I can't tell you how well the vacuum works, because when I was taking my $500+ vacuum out of the box, it snapped in half. This alone tells me it is not good quality. I have spent at least 3 hours on the phone, shipping it back, getting PARTIAL credit for my return...and have never received an apology!! Is this how they do business? I am still trying to get my account resolved, but when you call customer service they seem un-interested and there is no supervisor or manager to talk to, apparently they have really good working hours!! Unless you're up for a good fight and inferior quality (total opposite of what is advertised), I don't recommend dealing with this company. All I wanted was an apology and a product that worked...I guess I was asking for too much!!

I hate this vacuum. I go through belts like crazy. Not only do the belts break easily, but I had smoke coming from mine. I've taken it to be repaired and now I am getting ready to take it in again. I love the small vac. that comes with it, but that's about it. Like another user, I hate vacuuming my floor too because something always happens to it. And I'm pretty careful with it. My aunt has an older model (80's or so) that works a lot better than my new one.

The light weight of the Oreck vacuum cleaner is nice. However, it won't get lint off carpet that is 'stuck.' You have to go over the same area several times. The most frustrating thing is that in order to get the base plate off (it gets clogged under there), you have to remove 5 screws. Some dummy at Oreck decided that the screws should be recessed 1 full inch, apparently so you can't see the screw heads and wind up stripping the screws, and then you have to take the stupid thing to an Oreck dealer. Hey you people at Oreck, wake up! Make the thing user friendly! The best thing about the Oreck is the little canister that comes with it, which is very user friendly. Of course this canister, if bought by itself, is very much overpriced.

I just received this vacuum cleaner today and have had a few problems already. When I first started using it I noticied a burning smell and noticed smoke coming out of the base. I then realized that the "carpet-bare floor selector" was not in the correct position according to the product manual (this can cause the belt to rub on it and create the burning smell). This lever is VERY DIFFICULT to adjust between the carpet and bare floor option. After moving it completely into position I noticed that the lever continued to pop back and would not stay in place and of course the vacuum cleaner continues to smoke while using it. Also the cord does not push easily into the 2 cord clips on the back of the handle.
I'm in the process of contacting Panasonic to see if there is a solution. The price of the vacuum cleaner was unbeatable and it is an attractive design, but I'm afraid it has some fatal flaws. I seem to be the only one out of all the reviews who has experienced the problems above.

This is without a doubt the best vacuum I have ever owned! It has super sucking power that stands the carpet like it's brand new. The attachments will clean out any nook or cranny in a second. The machine is light enough and small enough to push around anywhere. The cord recoil works fine for me. I've owned it for almost a year, and actually look forward to using it. And at this price? You won't even think of looking elsewhere, my friend. Hey, why isn't Amazon offering this little gem any longer? Don't make me come down there......

I have nothing but good things to say about this vacuum! It has great suction and the beater mode cleans my carpets better than any vacumm I have had. I can make a pass over the carpets and they actually are cleaned as opposed to having to go back over and over again as has been the case with any of my previous vacuums. Likewise with the wand attachment. It picks up cat fur like no other, I can actually see the cat pillow becoming cleaner as I go over it. It also is the first vacuum that has not given me an allergy attack when I use it.

I'd suggest a couple of improvements, make the wand hose a little longer and the brush head so that it pivots. Besides that, I can't think of anything else. In my opinion this vacuum is a great value for the money.

I've had this vacuum since 2001, and 5 years later it is still a great vacuum! I love that it is easy to care for, no bags to empty, good suction strength. Though not self-propelling, it's not too heavy or hard to push. I'd buy it again!

It is the best vacuum cleaner I've ever had! We have a big dog with a lot of hair; and as much as I love my dog I absolutely can't stand to see or feel hair or dust everywhere. Hoover was recommended to us by a person who has dogs. And I don't regret for a minute that we've got it!
We vacuum clean once a week and the bag (or rather container that is very easy to clean) is full every time. It is scary to see all this dirt and hair (that what we breath in!), but what a relieve is to see that Hoover actually cleans it all!
Easy to clean, easy to operate, not too heavy, perfect for people with dogs.
The only thing that surprised us was that we had to buy a new filter that goes inside the chamber after about a year of weekly use. It doesn't say in the manual that it needs to be changed periodically, but apparently we have a lot of dirt that clogged it. But it is still worth it.

My model was a Hoover U6616-900 WindTunnel Self Propelled Bagless Upright

This thing was great for two months while it lasted. The first 800 sq foot of carpet looks great compared to the rest of the house. However the Hoover went up in smoke. The manual says it has an over heat cut-off, but it over heated and all I could see was smoke. I had to air the house out. Taking the machine to the only authorized repair in the area 30 miles away, they laughed when they saw me coming in with the vacuumed. The said don't tell us it over heated. Yep and the motor fried $$$$$.

I admitted that the house was extra dirty but that was no excuse. Their official stand is that the final filter was too dirty and it was my fault. I should not have relied on the heat cutoff and not let my filter get dirty. WHAT! Not let the filter get dirty. Yep if it gets dirty all warranties are off.

The dealer said any fool that would buy a Hover that is now made by Maytag off shore deserves what I got.

So much for the Warranty.

I have owned 2 Fantom vacuums- and the one I am currenty using (this model) will be the last! The first one died unexpectedly about 5 months after I purchased it- the company went out of business and so I had NO recourse, no warranty...nada!

Foolishly, I bought another Fantom. I have had this one for about 1 year and since then, the belt has broken 3 times, the hose constantly comes disconnected from the main unit, the plastic holder that keeps the cord wound has broken off AND it mysteriously turns off and back on while I am vacuuming!

When it works, it works very well...unfortunately, it just doesn't work that often! :(

When I decided it was time to retire my 35 year old electrolux canister, I knew I didn't need a super expensive vac because my needs would change when I moved from my apartment into a larger house in a few years. SO, I gave myself a 150.00 budget and looked around for a vacuum with the most suction, the ability to not get clogged on the tons of fur my two kitties constantly shed, and one that had attachments to get the fur off the furniture. Well, the Fantom does the job and then some. It effortlessly moves from my berber rugs to my hardwood floors and even to my super thick luxury carpet without adjusting anything. AND the suction - the suction is amazing!! I had vacuumed with my old vacuum two days before buying the fantom and it still picked up enough fur and dirt to make-up a whole new pet!!! Not only that, but on the hardwood floors, the dust bunnies come to you! The attachments are definitly an afterthought and not the best out there, but that's my only drawback so far.

I am very pleased with this product. It is great for picking up dog hair. I had a Hoover before and we had to replace the roller bar every 4-6 mo. because the dog hair wound around the ends and caused them to melt. The hair does not even catch on the roller bar with Fantom it goes in the canister. It is easy to empty. I clean the filters with a soft brush and dish detergent and it never has a musty smell like vacuums with bags do.
