Get what you pay forBought the vacuum for it's low price, small size and being bagless. It works just OK.
It overheats quickly, so it is best to use it quickly and turn it off during any pause in cleaning.
After about 3-4 uses, emptying the dust and shaking out the filter after each use and washing the filter once, the filter seems to have degraded permanently. Now suction starts out just adequately and weakens fairly quickly. Blowing out the filter with the vacuum exhaust helped a little.
Removing the dust bin from the unit is easy, but then the filter assembly has to be coaxed out of the bubble shaped bin leaving two messy things to hold, neither of which can be cleaned well without setting the other down. I usually try to do it outside or in the sink.
Overall, I guess I got what I paid for. I like that it fits in a very small space.

thunder vacThis little vacuum is almost perfect. I use it for everything except on my carpet.
If it only had a holder for all the attachments.
cavet- be sure to empty the container. It shut down on me because it overheated but cooled down & works fine.

I hope they redesignedI have the model 410A and it is absolutely horrible. I only have an apartment and one cat and the vacuum's foam filter has to been cleaned after I barely get through one room. I get about a quarter inch of dirt or hair in the holder and I have to stop and clean the filter. Only positive I see in this vacuum is that it is small, good for storage in an apartment. Don't waste your money. I can't believe people actually like this vacuum unless they significantly redesigned the filter.
Decent vacuum for light use, but doesn't hold up to extended use. I know this is the 410BT version of the vacuum, but I bought the 410AT version back in December 2002 (I'm assuming the BT is just a newer version of the same vacuum). Hopefully they've improved on some of the flaws in the updated model.
When I bought the vacuum back in 2002, I was originally pleased with the suction power and lightweight. I can handle this vacuum easily with one arm and move it up and down the stairs in my 3-story townhouse. Suction power is acceptable (*only* when the filter is freshly cleaned and empty) on carpet, pretty bad on hardwood floors, and good with the attachment.
Having owned and used this thing for 3 years, here are some of the flaws I've found over time. First, the vacuum is not particularly sturdy. It just doesn't "feel" very solid or well made. The seals and gaskets around the filter system are also pretty flimsy which affects its performance. I've had to unjam the rollor a couple of times when it got clogged by my girlfriend's long hairs (we have no pets). However, I will admit that I'm not sure if this is a common problem for people with long hair and vacuum. It could be something that you just have to deal with and be aware of. It's also possible this contributed to the second problem I've had, which is that the roller will sometimes stop working after some extended use. Turning the vacuum off, banging on it a little bit and turning it back on will usually fix the problem and the roller will start working again. As other people have mentioned, the capacity of the filter system is puny and the filter gets clogged very easily which really cuts down on the suction power. My house is about 2000sq ft of hardwood floors and carpet, but I have to empty the filter cup after every floor or set of stairs. Granted, I vacuum very infrequently, but that has been my experience. Lastly, related to the filter design, I've found it to be pretty "leaky". By leaky, I mean that the vacuum does a very poor job of trapping dirt and dust that has been sucked up. I can tell because of how dirty the housing of the vacuum gets after each and use and cleaning. The area around the exhaust gets coated with a fine layer of white dirt/dust which got passed the filter. It seems to pass a lot of dirt through the system and just spit it back into the air...
Overall, I'll say the vacuum was worth the money I paid for it. I bought it on sale from Amazon with a bunch of coupons and discounts, so it was very cheap. I'd say I got my money's worth in 3 years (I'm looking for a replacement right now), but knowing what I know now I would definately not pay full price for this vacuum. I wouldn't buy this for anything other than light-use (perhaps a college dorm room or small apartment?). You'll want to go with something better for a townhouse or bigger.
Pros: Small, lightweight, good attachment suction, cheap (if you can get it on sale)
Cons: Not very durable, poor filter system/effectiveness, build quality.

Excellent, durable, and convenient for small living spacesI have had the 410A model of this vacuum for over five years, and I think it is outstanding. If you have a small apartment (not a huge house), it is ideal. The refuse bin is very easy to empty, and the removable filter is easy to clean by flicking it several times against a trashcan. You can wash the filter in water on the very rare occasions that the foam gets saturated with dust. It is easy to disassemble if you get usually large leaves or hair stuck in the internal piping. (Other reviews noting low suction power perhaps have something stuck inside). I have saved an enormous amount of money on filters with this durable and convenient workhorse, and I never had to run out to buy filters or bags.

Cute but wouldn't recomend it.I bought this vacuum cleaner about five months ago and was disappointed the first time I used it - the same time the little red pads underneath fell off. I have to agree with a previous reviewer and say that this is the worst vacuum I have had. It is definitely not to be used on any carpet or rug of any depth. And I am not too impressed with its performance on tile or wooden floor, either. This little thing is only adequate for small clean up jobs; the kind of things your mother did with a broom. It has very light sucking power which I found a little frustrating. Also, expect to replace the very small and rather expensive bag in this vacuum cleaner fairly often. Unfortunately, mine broke down before I even needed a new set of bags. It may be just bad luck, but I have had problems with another DeLonghi product in the past.
The only advantage I see in this vaccum cleaner is its light weight and ability to get into some hard to reach places. On the other hand, you can just as well use the attachments in your regular vacuum cleaner for those cleaning jobs and also enjoy the benefit of the excersise.

returnedthis item was impossible to use. I have hardwood & tile floors, with very low area rugs. you cannot touch the rugs or the lint strips will come off, this was the worst vacuum I have ever used and am very upset that I have to pay return fees because the item wasn't properly decribed and no picture of under carriage was shown. I would recommend dirt devil swifter vac over this any day and costs less.
Great electric broomI own an earlier version of this machine (w/o the final X in the model number) and have been very pleased with it. It is well engineered (I bought it to replace one that blew the exhaust downward, blowing away dust and dirt before you could get to it!), light weight, and easy to maneuver, and is excellent for quick pickups on bare floors or low-pile rugs. I like the cord storage (easy to get it off the hooks and into action), and the dust bag replacement is easy. It works like a charm on dog hair, dust bunnies, spilled kitty litter, or crumbs on the floor (or in the bed). You can also remove the brush and use the bare nozzle to dust the tops of baseboards, etc.
As an electric broom, I'd give it 4 or 5 stars. But it should not be mistaken for a general purpose vacuum cleaner. It is a very satisfactory secondary tool.

Know what you want...This vacuum is, without a doubt, the best vacuum I have ever used! I had been searching for the perfect vacuum to suit my needs (every room in my home except the kitchen and bathroom has high pile carpeting); I also did not want to pay a small fortune. I found exactly what I was looking for in this vacuum. Please be aware though, that this is not a vacuum for everyone. 1)It is no lightweight, weighing in at 18lbs. (Who needs to lift weights? lol) 2)It has a shake out cloth bag (This is a BIG plus for me-- I dislike vacs with cups as I find they fill up too quickly in my large home, and I have always had a really hard time finding the right size paper bag for any other vac). 3)It has no attachments (easily remedied with the purchase of an inexpensive canister for edge cleaning and quick jobs). 4)It has a 50 foot power cord-- I LOVE being able to vacuuum most of the house without having change the plug! (though it takes a bit longer to wind up the cord). 5)Overall this vacuum is designed to do ONE job really well-- CLEAN CARPETS. (ie, don't try to clean hardwood or tile with it, but, for me, that is what my broom is for). No other vacuum I have ever used has worked this well (I have been trying friends' and family's for quite a while now, trying to figure out what I want, but now I think I'll stick with vacuuming my own house). Even my neighbor has commented on how much better my carpets look and feel. This is one powerful vacuum!
It was exchanged for a new one.
Shortly after, the switch on the new one malfunctioned.
I took the $60 trade in allowance offered to me at the vacuum repair store and used it to buy a new Simplicity model.
So far the new one is working fine.
In the past, when I thought of vacuums I thought of Hoover.
Now, I think - stay away from Hoover. Times change.
