Upright Vacuums Review fantastic
I've had this vacuum for several months now and am still very pleased. I'm not one to get excited about housework or anything related, but this vacuum is fantastic. We have two large dogs and I have to say, the dust is down a bit and the carpets have lost that "dog smell".

I could not believe the amount of filth that came out of my carpets. I called people, I was like an info-mercial for this thing -- it really sucks up the dirt.

This vacuum is great on large carpeted areas. It works well on area rugs too, but watch the height settings, if it is too low it really puts the wear and tear on the rug edges. As stated in other reviews, the drawbacks are that you have to use the attachments if you really want to get carpet edges and corners. Also, it is not the best on bare floors and the floor setting switch is a bit hard to turn (I thought I was breaking it the first time I changed settings).
These drawbacks are minor in comparison to the amount of crud this thing gets out of my home. I don't even mind the frequency of emptying the container -- I am glad each time that all that stuff is no longer in my carpet ( you will be amazed!).
Last thing, if you do not like to actually touch dirt, I wouldn't recommend a bagless. There is contact with the dirt while cleaning the filters and emptying the container. However, if overall cleanliness is for you, then so is this vacuum. This vacuum picks up like no bag having vacuum ever could. I love it.

Upright Vacuums Review This vacuum cleaner sucks.... and sucks.
I purchased this vacuum cleaner about half a year ago, and it is still working extremely well. I previously had another Eureka Whirlwind vacuum cleaner (some earlier model I purchased about 5 years ago); well, my previous model kept clogging, and clogging so I definitely needed something new. So, as you can imagine I was a little bit apprehensive about purchasing another Eureka; however, have no fear... this machine is awesome.

To be quite honest, I put a lot of credence in the reviews and opinions of other reviewers... and I think most everybody was dead-on right. This vacuum definitely has good sucking power. I think that a price you pay for this is the fact that the machine really wants to go... albeit it is not really 'that' difficult to handle. Weight wise, it is a little bit heavier than my previous vacuum (but realistically not that much more)... besides, with that weight you definitely get really good stability while vacuuming and utilizing the accessories.

The carpet/hard floor switch is an awesome shift when you need to do hard floors. I must admit, though, that this is not the best unit for getting edges. The accessories are easy to use. And most important, I've had absolutely no problems with the unit; someone wrote about a suction problem... they should probably check to ensure that they seated the canister properly.

Upright Vacuums Review The best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned or used!
Before I purchased this vacuum cleaner, I looked up several on Amazon.com and read the reviews. I was most impressed with the reviews and ratings for this one and also the 4885 which has a couple more bells and whistles but is apparently the same model, otherwise.

I tried to find the 4880 locally, and no one had ever heard of it! I was told it was an "old model," things like that. Actually, according to the Eureka WEBsite, it's quite a new model. Anyway, I decided to purchase from Amazon.com so I ordered, and it came in just a very few days, faster than promised.

Well, everything the other reviewers have said is absolutely true! The first time I vacuumed my house, I got three cupfuls of dirt and pet hair; I had to empty the dirt cup and rinse out the filters three times! I didn't know whether to cheer or throw up! By the way, the dirt cup is large and both the cup and the two filters that are removable are easy to get out of the machine, rinse out, and put back in. Be sure to use your spray attachment on your sink to get all the dirt out, and also let all the pieces dry COMPLETELY before you put them back into the machine.

The Hepa filter is the third filter. It's not removable/rinsable, and should be replaced about twice a year according to directions. Not much gets clear through to the Hepa filter, though, because the two other filters precede it.

Here's another tip. Run the cord up through the looped handle before you plug it in. That will hold the cord up and out of the way better than you can achieve with most other vacuum cleaners. I figured that out myself; it's not in the instructions. By the way, the instructions are clear, simple, and well illustrated.

As others have said, the machine is heavy, but the rollers seem to pull it forward though it is technically not self-propelled. It is smooth and quiet to use. It does not have edge-clean so you will either have to use the attachments for that purpose or use your handvac which is what I do.

This is a VERY satisfying product to use, quite fun, actually. I was suspicious about what my last vacuum cleaner was leaving in my carpet, and now I KNOW!

After reading the many previous reviews, I was sure this was the vacuum cleaner I wanted, and now that I have used it for a few days, I know I was absolutely right. If you have pets or a woodstove as we do, two dogs and a cat, plus bringing wood in through the house, this vacuum cleaner is one you should consider very seriously. My husband was annoyed with me for wanting to replace our old vac, but he is believer, now.

Amazon.com reviews of products really help keep the buyer from making bad purchase mistakes. It's a wonderful service. Thank you, Amazon.com!

Upright Vacuums Review Gets the dirt but filters cost a fortune.
This vacuum really picks up the dirt, but if I had known that it would cost me $60 a year for pre-motor filters, I wouldn't have bought it. I tried rinsing the filters in water as suggested, but it just made a muddy mess.

Upright Vacuums Review An excellent vacuum at a good price aon Amazon
After having looked around at local stores in the area and being disappointed in the available selection, I came to Amazon.com to see what was available. Perusing several reviews, I decided on a bagless vacuum to replace a dying Kirby, and found the Eureka 4880BT. I ordered a refurbished model (for $113), which was actually a slightly upgraded version of the 4880BT, the 4885BT, which comes with the dirt sensor. Anyhow, the vaccum performs like a pro. It's freaky seeing all the cat hair spinning around in the cannister (I have 2 cats, 1 a heavy shedder). The brush roller/agitator is very agressive, raising the nap on my carpet very nicely. It's relatively quiet; I can have a conversation with my fiancee while I'm vacuuming, which is nice. Or not, depending on your point of view :) I used to think having a headlight on a vacuum was silly, but having one with a light now, I realize it's helpful in dark corners. Eureka does recommend replacing the HEPA filter 2x a year, which is about $40 total. The pre-motor filter you can wash yourself, so no need to replace that on a regular basis. The only reason I gave it 4/5 stars was the lack of some more useful onboard tools. All you get is some extension tubes, a crevice device, and a small multi-purpose brush tool. You can order more tools from Eureka, or just go to your local vacccum shop. The tools are all standard 1 1/4 fitting, so that's a good thing at least.
As a side note, be aware of the fact that the dial to adjust the height of the vaccum (for different carpets) spins freely in the upright position and seemingly doesn't do anything to adjust the vacuum height - it's when you release the vacuum with the foot pedal that the height adjustment kicks in. I initially thought it was broken.

Upright Vacuums Review A well thought out machine with power to spare
We received our Eureka 4880BT and couldn't wait to try it out. After doing the living room and bedroom carpets, the amount of dog hair this machine sucked up, from what we thought were clean carpets, was nothing short of amazing. But even more, the fine dust and dirt particals this vacuum cleans up is fantastic.
If I were to have one complaint about the vacuum, it would have to be the switch for selecting either carpet or hard surfaces. It's kind of cheap in quality compared to the rest of the vacuum, as is the foot switch which unlocks the handle from the locked upright position.

My reccomendation is, if you're waivering between a bagless vacuum and one that needs bags, spend the extra dollars to go bagless. This machine sucks up such huge amounts, that going bagless will pay for its self in no time at all.

This is my first Eureka, being a former Hoover consumer, but all I can say is "Eureka" we made the right choice!

Upright Vacuums Review Good Vacuum - but awkward
I bought Eureka Boss Vacuum for use upstairs, which is fortunate because that area is all carpeted. This item has great suction. Carpet height adjustment is good. However in areas where you might have area rugs, orientals, etc, you wouldn't want to use it. It doesn't make the transistion easily to bare floors and back to carpet. You need a switch to turn off the beater bar up at the handle area. It is not good for stairs. The hose and nozzle attachments for stairs constricts the hose and you cannot reach but about 4 or 5 feet max. most flights of stairs require that you minimumly place the main unit on the landing and use the hose attachment for the stairs. The main unit is too big to fit on a regular step, and the hose is too short to reach from the landing. Mine took a tumble when I tried to balance it, because it is just too darn heavy to hold with one hand. (I am no weakling either!) But it really cleans those wall to wall carpets. Just so you know... a cannister is probably better for multiple surface / stairs cleaning.

Upright Vacuums Review At First Glance
I just bought and put together this vacuum. I can see where some people find it heavy to use, but it just about pushes itself forward, you only have to pull it back. I don't mind needing a screwdriver to change the belt, as it means that the thing won't come apart as easily. *Picks up cat hair like you wouldn't believe!* It even came with an extra bag and belt... I thought I had to put the belt on, but when I opened it up, there was already a belt on it. There was also a small turbo-style attachment which I am going to try on my area rug once I get it cleared off. Only problem I've had is that the drapery attachment doesn't like to stay put if the electrical cord is behind it.

Upright Vacuums Review One word - quiet
I have a great Royal vacuum but it is very loud. I also have a baby who is supersensitive to loud noises so I couldn't use it while she was awake without her screaming, and I couldn't use it while she was sleeping without waking her up (then screaming!). I was researching quiet vacuums and this one popped up in a review. I used it today and what a dream compared to before. She stayed in the room and although she stayed a good distance away, she didn't scream. It works great on the carpets and worked well on the kitchen floor too. I love that to use the hose is simply a matter of flipping a dial.
I would take off a half star though for the pedal you use to release the handle. It may be a glitch in mine but I really have to jiggle it to get the pedal down and the handle loose.
Overall though I am really pleased with it.

    Upright Vacuums Review Very Disappointed
I purchased this product last last september...
about a month afterwards it stopped working...
I hesitated because I felt I needed to return it but did not have the package it came in...instructions said do not return to place of purchase call this number....
This item has been in the repair shop more than I have been able to use it. They warranty repair people used it lost my on board tools and guess what they still have it now...I asked for a new one and no response from the warranty company or Eureka...I want my money back...this had been a very bad experience. I ended up purchasing another product a hover vacuum while I still wait for a phone call from the warranty repair shop telling me they have repaired my cleaner. I could not believe when I picked it up the first time after repair it was full of black dirt and all sorts of paper clips, staples and God only knows what else...they had been using it to clean their office...

Upright Vacuums Review Pretty good until the inevitable breakdown
I bought this vacuum a little less than a year ago, and it did the job. It picks up very well, and I liked the bagless style (not sure why they bother with a HEPA filter though--dumping the dirt from the canister would be a nightmare to people with allergies.) I did have problems with the lower hose getting blocked, but though it was a pain to clear it, I was still happy overall with this cleaner.

HOWEVER, it's completely broken in less than a year of average use (vacuuming twice a week). The end of the beater bar broke because some of the plasic part that held it deformed from overheating. My vacuum repair shop said they could fix it with new parts, but that it would just happen again. They also said they see Eureka vacuums all the time because they're not built to last. I wouldn't recommend this cleaner, and won't buy Eureka again because I can't afford a new vacuum cleaner every year. Do yourself a favor and find something more durable.

Upright Vacuums Review Eureka blew me away!
I bought this vacuum after lots of research into features and quality (I have a dog and need a good one) and I love it. It is very quiet and powerful and the attachments are great. When the power switch broke right after the warranty expired, I contacted Eureka to express my displeasure and suggest they reimburse my repair fee. Imagine my surprise when they FedExed me a new vacuum over night. In today's world of diminishing customer service, Eureka went above and beyond to prove they are interested in taking care of their customers!! This vacuum is a great product and they are willing to back it up.
