Upright Vacuums Review crap
Be smarter than me and save your money! Description of this vacuum sounds so great I went against my better judgement "if it is too good to be true..." Motor is loud and exhaust spread dust away from vacuum. If you have pets, you see those hairs running for corners. And Hepa filter can be washed only up to 3 times. It is very hard to clean filter, and it is dirty job. Hepa replacement cost 10 dollars--am I nuts to keep feeding bad product? I got rid of it. Eureka is part of the problem of environmental polution by creating this kind of throw aways. From what I read only commercial Eurekas are any good.

Upright Vacuums Review Great Vacuum for wood floors!
I just bought this at Target yesterday and used it today for the first time. I love that it is lightweight. I am 7 months pregnant and I am happy that I am not straining myself with my heavy vacuum I keep upstairs. I use this one for my wood floors in the downstairs part of my house. It cleaned up all the cat hair and dust and has great suction. I only gave it 4 stars because I wish the handle was a little longer, I am tall so it kind of makes me bend more and the cord can be a little longer. It is also very loud, but I don't mind because it does its job. All in all I like this a lot and the cheap price it is makes it even more worth it..

Upright Vacuums Review happy customer
I own a Hoover Savvy that is going into the shop for the third time in the eight months I have owned it. I bought this little Eureka to get me by while my Hoover is in the shop. What a great little vacuum! It is picking up all the dog hair the Hoover has left behind. If the Boss lite works this good I can only imagine what the full size will do!

Upright Vacuums Review Great Vacuum
I purchased A Hoover Foldaway two years ago. I was dissatisfied with it. However, I purchased this vacuum about a month ago, and I am extremely satsified with it. This one seems to have more power than my old one. I would recommend this vacuum to anyone who asked. I love the suction that this vacuum has!!!!!

    Upright Vacuums Review savvy sucks
This is by far the worst vacuum cleaner I have ever owned. First of all we have pets and the hair gets all tangled up in between the two rollers everytime I use it. Then I have to get scissors to cut it out. Also the bag for this vacuum is bigger than the canister it fits in. Therefore the bag fills very very fast. When you pull the bag out of the canister to throw it away there is plenty of room left in the bag. So the canister will only allow it to fill to its canister size. There goes $200. down the drain. I would not recommend this product to anyone!

    Upright Vacuums Review Costly repairs
I bought this vacuum cleaner as it was advertised as beltless.. This was really neat as long as the warranty lasted.. Two months after my warranty( 1 year) expired, the brushes stopped spinning. I took it in for repair.. and the bill :-
1)$70 for a gearbox ( the wonderful technology behind beltless)
    2)$40 for labor....
Total without taxes :- $110.. Isn't that wonderful!!!

So, in short, this is a great vacuum till it breaks down.

    Upright Vacuums Review Good vaccum
I have to say this is a pretty good vacuum, and I would watch out what reviews you read on this web-site. Some of them are good, but some of them are not about this particular vacuum. For instance there is one that says it doesn't have a dirt indicator light, and it does. There is one that says they have had it a year, but from what I understand it is a fairly new vacuum. Sears has only carried it for around a month, and consumer reports don't even have it listed yet. Here are some of the things that I have noticed, and I have had it about a month, but I vacuum every day.
    Cons:
There is a greasy residue on the compartments when you pull them out, but you can easily clean it off with a wet towel
You have to watch out that you don't let the filter when you are using the bagless canister that it isn't totally covered in between the two halves. If it gets totally covered, even if the canister doesn't have much in it, it will overheat.
When we tried to use the bag canister we found out that it wasn't sealed against the vacuum properly, but we took it back to the store and got a replacement.

    Pros:
It has great suction. We have a lot of pet hair because we have two inside Husky's (we live in Texas so its hot outside.) and a cat. It gets up a ton of hair. We vacuum every day and you would not believe how much it picks up. Our old vacuum didn't get up near that much. You have to make sure to keep the filter clean though so the suction stays constant.
The attachments are easily accessible and they clean our furniture wonderfully.
It has an indicator to tell you when the carpet is clean. (This really helps if you every have your husband help you vacuum! That way he knows it's clean!)
My husband and I both have bad allergies and it filters a lot of stuff out with the filters.

I would recommend this vacuum to anyone that doesn't want to spend a ton of money for a really expensive vacuum, and not just a cheap vacuum. This is a good middle type vacuum, and a great buy for the features, and the performance.

Upright Vacuums Review Great vacuum. Cleans like crazy.
    Pros:
Easy to use. Very adaptable system. Tools and manual cleaning system are at your fingertips. Very long power cord and attachment hose. Incredible suction. Emptying the bin is trivial, and essentially a clean process. Contrary to competitor claims, Dyson vacs do *not* spew dust into the house. In fact, the lifetime filter is user cleanable making the whole unit basically cost free--again, a trivially simple process.

    Cons:

This thing sucks so hard that it's difficult to push on deep pile carpet. I called Dyson about this and they had me remove two very thin seals from the beater-bar head. The result completely fixed the issue. There was no apparent loss of cleaning capability. The power cord is exceptionally long. Unfortunately, it does not automagically retract. The long cord can get in ones way, however one does not have to move it from plug to plug as much. Yes, it's plastic. But other reviews have indicated reliability and good support from Dyson.

Both my wife and I find the Dyson to be an excellent purchase. We've had lots of problems with vacuums because of three dogs and long haired humans. This machine does a much better job of things and is much easier to use.

Worth the money? Time will tell. The reason why we selected Dyson is because of all the good reviews all over the Net. So far, it has exceeded our expectations.

    Upright Vacuums Review Great Vacuum
I purchased a reconditioned DC-14 low reach Dyson about a month ago for my wife. It arrived the same day as our new carpet was being installed, what planning!!. I have never written a review on any other item that I have purchased as I have always believed you do your research and buy accordingly. I can truly say that this vacuum has exceeded my expectations. I know they are not inexpensive but with this machine we got our money's worth. The service from Amazon was just great and our vacumm arrived about a week early.

Upright Vacuums Review Very Satisfied Dyson owner
I have now owned this vacuum for one year. I waited this long to review to test the reliability of this very pricey machine...

It has stood up to the one year test and is still performing wonderfully. First tip would be to wait for a sale (I purchased through Amazon at an amazing low price, with free shipping as an added bonus!)

We have a brand new house, a small child and a houseful of cats, long and short haired. I knew I needed a good vacuum. This Dyson does everything it says it does. The house smells fresher and cleaner once I'm done. Of course it does, look what came out of the carpet!

I wanted to address the hardwood floor comment...half of my downstairs flooring is hardwood, and I have had no problem. I turn off the beater bar most times, but others I don't. Either way it works fine...picks up everything, almost before I get to it, the suction is so good.
Another comment - on rugs...again, turn off the beater bar....the suction is so good that it gets all of the cat hair & dirt out of the rug.

The hose is also another reason I purchased this machine, it stays out of the way until you're ready for it, and then it is plenty long, it stretches all the way to the top of the staircase...13 steps.

Another tip, empty the canister when the dirt inside stops spinning...I learned this after waiting too long and then it is a little tougher to empty.

Also clean the beater bar once every so often, mine gets tangled with hair, fur, etc....and decreases performance a bit. (This probably goes for most vacuums!)

I will say that I have not once used the low reach tool, so another model w/out this feature would probably do fine.

No bags and filters to buy! Easy to clean!

I highly recommend this vacuum, especially if you can get that low price!

    Upright Vacuums Review Disappointed
Their claim is that the Dyson doesn't lose suction with use. If kept in top condition, clean and emptied then it might not lose suction. But if you allow the canister to fill up or the filter to get dirty then it definitely looses suction.

The beater brushes were never really effective. I have thick plush carpet, all one length, and I never got vacuum tracks with this vacuum. So I knew it wasn't really beating the carpet very effectively. They claim the height is auto adjusting but it doesn't seem to adjust at all and therefore is only effective on certain carpet heights.

The wand wore out early due to design errors. The hard part of the wand tube rubs against the flexible hose causing it to wear early and break. Each of the attachments broke early too.

I got about a years use out of this vacuum and threw it away. I bought a Bissell lift off upright to replace and it is already 100% better than the Dyson. In the first vacuuming with the Bissell I filled the dirt canister with dust and dog hair from my first floor alone, which shows the Dyson had been missing it all along. I now get vacuum tracks with the Bissell and my carpet looks 100% better

Upright Vacuums Review Good Machine - but some weaknesses
We bought the Dyson in Dec. of 2002, and it gets used for approximately 1 hour x twice a week on carpet.

In the vacuum cleaner market which, in our opinion, is dominated by poor product design, plastic parts that break easily, motors that burn out, belts that stretch and break, expensive bags that fill up virtually instantly, and a very short useful life, our Dyson has acquitted itself rather well.

Many of the other favorable comments apply and will not be repeated here.

We would add that Dyson has good telephone customer service as well as an on-line diagnostic guide.

    We note the following negatives:

    - The "off the floor" hose suction is not as strong and is much more awkward than with a "tank type - non upright" cleaner. If you are doing mostly off the floor cleaning, probably no upright is recommended.

    - While the parts that you can access are easy to remove for cleaning and "unclogging", there are some critical non user serviceable parts on the Dyson. Even the drive belt and hepa filters are supposed to be changed by a service center.

    - There are very few designated service centers capable of fixing the Dyson. So keep the box in case you have to ship the machine back to the company and hope you never need to use it. I would guess that with parts and labor, a major repair could easily be between a quarter and half the price of a new machine.

    - The hepa filter, which is supposed to last the lifetime of the machine, doesn't. But notwithstanding instructions, it can be removed and replaced by the user (special replacement filter must be purchased from the company or from a dealer). We found it necessary to replace the filter (ourselves) when the machine constantly cut off due to overheating.

    - While it is NOT in the instructions, customer service will tell you that vacuuming up powder (plaster, carpet cleaner, carpet deodorant) will clog the hepa filter and eventually destroy the machine. If you plan to do this kind of work, get something with a disposable bag.

    - Periodically, the regular filter and basket need to be washed. Not a big deal but it needs to be done.

    - Periodically, the tank needs to be thoroughly washed by running water through it and letting it dry.

Notwithstanding the above, this is probably a better and more reliable machine than anything else available (which, as noted, says something about vacuum cleaners in general), so with reservations, we recommend it.

Upright Vacuums Review Vacum cleaner that does the job
Product designed to meet user needs and convinience.Does outstanding job on the carpet and hardwood floors, but can't reach under limited hight spaces without taking the house out.Best product i ever have to vacuum hardwood stairs.Looks and works like new.

Upright Vacuums Review Worth the money!
We got rid of our Kirby one day before purchasing the Dirt Devil Outlast. Not only is this one quieter than the Kirby, it picked up more than a cup of dust on our carpet (approx. 1,200 sq ft worth) that the Kirby left behind. Having the hose attachments stored right there on the machine makes them easy to find, too! Very impressive for the price.
