is quieter than any other vacuum cleaner we've used (although that's not saying much because most sound like leaf blowers), and it cleans the carpet exceptionally well. The attachments are long enough, and the push-/pull-assist is responsive and a great help. I like the semi-retro look, too. The only reason I gave it four starts instead of five is because it's fairly heavy, but at least the recessed handle is in a logical place so that it's well balanced while carrying.

Horrible product, deplorable serviceDon't waste your money. I have a model very similar to this, except it's sold in Canada, it's purple, and it does not say Shark on it. It's made by Euro Pro and is otherwise identical.
Within a month the rotating brush clogged with hair and jamme - I'd used it twice. I stopped the vacuum right away to clear it, but it was too late. The gear on the side of the brush had overheated in seconds and broke in pieces, rending that attachment useless.
I planned to deal with customer service on this issue, but was already very unhappy with them because of an order I'd placed for replacement filters. They sell the product in Canada, but you can only order filters from the US. I placed an order and waited ... and waited. I noticed they had charged my credit card, and then refunded it 2 weeks later. I'd received no notice of a cancelled order. Just my luck, they charged me when the exchange rate was higher, so my refund was less than my original purchase. I called to ask why I'd been refunded and the rep was useless and rude. She said she'd just place the order again. I wanted to know why the first order was cancelled before ordering again, and she ignored me and offered to re-order. I asked again what happened the first time, and she said that obviously I was at fault and clearly they had been mailed out and returned as I had not been home to receive them. I pointed out that I'd recieved no notice of shipping, no parcel notice from my post office, and no notice of return, and asked if her files showed any delivery attempts or noted a returned order. She ignored me and offered to reorder in an exasperated tone. I asked again, and she checked the file (you'd think I'd have been asking her to jump through a flaming hoop), said there was no inoformation about a package ever shipping or being returned, but refused to explain why she'd insisted this was so. I asked again why they had been cancelled and she said she would re-order them. I said I did not want to re-order until I knew what the problem had been, and wanted to know if the items were even in stock. She said she had no idea of they were in stock, but if I would just reorder them I'd find out if they arrived a few weeks later (I'm serious, she said this). Again, I asked to know why the first order had been refunded and noted that I'd lost money on it, and that they should not have taken my money in the first place if they did not have the items. She said again, "look, I can just order them again. This went on for some time and finally I said "look, I'm asking you a direct question and I'd appreciate if you would stop ignoring me and at least attempt to find out." She finally replied, "look, I don't know, but I can reorder them, okay? You don't need any more information on that order."
I was so ticked, but wanted to have some spare filters so I did place the order and gave up in disgust. For the next six months I got a monthly card in the mail saying they were out of stock. The canadian postage label covered any information about who the cards were from, so for the first few months I could not figure out who was sending them (they just said "a product you have ordered is not available and will be sent when new stock arrives in a few days." Brilliant.)
Six months later I finally got my filters. These are a standard item for a model that is in current production.
Their rep has been so useless and so rude that I decided it was not worth getting service for the item (oh, you have to ship it back to the US to get it fixed).
This model has lousy suction, and spits up half of what is does pick up when you turn it off (shut if off over your garbage pail). The filters get clogged fast, and tons of dust seeps out around the seams. I use it to pick up small grain cat little from my carpet and it yacks it all back up if I tip it at all. It loses suction after picking up only a tiny amount of dust, even with a clean filter. The front can be very hard to get latched back on after you empty it.
It's a very poor quality product, but their customer service is even worse. I got the feeling that the person I spoke to just wanted me off the phone, though I began by being very polite to her.
I'll never buy a EuroPro product again. I don't think I just got a faulty model, because all aspects of the product are bad quality. Also, because the service is so poor, you can't rely on any assistance if the model breaks. It's too risky.
I have a Bissel carpet cleaner that is head and shoulders above the quality of any other vacuum product I've owned. All of the little details are superior. Buy Bissel if you can.

Why didn't I buy the Dirt Devil?I bought this item and was satisfied with it for the first 100 days or so until it completely stopped working. Euro Pro support is HORRIBLE. It took them 6 weeks from the date I called them to send me a new adapter; my unit still did not work with the new adapter. Then they told me they could fix it, but would charge me shipping and handling both ways. I am just going to throw it out and buy the Dirt Devil I should have bought in the first place. I had one that I bought used and worked for years.
Works like a charmThis product works great for cleaning up after my children and dog. I use it to clean up the crumbs after the children eat and to clean up the dog hair(I have a long haired daschund). You do have to empty it out after every use, but other than that I think this hand vac works wonderfully.

Up for a good challenge? Try putting the canister back in place - on the 1st or 2nd try.
My teenager and husband also hate this vacuum. They prefer their cleaning tools to be efficient, quick and easy.
So they grab the broom instead.
