This is just a large size sticky roller, like the one you use to get lint off of clothes. It is very useful in some places, and gets more things off the tile floor than you ever thought were there, even after the floor has been swabed. I do not know how it wouold do on a carpet, perhaps not as good as a vacuum. My dog gets on my bed during the days, and it takes the hair off the sheets in seconds.
On a tile floor one must "pre swipe" it over a rug or bed, because the adhesive is so good that it sticks to the floor and has to be scraped off (Ungh!) The roller is held by a press apart plastic U shape holder which is very fragile and easily broken. The refills are a bit expensive for throwaways, but I think it is workth it.

While this is a very neat gadget, it is not an appropriate gift to give your wife/girlfriend on her birthday. Better options would include sterling silver earings, automatic meat thermometer, or a gift card from a nearby department store or Amazon (Check out the wish list section).

On the positive side, if you don't push the tube down completely, the electro-shock doesn't engage & you can practice catch & release on the bugs. However, the guys and children seem to enjoy "zapping" the little critters.

If you read your manual, it recommends replacing this every year. We had our vacuum for two years before replacing this. Now the vacuum works back up to original specs-you can't smell dust any more, and it sucks harder.

You probably want to replace the pleated filter after a year or two also, no matter how good you are at cleaning it.
